Don't know how much you've discovered, but you're in for some real treats. If you can find it get the two Complete Works sets and the Live at the Albert Hall. And Laser Guided Melodies is still sublime nearly 30 years after its release. Ladies and Gentlemen we are floating in space is the album that became tbe epoch album for them, but everyalbum is worth checking out. There is beauty in them all
listened to this song first time i ever took mushrooms at a beach in norcal. i was peaking, the sun was setting, and the waves were crashing in while this song was playing. i don't think i'm ever going to experience something so beautiful ever again.
It’s funny...because you don’t understand what Jason Pierce does. He doesn’t make music to do drugs to...or music that one can only enjoy while high...He is translating the high, rushes, calmness and spaced out quality of drugs into music. You can ‘feel’ those experiences in the music...safely.
Seems like for others this song means something in different ways which I love I’ve always felt a very happy very sad feeling with this song and when my dad died I think the lyrics and song itself fits it so perfect My dad loved it and it is his 1 year from his passing Cause I love you dad….
Generally 'cool hands' would seem to refer to coke, as the feeling from smack is one of warmth. I would point to the song 'Sister Morphine' and the lines 'sweet cousin cocaine, lay your cool cool hand on my face' - but in any case I think you are wrong. There may be some double meaning in the song, but it is not 'about' drugs any more than it is about anything else. Primarily I think it is 'about' relief, and love,
Sober, wasted, heartbroken, in love, riding high, existentially adrift... always spiritualized.
One of the greatest albums of all time...
