I don't hate the 2 point for the first free throw idea but I think a better idea is make the 2nd worth 2 if you make the first or alternatively you get a third if you make both. That way it eliminates the reason most teams are fouling now and that's to stop the other team attempting a 3 because if you hit both FTs then you get the 3 points. Puts an extra emphasis on good foul shooting, which should be rewarded, really kills the incentive to foul for both teams and forces them to actually play defense (I know, a foreign idea in the modern game). It also doesn't end the chaos and fun of the intentional missed FT if you do miss the first. Also think you could make any intentional foul or non-ball play a technical or even a take foul so the team keeps the ball. Could definitely give any team down less than 5 with a minute to play one foul as the rules are now just because it is a tactic to close the gap but any more than that is too much. I also think that teams should only get one timeout in the last 5 minutes of the game, give them another "advance the ball" as well, because the timeouts are just as bad as the fouling.

The player can shoot a 3 for 3, make 2 of 2, or 1 of 1 and a make gets the ball back and team gets to run OB play and try to get a bucket.
Warriors best hope is getting something out of Kuminga. Trading Wiggins + Pieces for Jimmy is a lateral move, or possibly a downgrade. Their best options are what they have or trades on the margins.
Agreed. Trading for a superstar would gut too much of their depth. I think they could do the Brooklyn trade in a way where they add without subtracting, thanks to the Melton contract. Bill is being generous in his assessment of their title window being 3 more years. I honestly think is probably the last decent year for them to make a run.
Regarding the free throws, do you think the 1-and-1 system that colleges use would be interesting in the NBA? I feel it could make games more entertaining:) Side question: What about the European rule of being able to swat the ball after hitting the rim?!
1 and 1 system would definitely be fun but with nba Ft shooters, it wouldn’t really change anything about the issue. If you’re down 3 with the ball in today’s nba, you are going to be intentionally fouled so that you cannot attempt a 3pt shot. Changing it to 1 and 1 does not change that, in fact it would probably just encourage more fouling my teams up 3 since there’s a chance they miss the first and that would be it.
2 pts for the 1st FT for any foul in the last minute is too gimmicky/out there and would have a huge effect on tons of games beyond the situation you're trying to correct, which is when teams ahead 3 pts in the final minute intentionally foul to prevent a 3 pt shot. The point should be to incentivize teams to play out that situation; but you don't want it affecting tie or 1- and 2-pt games where tough D could result in a foul you don't intend. I would put a limit on the number of fouls you're allowed in the last 60 or 90 seconds, maybe 1 or 2 fouls, for which play occurs the same as always, so those tight games aren't affected, after which the team that's fouled can choose either their ordinary 2 FTs or they can choose 1 FT + the ball back. So if you're up 3 there's no way you're going to keep fouling as the FT could put you up 2 and then you could end up not only tied but down 1 if they hit a 3 pt shot.
Wouldn't the Hawks be closer than the Pistons as next year's potential young contender team? Around .500 this year, rising young star, other interesting pieces. Detroit seems another year away
10:58 I like Bill's idea, but why not just give one additional free throw if it's less than 2 minutes to go? Also, I'd like to see a player taking free throws from the restricted area line if the foul occurred within the restricted area. This will take away the so called "good hard fouls" that often lead to injuries and scuffles and improve the flow of the game as well.
Because watching free throws kinda suck. If you ever watch with a casual fan, you will realize they immediately pull out their phone and start scrolling when shooters shoot free throws. More free throws aren't the way to go even if it punishes intentional fouling.
@@jackeggleston3980 so, when the clock is running out, intentionally fouling the opposition results 3 free throws can widen the gap form 2 or 3 points to 5 or 6 with just 1 foul. This should deter a team from doing it, hence fewer free throws.
The trade Bill would be Butler for Wiggins, Kuminga, Melton and Santos. It works in trade machine. Picks definitely don't get included here. If you're the Warriors it's definitely fine since you don't give up picks plus if you are gonna retain Curry and Green anyways, you're shooting yourself in the foot not making a deal. If they don't do something like this this season then you've already said your fair wells to Curry and Green. It'd just be a matter of time until they decide to retire, which would just leave the Warriors in purgatory until their HoFers retire. Warriors fans likely don't enjoy the trade but Butler is definitely better than Wiggins and while you lose a younger asset in Kuminga, you'd likely get rid of him anyways at some point during a rebuild for additional assets, whatever he could get them. Ring chasing for at least 3 more years is a bit more interesting for the Warriors than being in purgatory and maybe being a year ahead in a rebuild after selling off Kuminga, which would be a guarantee to happen. Heat all of a sudden look a lot different. Melton is just going to expire, along with Robinson, Richardson, Burks and Bryant. This clears up $45 million and leaves the Heat tax free but only for a moment before re-signing Kuminga to a deal. Herro, Kuminga and Adebayo as your core leaders is an interesting trio, at least a lot better of a fit age-wise. They'll still have Wiggins, Highsmith, Rozier, Jaquez, Larrson, Love and Jovic as well as Ware/Santos who could see some time next season. They'd need to find another guard, possibly bring back Melton on a vet minimum. Wouldn't be shocked if the Heat this offseason try and off Rozier to another team. He'd be expiring and he really doesn't fit this group as they'll need a taller guard that has some good off ball tendencies on offense. Of course if Melton didn't get injured he'd be that guy, but alas. Maybe that type of trade could happen this year with Toronto in a Rozier plus a protected pick for Brown's expiring to give the Heat more cap relief in the offseason.
I don’t understand how people say they love the game of basketball but like the current situation of players staying with their own teams if they’re not happy when you want to see players move around?
Trae hasn’t played with another all star (any given season), yet we’re intimating that the ECF was a fluke and we will know if he’s any good if can win. Believe me if Trae played with AD, KD, Jalen Brown or a Kyrie caliber player, he would win 50+. I do hope to see that assist: turnover ratio go to 3:1, but 2:1 isn’t terrible.
The nba doesn’t feel any less relevant than it was last year, the year before, or the year before that lmao. Maybe, just maybe, it’s currently early into a long nba season and late in both football seasons 😂
The unavoidable loss of relevancy the NBA has suffered, especially domestically, is something that diehard NBA fans either are oblivious to, or are unwilling to admit. I’ve been an NBA guy literally since I was a kid in the mid 90s, and I’ve never been less intrigued or compelled about NBA basketball than I have been this year.
The problem is that your proposal still stops the clock, that's why losing teams do it. The leading team will just dribble the ball out, so the only thing the losing team can do is foul them really since these guys are too good at dribbling and passing. My proposal is to allow the team that got fouled to have a 10 second runoff. This way at least the game ends sooner. Will be bad for comebacks tho.
@deepvoicedude4749 it leaves possession with the team that got fouled tho.. the opposing team still needs to actually make a defensive play to get the ball back instead of relying on a gimmick that by current rules(if i remember correctly) , shouldn't be allowed to happen.. If a score is to the point where one team can run out the clock and it's only a couple minutes left, the losing team deserves that loss..
Trae will start shooting better, I think Zach and Daniels will as well. That’s when they’ll be really dangerous. I’ve watched or listened to all of their games, they haven’t peaked yet. They could actually be better if Capella can finish better and Trae gets back to his normal shooting.
The rewriting of the narrative that the Hawks was all luck to get to the Eastern finals is insanely stupid. Everyone picked the Knicks to win round 1. The Philly series, same thing. People forget the Hawks were up big until Trae got hurt in that series w/ the bucks. Or they would have had a nice lead in that series. Giannis obviously got hurt too later, so it is what it is but the "everything was a fluke" so Trae gets no credit for having his team in the eastern finals is insanely stupid.
I don’t think butler age-wise makes sense for Houston. I’m eyeing fox for next year. Didn’t resign with the kings. Can use Jalen’s new deal to trade for him and maybe some other bit and bobs. Gives use a perimeter legit scorer and kings can hit the rebuild button
JB's contract is a problem for any team that is a real contender. Frankly I think teams will shy away from him for fear he will exercise his option. I did think about the Kings because they are stuck in a placement rut but not sure if they they are prepared to give up on Keegan Murray (with Derozan) in some sort of deal. The Heat should ride it out and bite the bullet on the season hoping JB does opt out. They still can be an attractive destination ( Taxes, property protection, coach, weather , ) etc.. At this stage of his career and his contract I would go only be interested in JB if I was convinced he would accept the Scottie Pippen role and that his presence virtually guaranteed the team being in the finals.
If im Detroit im taking my lumps with my guys rn. Why add an expensive vet like ingram or lavine when you KNOW they dont impact winning. Now i like cam johnson there as a spark plug bench guy but hes not signing there if thats the role. He's a free agent and wants starter money.

Okay, that celtics game where they shot like 30 free throws in the last 2 minutes was so unwatchable it made me hate basketball a little cause I kept watching it, that has to end asap right now this season. Sad thing is that was a great game up until that started to happen. The only fix I see if intentional fouls 1 shot and the ball need to be called again. If you foul a person just by slapping his ass while he runs by you should be 1 shot and the ball. Also this needs to be called to allow post play in the NBA again, small guards just grabbing a big man cause the ball is passed to him is an intentional foul 1 shot and the ball.
mouse in the house rule right now is guard and if passed to foul grab whatever asap, that is not basketball that is the art of preventing basketball from happening. I want to get to see big men dunk the crapp out of the ball on the mouse in the house without a foul being called again.
right now in the NBA fouls are being used to prevent post play, if you start letting the officials call intentional fouls again you fix the post play issue and allow the end of the game to be a basketball game instead of 30 free throws in 2 minutes
The NBA has been negotiating their product into the ground. The load management rules have turned out to be counterproductive, the apron rules are making it harder for mid-tier contenders to rise up and the loss of Inside the NBA is just a tragedy.
Half of this is objectively wrong 😂 Inside the nba still exists, and will continue to exist next year. It’s as good as it’s ever been. Load management rules have not been counterproductive. Their load management rules pretty much are just that stars aren’t allowed to rest during primetime games. Other than that, load management is 100% accepted. That helps the product. Now the apron rules stink, but it is in no way preventing mid tier teams from rising up. The Knicks were mid tier last year, and they went all in with their current roster and look pretty good. Same with the mavs, who did it midseason last year. Cavs also went from mid to contender. Apron rules punish the good teams and the expensive teams, they don’t punish mid teams.
5 years ago, people complained that players change teams too much. Now people are whining that teams can't make trades? I feel like people are just jealous that the NBA is talked about so much so they just find a thing to whine about. Like how 20 years ago there wasn't enough scoring but by 2016 there was too much. Or how in 2018 there was no parity which is bad but now there are no superteams which is also bad? What do you guys want from the NBA because it seems like it changes every 5 years.
Keep Jimmy and build a good team around him Bring a center that can average at least 8 blocks per game and can average at least 12 points if more even better
Fr he sure plays way better defense effort wise than PLENTY of other great players in the league..example Luka, Lebron, Brunson, Vanvleet, Lamelo, Klay, etc..just more hustle getting in between passing lanes being pesky and generating steals and so forth this misconception of totally trash defense has got to stop

So if you're up 3 there's no way you're going to keep fouling as the FT could put you up 2 and then you could end up not only tied but down 1 if they hit a 3 pt shot.
Plus it would have an effect gambling player props, ikno ikno it's not about catering to sports books but they would object
Wouldn't the Hawks be closer than the Pistons as next year's potential young contender team? Around .500 this year, rising young star, other interesting pieces. Detroit seems another year away
That's what I was thinking 🤔
Heat should trade jimmy for Bill straight up
Even that would be a win for heat
As a Knicks fan I'm with Bill. The Knicks looked beaten against the Hawks.
Cause then you’re spending an additional 30 secs watching a third free throw
Because watching free throws kinda suck. If you ever watch with a casual fan, you will realize they immediately pull out their phone and start scrolling when shooters shoot free throws. More free throws aren't the way to go even if it punishes intentional fouling.
@@jackeggleston3980 so, when the clock is running out, intentionally fouling the opposition results 3 free throws can widen the gap form 2 or 3 points to 5 or 6 with just 1 foul. This should deter a team from doing it, hence fewer free throws.
The hawks need a center ... Ayton would be the move
Absolutely not
Solid six pack
That is a good trade idea. And i saw fvv in high school
Bill how you don't understand the Elam ending literally every pickup game around the world ends in that lol
Take a page out of NFL and fouls under one minute result in a 5-10 sec runoff unless the team elects to use a TO
timestamps!
As a Bulls fan, I want Jimmy back. We never should have traded him in the first damn place........
Because teams would pay out a max deal, and then the player demands a trade a year in, which is frustrating for the fan base and the team.
Hard to give Trae credit after you have said so much bs that never added up 😅
It is unfortunate that Trae has been hurt this season.
I definitely want players getting more points; I keep saying, offense is too hard in today's NBA, it's getting ridiculous.
The NBA talent to popularity scale is out of whack. The players are extremely talented, but The NBA has taken a severe hit as far as relevance
If you assume the TV views are the end all be all sure but if you account for literally any other metric to consume the NBA it's never been better
The nba doesn’t feel any less relevant than it was last year, the year before, or the year before that lmao. Maybe, just maybe, it’s currently early into a long nba season and late in both football seasons 😂
Someone is slurping NFL propaganda.
People don't watch the games on TV. Simple as. But the NBA has to focus on TV because they sell these huge contracts.
Love the rockets trade
Rockets trading for Jimmy would be the biggest mistake of all time
Any foul that's not a play on the ball should be a tech, so if you intentionally foul they get a free throw and the ball
Final four minutes the points should be awarded to the team that's fouled and they should keep the ball
Why? So if you’re down 2 with no shot clock and the other team has the ball the game is just over? That’s dumb lmao
@@eliyarrows2456 So steal or trap. Or fail. Just force play rather than the automatic foul shots.
Trae will start shooting better, I think Zach and Daniels will as well. That’s when they’ll be really dangerous. I’ve watched or listened to all of their games, they haven’t peaked yet. They could actually be better if Capella can finish better and Trae gets back to his normal shooting.
Your prospective Butler trade smells like Heat hate. The Heat don’t want Van Fleet.
Hello William!
Best nba mind on TH-cam
I don’t think butler age-wise makes sense for Houston. I’m eyeing fox for next year. Didn’t resign with the kings. Can use Jalen’s new deal to trade for him and maybe some other bit and bobs. Gives use a perimeter legit scorer and kings can hit the rebuild button
JB's contract is a problem for any team that is a real contender. Frankly I think teams will shy away from him for fear he will exercise his option. I did think about the Kings because they are stuck in a placement rut but not sure if they they are prepared to give up on Keegan Murray
(with Derozan) in some sort of deal.
Bill use to mock Mike and mike for their "how to fix baseball" segments which he now does weekly for the NBA lol
Jimmy should go to Denver for my sake but Houston is the right trade probably
Sochan should be 6th man off the bench. Spurs best lineups is with 4 shooters around Wemby
The free throw end of game take was idiotic. Just do the elam ending.
For the love of god, PLEASE make the rule 1 shot for 2 points. SPEEED UP the end of the game. Period
Don't wanna trade Wiggins
The 50 club seems awfully era specific
If im Detroit im taking my lumps with my guys rn. Why add an expensive vet like ingram or lavine when you KNOW they dont impact winning. Now i like cam johnson there as a spark plug bench guy but hes not signing there if thats the role. He's a free agent and wants starter money.
here's who's in the 50 club since the merger: *proceeds to name a number of examples pre-merger
lol good ole Bill
Can you drink the beer or open it?
Dude. Stop suggesting that the rockets trade for jimmy butler. Please. In what world does that make sense? 35 years old Bill! Jimmy at least has an awesome track record with young players oh wait no he’s a locker room cancer WHO IS MORE THAN A DECADE OLDER THAN EVERY IMPORTANT PLAYER ON OUR TEAM BILL. You have no feel for this team and it’s super weird. You suggested we trade AMEN THOMPSON for butler a few weeks ago. You should be in the bad takes penalty box till 2026 for that one.
how did you say kareem is the highest ever? did i miss something?? wilt had 50.4pts, 25.7 rebounds, 2.4 assists in the 1961-1962 szn… that’s 78.5 pra
He said since the Wilt/Russell era
His a real heat hater 😂
His 😂
Hates the Lakers even more
Moody can't be traded this year
Okay, that celtics game where they shot like 30 free throws in the last 2 minutes was so unwatchable it made me hate basketball a little cause I kept watching it, that has to end asap right now this season.
The onlg 2 teams i can see maybe trading for Butler are Lakers and Heat. No upcoming teams want a 35 year old who wants a new max contract
The NBA has been negotiating their product into the ground. The load management rules have turned out to be counterproductive, the apron rules are making it harder for mid-tier contenders to rise up and the loss of Inside the NBA is just a tragedy.
Half of this is objectively wrong 😂
Inside the nba still exists, and will continue to exist next year.
Keep Jimmy and build a good team around him
Bring a center that can average at least 8 blocks per game and can average at least 12 points if more even better
Lol I don't think Shawn Bradley & will combined averaged 8 blocks a game
NBA needs to let the team's lower spend the luxury tax apron or 3 Melton Kyle looney a pick or 2 for Jimbo
Irrationally confident lol poor ole Trae…. I’ve liked his effort on defense over the past few seasons, maybe not result but effort.
"brooklyn's going to have to start sabotaging their own team"
Is Shams a reliable source? All I’ve heard since his signing to ESPN is people either saying his reports could never happen, or they are false. Is Shams a sham?
He’s teams’ and agents’ #1 story plant. Low key an important role because he leaks all their thinking to us, but also means most of what he puts out there ends up being garbage!
He's like schefter: he's a pro league/team source guy only.
So whenever you read a story from him, just know it comes from the teams perspective.
why not just treat the take fouls like they do clear path, one free throw and the ball
Why would anybody in the NBA want to give Pat Riley an easy way out? Hasn't he burned every bridge by now? Miami and Butler deserve each other.
Charlotte or hawks next year lookout
Warriors are done. Reminds me of those Celtics teams that got old after 1987 finals
Hawk needs to get another shooter.
houston is not interested in jimmy butler (or KD, for that matter). rumblings are they don't want anyone in his mid-30's or beyond
I wanted to listen but the ultra bottle activated my squirrel brain. Why put it front and center. Just as effective in the background. Why just one bottle. How about crack it open and sip. Hell just go full on Garth with the Reebok sponsorship from Wayne’s world.
Why would the Nets give up Cam Johnson for Wiggins? Rebounding teams like to get younger, not older Bill .
Draft picks and tanking. You take Wiggins’ bad contract along with probably 2 first round picks, and you get worse as a team. That’s called tanking.
Warriors have a coaching problem, maybe call it a defensive IQ problem, but it's definitely not a talent problem that Jimmy can solve.
Wasn't Kerr on board w/ stack house coaching the D ?
How ‘bout a mothereffin’ beer bruh
GSW should take Jamal Murray
Jokic only shooting 82% from the line?! What a scrub!!! 🤣🤣🤣
I wonder who he is sponsored by
How about, in the last 2 minutes, the team that gets fouled has the opportunity to take a 3 second run-off ?
Bit of a stretch calling Detroit "east coast".
Thanks for everything BS!!!
If a team is not in the act of shooting and they are intentionally fouled, they get the shots and the ball. Done.
