Mrs Mangel was one of the handful of characters that made Neighbours in the 80s. That brief scene with Madge where they hug and recognise (and love) each other's differences was what made the show stand out from the crowd. A small, but absolutely momentous moment, never forgotten.
Yeah she was a loveable old battleaxe. Mrs Mangel and Madge had some battles including the times they refused to call each other by their new married names. When Madge married Harold, Nell addressed Madge as Ramsey (her maidwn name when she drppped Mitchell following her divorce from.Fred) and when Nell married John Madge addressed her and Mangel.
It's a testament to the late Vivien Grey as an actress as to how good she was as Mrs Mangel. Loved Mrs Mangel. The days when Neighbours was at its best. Great storylines great actors and actually actors playing characters the same age and not 21 year olds playing 16 or 17 year olds like in soaps today.
So many of the iconic stars in this clip. I would run home from college to catch this show from 1897 to the early 90s. Brings back wonderful memories of being young and Ramsey Street 💙

This was Neighbours at it's best. The late 80's/early 90's, when we all started getting into it. The characters like Mrs Mangle were so strong even though we hated her here in the UK haha. She was certainly unique from one extreme to another here. Never in the center as she'd bounce back and forth and she really prized Bouncer her dog as well, maybe more than anyone else. It's so weird watching a neighborhood seeing some one off that they may not of always liked but she indeed was the most memorable as well. I wonder what she was like in real life?!
