    Hey everyone. I'm am glad you all are enjoying the story so far. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask (however, I can't give away spoilers just yet, sorry). I will admit that I think this story is my finest work so far, and I'm confident that you will love the epic saga of Onyxia. As always, a big shout out to AllThingsDnD for making this narration possible. :)

      Since I don't have much experience with long DnD Campaigns yet (mostly one shots to try it out, still looking for a group that accepts beginners) how does all this downtime works? Is the whole group sitting around the table and you play your Downtime with the DM while the others are listening and when you're done, it's the next group members turn, or how does that work? And if so: how did the other players react to witnessing that story first hand?

      @Sinlesssoul-- masterful piece of character development so far for Onyxia. Without giving anything away, did she "Turn out" the way you hoped she would?

    • @sinlesssoul
      @sinlesssoul 4 ปีที่แล้ว +39

      @@lymboxx Downtime really depends on what your players are wanting to do. For this campaign, our DM gave the entire party a lot of solo-sessions for our individual businesses, but we also occasionally got together to help each other out as needed. When it came time to adventure again, our DM quickly summed up everything we accomplished during the downtime, and carefully weaved it into the story. There were also a few occasions where the DM just went around the table and asked each player what they would do during their downtime, and while that player interacted with the DM, the rest of us either listened or took a break to eat and such.

      Especially a chromatic (or a metalic if you're in an evil campaign). But a lot of that can also depend on how the DM handles alignment. If a DM implements inherent alignment as something set-in-stone, it's an exercise in futility. If they ignore inherent alignment altogether, it's not nearly as difficult. But it gets most interesting when inherent alignment is primarily observed as simply natural tendencies.

    Notes from a NG human idiot;
    Greetings from Lovely Restenford!
    A Foreign Noblewoman named Jane D.Hull ounce said "At the end of the day, the most overwhelming key to a child's success is the positive involvement of the Parents." i like how wholesome this story is so far, what with OP teaching Onixia the differences between right/wrong, Good/Evil and Actions/Consequences. I remember reading somewhere in 3.5e D&D that, if raised differently, dragons of all types would develop an alignment based on what their taught instead of their natures. So i wish Mike the best of luck with little Onixia. As always....
    May your pantheon ever favor you

    My lvl 14 cavalier is a master of animals. He trained all the wild horses and dogs in our kingdom during some downtime. Now they are all combat trained with riders they see as their master. He is also courting a Great Red wyrm in human form who finds him both comely and interesting...for now. This video gave me a new plan for General Kyras Equitas's retirement (he is borderline on venerable age category, which the red dragon magically keeps from affecting his... physicality.)

We joke that my horse companion is the real character, cause when I started the build, I just wanted to make a decent, mounted general type. But by now, my Horse, Fulgar, can move 800 ft per turn for 10 minutes a day, has a 6-7 intelligence, magic barding, several wonderous items, perma magic fang and acid maw. His shoes are magical weapons and either silver or adamantine for purposes of damage reduction...it's stupid how much my actual character just buffs the horse and party members...then just charges or plinks until he finds someone to challenge and go ham on. His secondary build is around sundering. Adamantine Lance, improved...all that jazz. Counter point! Black Dragons are infamous for their disdain for the lives of others. Including their own children. It's common for them to flat out abandon their eggs after laying. Although a Black Dragons lair is usually in a swamp and the eggs have to be submerged in acid during their growth which provides a natural defense for that alone. The fact this one had taken it's own lair elsewhere is unusual, especially since it had active traps since the dragon alone is often enough of a deterrent. But I chock that up to DM fiat. But the rest of the eggs had already been destroyed when they arrived. I would not be surprised if the mother was the one who crushed them, deciding she would not tolerate challengers in her territory. Not even her own kin.

    aw I loved this! I love dragons and I'm trying to write a good dragon story involving my own dragon spices right now and haven't settled on a setting but I like fantasy video game worlds. Still I did love trying to play with this angle or even something similar. Always entertaining or thought provoking. I hope in ends well for the both of you. At one point I was working on a redemption story that was world jumping at the same time. It would take place over thousands and thousands of years but the story would look at the before and after the redemption and what it actually takes for people to come around. It was a tyrant queen of dragons that had been attacked by everyone and never knew love growing up. It was interesting but I don't think I would ever be able to do it justice. Tried to play with my brother a bit with her but he didn't get her enough to play well, as good of a DM as he is. Other wise never played her. Usually its a duality of a human and a dragon stuck in the same body but the human is usually the one in charge with the ability to morph and use the powers from the worlds and creatures they visit, magic too. Drain spells are very painful and can lead to death or instability that then leads to death. Like I said interesting. They are so powerful that most things try to attack them or run from them when they sense there magic undampened.

    Well now I need more of this. And, I hope I am not the only one that thinks that calling her "Onixya" is just a way to jinx the end.

    This is a very cool story so far, I only know one other D&D session that has a PC rising a dragon and that is the unexpectables one.

      At least Task has Zotira to help out... and he had a bit of a head start in getting Tarusk's trust.

    As a father, this story touched a special place.
    As a gamer, I would have had to build another character as my character would have decided to retire from adventuring as soon as the Onyxia asked what being a daughter ment.
