As soon as you can during this process of shaping the stem, wrap the whole thing using very thin florist tape, cover it again with the tape, and you will shape this stem the way you want to. Have done it many times... Love your tutorials!!

I made my paper clay mixture using your recipe. Your recipe is great. I had already made my pumpkin out of paper mache. I made the mistake of not buying a mixer to mix my paper pulp. Just as you had said it is lumpier without mixing. I still like the way my little lumpy pumpkin turned out, but when I make my next batch I will mix it with a mixer to make my clay smoother..

I have tried out for first time and my pumpkin just collapsed. Does it mean that not enough of paper mache and seal it with glue before the final paper mache mix?
Hello Holly... Did it collapse when you were adding paper clay? Or did it collapse as you were taking the stuffing out? If it collapsed while putting clay on it, part of it was because you needed more layers of mache first. For my self I don't unstuff the pumpkin untill I have all the clay work done and it's completely dry, then I take out the stuffing.. If It collapsed without clay on it and as you were taking out the stuffing then for sure you needed more layers. I hope this helps a little. If it doesn't I'm more that happy to discuss it further
A lot of the time I just layer it up all at once, depends on how much i'm trying to rush a project. But even when I put it all on at once, after it drys i'll check it to see how strong it is, if it feels a little week i will go ahead and apply more layers

You can also use a thin wire for the stem. Just wrap the newspaper around it.

Seems to me it would be easier to use some craft wire, wrapped in paper to get your bends on the stem. Great video, thanks for sharing.

so for the stem, I think that using a couple of pipe cleaner wires inside the stem to bend it into the curvey shape you want, what do you think?

Great tutorial and thank you! :) quick question, do you wait to dry between strip maché layer or apply all 3 in one go and then let dry? Thank you.
