    I had considered getting this locomotive since seeing the real one at the B&O Museum, but the model's treatment of the front end compared to the photos I took of the prototype shows inaccuracies that made me change my mind. Still the best for the price but I don't want to pay that much if the modelers didn't do justice to that front end, and that's really the most prominent part of the locomotive to me.

    The locomotive is really beautiful on the front. I like the sound affect on the whistle.

    Keep the pull test, weigh in and the unboxing. Those segments have become a staple of your reviews and I personally like them. I don't care how long the videos are as long as they are interesting. And so far you have done a good job at keeping them interesting.

    Love the reviews, but would like a view running all the way around the track. Thanks for what you do.

    I say fast motion on the unboxing, and definitely a runby. The weight and pull test information is great but you could do it off- camera to save time if that's what folks want. I myself like to see it all, but I know some folks like shorter videos. Great review on a glamorous model James! Thanks for bringing it to us. Cheers, Dan

      oh a good runby would be amazing, i really want to see the loco in action doing work at typical running speeds. It would give a good idea of the look of it in motion (plus it would just be cool to watch)

    • @SouthEastRailfan
      @SouthEastRailfan 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Also maybe a quicker runby. But that's a personal thing. I like to run my steam engines a little faster as in more of a mainline speed. That's my only request. I like all the stuff you put in reviews. If you do decide to do some things off camera you could still give the information just not show it on camera

    Excellent review. However, I want the whole enchilada - I like the unboxing, the weigh in, the pull test etc. it is a more complete analysis of every engine so you can compare it to other models and manufacturers -IMHO. Keep up the good work.

    My opinion about making your episodes better, goes like this :
    Beggars can't be choosers.
    This stuff takes a lot of your time to write, shoot, review, re-shoot and finally edit that the rest of us aren't willing (even if able) to do.
    Whatever you give me is forbidden fruit. I love this stuff but my wife would lock me out of the house if she knew I was coming home with a $700 toy train.
    If I had to make suggestions it would be to use a pointer when you're showing detail (no offense to your distracting index digit) and the occasionally dim lighting, two things easily tolerated all things considered.
    Keep up the hard work. It is appreciated.

    • @jlwii2000
      @jlwii2000  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Kenneth. My wife luckily didn't lock me out of the house for this or other items. Once in awhile she does raise an eyebrow though. Thanks for appreciating the time and editing effort that goes into these. Most people don't realize it's substantial and a non replenish-able asset.

    Hi there, I'm a somewhat new subscriber, but i find the unboxing and review sections to be fine the way they are in this video, although i think it would be cool to see a bit more footage of the locomotive running on your layout, maybe different angles and speeds while testing the sounds described earlier. Thanks!

    Hi James, A very nice review of a great looking locomotive. To be honest, I do not like the smoke, there is not enough of it, so the smoke becomes toy like in appearance. I like the unboxing part of your videos. I like to see what comes in the box with the model. What does the model have for directions, any prototype locomotive information, warranty information, sound information. The way you showed the info in this video is perfect. I don't necessary have to see the pull test, just let us know the results of the pull test. I understand the locomotive was too long for your lazy Susan, but I do enjoy that part of your unboxing videos. I know you want to keep things fresh and many viewers have commented on review time, but I think you do a great job James and in my opinion, the review time on this video was perfect. Cheers, Rich.

    The only thing i like to see is the unboxing, love to see what you before possible committing. Pull test and weight can be a added note on screen. Would love to also see at the of the videos to see the models run around your layout. Kinda like ericstrains. As always great review and looking forward to your review of when BLI releases the C&O J3a. Happy modeling, Kyle.

    hi James I'm from New Zealand & I've watched your reviews often over the past couple of years. you do a good report on your collection and I personally have no qualms however I would like to see your runbys shot at a more further distance than your usual ones with the train running a slightly quicker pace. overall you reviews are cool.

    A good model let down by a 'cam close-coupling' system. MANY have tried and ALL have failed. The lobe has to have a perfect surface and the followers should have roller bearings - otherwise it does NOT work. Plus BLi loves their Toy Train Set rubber traction tire. The finish, sound and running qualities [except for derailments caused by the cam close-coupling] are as they should be for a loco of this calbre. I would prefer a Precision Scale Co. Brass 4-6-2 Hudson, C&O L-1 - Champagne taste; Beer budget.

    I just bought the #491 in yellow. It is not smoking. Where is the switch to turn on smoke? It doesn't seem to be under the engine near the cab as the instructions say. Beautiful engine. Thanks for the review.

    I see it as an engine that's got two abillities like DC and DCC it might mention steam, I've got a replica of the Commodore Vanderbilt that's got the same thing, the only problem is these days people would prefer normal model engines with no live steam, I'm glad I can have just one that can be enough.
    I talked to another TH-camr in Australia that has a Commodore Vanderbilt engine he mentioned a smoke switch to control the steam. Does the Class L-1 have the same?

    The review was great, the side angles, and rear angles are beautiful but I am not a fan of the front/facade of this engine. It looks as though the engine crashed into a barrier or guard rail. Why is it tucked in like that....seriously.....please keep the pull test and unboxing.

    I'm surprised people value unboxing so highly. I'm not that interested, but that you have it, is not a deal breaker. However, there should be a break in. I don't care if it's jerky for the first 20 min I run it, but I don't want to pay $600 for a loco that is going to be jerky forever.

      The brass hybrid models can't be had for as much of a discount as other BLI models. Stores like modeltrainstuff that normally mark down their stock well below MSRP don't have as much wiggle room with these higher end models.

      Run it at varying speeds, forward and backwards. An hour or so in each direction. After that the model should be nice and broken in,
