- The Malaysia Airlines (MAS) Kebaya is arguably the most recognizable Malaysian Kebaya locally and internationally. However, very few know the story behind the iconic Kebaya. LOCCO met with Mr. Chang Chin Kwang, a former MAS flight attendant of 32 years, to talk about the history and evolution of the MAS Kebaya. Enjoy this mini LOCCO documentary!
Kebaya Malaysia Airlines (MAS) adalah antara Kebaya yang paling dikenali di Malaysia dan juga di dunia. Walaupun begitu, tak ramai yang tahu kisah sebalik Kebaya ikonic ini. LOCCO telah berjumpa bersama Encik Chang Chin Kwang, seorang bekas pramugara MAS yang telah berkhidmat selama 32 tahun untuk berdialog tentang sejarah dan evolusi Kebaya MAS.

My late father use to wear the gold brown uniform. He serve for Mas 1974 till 1987

As an East Malaysian, I am pleasantly surprised that the Kebaya cleverly celebrated cultures from both east and west Malaysia. Great video! I really appreciate know the story of the humble Kebaya.

Extreemism?as in the video MAS should now evolve further by adopting Royal Brunei Airlines (RBA) model where those who wish to wear the Hijab can wear this beautiful Kebaya with a stylized Hijab...RBA crew wear a similar Kebaya almost identical but with a stylized Hijab design (Head covering)...they really look so Royal & Class...RBA crew won World's Leading Cabin Crew 2 years in a row including this year...RBA also flies to London, Melbourne, Tokyo, Seoul, Taipei, China, etc with 787 Dreamliners with full flights (pre pandemic)
@@rshah1831 wearing hijab or not should be optional and must never be forced on anyone. If some MAS flight attendants decide to wear hijab then let them be as long as it follows required safety procedure or protocol.
Wearing hijab isnt a measure of how good, faithful, pious, disciplined and morally correct your are. Dressing respecfully is enough

Good introduction, however I felt like it’s unfinished... we want to know more about the latest kebaya , more infos . Why the SG kebaya is more popular than our kebaya? They don’t even produce one there? I can see there’s no initiative to promote and bring out our Kebaya throughout the world ... shamed Malaysia lacks loads of attentions just like what happened to “visit Malaysia year” theme.

You don't need to feel inferior. Our Kebaya is equally beautiful and well known. We just need to focus on bringing Malaysia Airlines back to be a profitable company.
Do you know that malaysia and indonesia have more variety of kebayas than singapore even? Each malaysian state has distinguished kebaya style developed since ancient time by the malays. Kebaya sarong, kebaya pahang, kebaya selangor, etc...
Kebaya nyonya isn't even an authentic malay kebaya and it's actually baba nyonya cloth. Also a misunderstanding among foreigners that malaysian and singaporean culture are predominantly chinese. Blame it on the ignorance of foreigners, not ourselves
Why kebaya nyonya is more popular simply because singapore is more popular than malaysia
MAS's kebaya is designed by Malaysian and carries more cultural values than the SG's kebaya which is designed by the French. Their kebaya is akin to inviting a Singapore Chef to cook French dish for the French. You don't need to wait till it is popular to start admiring the beauty of Malaysian kebaya.
No doubtful our kebaya style is insanely beautiful and original. It's look perfect to any female cabin crew wearing. Wherever MAS fly everyone asking are you from Singapore Airlines? You can see how much popular they're then us. 😆

I think we need more Songket Melayu, Pua Kumbu Iban, Kalong Orang Ulu or Pinakol Rungus design to look 100% originally Malaysian.
What do you mean? Malaysia batik not same with Indonesia…
I think Songket material are not suitable to use for a long time compare to Batik are more comfortable and the cooler material.
Why did the original French designed Kebaya go to SIA and not MAS? Anyone knows?
i wonder too, but kebayas only lent a glamorous front to an airline. Good cost management brings profitable product i guess.

as a former male cabin crew working for MH from 2006-2016, i personally think baju melayu is a good idea for the boys to work around. however, tanjak, sampin is not suitable with the job functions.

Boleh buat juga tudung yg nice mcm tudung neelofa untuk stewardess yg kat luar pakai tudung dan boleh longgarkan sikit baju n kain boleh buat kipas yg kat belakang tak payah berbelah. sesuai untuk yg bertudung..pasti tetap manis dan anggun.. kalo risau due to safety yg perlukan slit yg tinggi tu bolehlah tukar ker seluar
Nop better not, kebaya is a fitted outfit I’ll rather see them in regular kebaya rather than seeing an “islamic” kebaya look ugly

It's your problem that you think islamic kebaya is ugly. Cloth evolves and culture evolves. Many malay girls think that either kebaya is pretty.

but if one of the malaysian companies tried to eradicate the clothes just because of some “religious standard” then i need to take a stand to stop and reject the idea of using religion in a national companies that have many races and religion, for f sake this is a secular country not an “Arab diluted religious country” you need to remember that.
