Abstract:
The talk will focus on Rammohun Roy’s perception of institutional differences between indigenous and European pedagogical approaches towards education. It will use Roy’s own writings to point to his socio-cultural and intellectual location within the colonial context, and his conviction of relevant knowledge systems for the Indians which would enable them to join the modern world outside of India’s boundaries.
