    It’s amazing how the weather changes. I love it when the sun makes an appearance before it sets.

    🙋‍♂️You made me grin in this one as I do watch every episode of your 📺 show! I have spent ages linking all of my water butts up at their base - so they fill and empty in balance - but getting a good seal given the water pressure is really tricky and often needs a few goes to get the sealant application perfect. Terry King does a magnificent job on his allotment plot YT channel linking his barrels with hoses at the top, using coiled wire to protect the hose from kinks. All his barrels siphon one into the other, keeping them all balanced rather than relying on overflow. I’ve probably spent more time on water capture and management here at McTavish Manor than on any other project. Well, maybe apart from the Greenhouse build.

      But there is no pressure only atmospheric XX Just need tank connectors tightened appropriately and hey presto water tight xx

      I have all my water butts linked up about 3 inches down from the top of each one, and there hasn't been a problem with leakage or any drips, just make sure all your connections have a rubber washer around them and tightened up.
      Stay Safe,

    Hubby installed 3 connected IBCs beside our house and they collect roof water. We use the water for everything inside the house except cooking and teeth cleaning ....for which we have one mains tap in the kitchen. We often run the IBCs dry. Not just at the moment though, as you can imagine. Happy Days with water play.

    Howdy-ho Malc!👋 I'm always getting good ideas from you. I gather rain off the roof of our house...the one barrel always over flows losing so much great rain water. I will be making a chain of barrels like you and your plot mate.😃 So easy to do.
    I'm glad to see things are still coming together well with your downsizing! 😃Good times!👍

    Hey Malcolm. If you're looking to use the barrels for your polytunnel it might be worth looking into the guttering water wick system. Terry King (a fellow allotmenteer on TH-cam) uses it and he's done it for very little cost by reusing discarded things. It makes less work humping watering cans around the allotment. Worth checking his channel out.

  • @barryroberts6470
    @barryroberts6470 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Hi Malc, i'm trying to imagine in my head this IBC and Barrel solution of yours and what i think would work is this, on your new Shed put some guttering on one side leading into one of the IBCs which then overflows into the other IBC via the Blue Water Pipe, then more Blue Water Pipe leading into your first Barrel then into the second the same way and so on. As TuftyMcTavish said below, Terry King has a Playlist about his Barrels and how they are hooked up etc on his channel that should give you some ideas as well.
    Stay Safe,

    Hi Malcolm ..I hope you've both had a good Christmas and best wishes for the new year...you wouldn't catch me out in the garden in our welsh rain no matter what !. Going back to your "camera fail " video and your black Bean I've only just learnt from real seeds that runner beans easily cross polinate even from neighbouring plots !..I've not bothered reading the advice they give about saving runner bean seeds over the years as I always thought it to be so simple ..perhaps you've got a cross pollinated bean

Elephant and normal garlic up and all my onion sets and 8 shallots. Chard has rotted and some of my purple sprouting broccoli have been hit. But we had -8 or 9 for 15 days on trot then snow. Just connected my butts up last week but i connected them at the bottom so they'll fill equally and you only need one tap, I have an open top butt to use as a dip butt and that is fed from the over flow from the others connected at the top !!
    I hope that makes sense ???
    Might be worth thinking about x

    Apparently we use SYPHONS to go between our 3 IBCs, to avoid stale water. We DON'T connect them together low down. Drilling plastic leads to cracks. After 50 years of marriage, you would think I should have learned not to speak on husband's behalf. I get it half wrong. Please ignore my previously WIFELY comment on Mr W's behalf.🤔
