Closer is a god tier title track; also: third gen girl groups and their b-sides is such a thing
“Closer”, “Secret Garden”, and “The Fifth Season” are kind of the (unofficial?) fairy trilogy. They have a sound beyond this but these are the special sauce.
Hyojung (the smiley one) did an appearance this week where she did acoustic performances of Dolphin and a ballad of Secret Garden. I think you could do a deep dive in just the various stages and performances they’ve released just the last couple of days. I’m so happy they’re back!

a very fun fact about Closer: Closer was originally made as a praise song as part of contemporary Christian music. It was written in US, but for some reason the song ended up in their entertainment and when they listened to it, they decided to release it as a kpop song lmao

@@Mhochul They could draw the stars after the departure of JinE, but they haven't been doing Closer even before Ji-ho didn't renowed after her 7th year contract expired. If they did in the past they could adjust the choreo as they had to do with the other songs.

They have one of my all time favorite discographies, like they adont have a single bad, even mediocre title track. ALL bops
I say this every single time. WM Entertainment only produces bops. B1A4, Oh My Girl, ONF, Lee Chaeyeon etc. All bop queens and kings.
Oh My Girl almost disbanded because they couldn’t get traction from the industry, coming from a small company. So When Secret Garden won first place 3 years after their debut, it was truly a special moment. Like the lyrics of that song where you have to nurture a seed for things to grow slowly but surely, that’s what they did and they made it!
Everyone is so used to the big agencies in Korea that it makes it even more hard coming from a smaller agency. But they did not give up and with Nonstop and Dolphin, they became household names in Korea! I believe this story of determination and perseverance is what made people, not just the fans, love Oh My Girl so much! ❤️
Regardless of my mood, when the chorus to Secret Garden hits it never fails to get me extremely emotional!
If you think you love them now, you have no idea what you're in for 😂 they have one of the most beautiful friendships and they're like actual sisters. They're also genuinely hilarious!

They're called 'the concept fairies' because they're super-versatile while still somehow consistently themselves. They just always know the assignment. Then, on top of all that, they're all-kill visual, fantastic performers, and super fun.
The Fifth Season is one of the greatest kpop songs ive ever heard and got me into oh my girl. SSFWL stands for Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter, LOVE! hence the fifth season!

i'll never shut about how special secret garden is as a whole. the end of the mv when the members go to arin (their youngest), the lyrics about growth and trust and also the members writing messages specifically to arin. also how this gave them their first win and literally being the song that saved them as a group. as they said, without our hard times we wouldn't be where we are right now, i've grown up with them and i am so proud and grateful.
The queendom performances are a must for oh my girl, cause that was the moment for them!

It's been years and Closer is still giving me chills like no other song
Whether you two do a reaction to it, or listen to it in your own time, you really owe it to yourselves to listen to their song "My Doll". It's a B-side off the same album as Dun Dun Dance. It has an MV, but listen to it while watching a lyrics video because the lyrics are such an important part of it. It's a hauntingly beautiful song that's so out there that it can't even be pigeonholed as K-pop; it's just art and I legit get teary-eyed and emotional every time I listen to it. It's not just one of my favorite Oh My Girl songs; it's one of my favorite songs period.

Secret Garden is actually the group's saving grace from disbandment and the song itself fits their journey. :) From there onwards, they grew as a group and their fanbase slowly but surely grew a lot up until this point.
In closer, the choreography actually is about zodiac signs and the meaning behind the song is about a person's growth and how they missed the past where they were innocent and etc. Someone actually had a detailed explanation about it in tumblr back then. It's a good read,

Their lightstick is the white stag. In old fayerie lore, the white stag will lead you to the fayerie realm if you follow it. It is part of The Great Hunt. There is a lot of old and rich fairy lore and symbolism in a lot of Oh My Girl songs and videos and products. I think it’s part of what makes them my number one group. It’s a strong thread through my own life (my greatest love has been my fairy princess for 30 years now).

i think DeuKae fans are also Oh My Girl fans because they are both whimsical groups, but in different fonts. whilst DeuKae focuses on the "dark" whimsical (horror, urban legends, creepy, etc.), Oh My Girl is all about "light" whimsical (folklore, fantasy, mythical, etc.). they are also both groups that suffer from the same misfortune of being disregarded based on their genre: in the sense that just as how people don't pay attention to DuKae's talents (both in singing and dancing as well as conceptualizing and creating a stories) because they are a more "rock" focused group, the same happens with Oh My Girl where people don't truly recognize all the girls' talents (in singing, dancing and conceptualization as well) because they are a "soft-bubblegum-pop" presenting group. which is unfortunate because they are both insanely talented groups with great music.
also, there's the fact that Seunghee from Oh My Girl (the girl from the "can you hear my cry" part in Closer) is close friends with Siyeon from DeuKae and an overall closeted InSomnia lol
i'd recommend you guys check out both Oh My Girl's interviews on Jessi's Showterview (rip) there's one with just Seunghee and one with (almost) all the members. it's a nice insight to the girls' personalities.
Don't forget that Gahyeon close with Arin. I believe that they were classmates as well.

As for Closer it really was a choir song demo and they really wanted to make it their title, so they really realesed one of the best songs in kpop history, but at the same time had unluck to relise it so early in their carieer with no fandom or big exposure. They had no wins until Secret Garden, it was a rough path for them. And to people forever comparing all their music to it.
Yes OMG is a very high vocal standart group, most members are all rounder too. And yes their bside quality is amazing, their new albums had no skips.

I think Closer is legitimately one of the best Kpop songs ever. But it makes sense since Oh My Girl has one of the best discographys ever.
Okay! There is so much to talk about with this group! Their concept feels like the epitome of “dreamy.” Dreams are fantastical, weird, emotional, and a little bit quirky. And they don’t have a conventional “lore” like some groups (ie LOONA) but when I was watching their MVs in order, I started picking up on recurring themes and motifs, like Yubin is often seen with a bird cage, YooA is often surrounded by nature and flowers, and tons of animal motifs from deer, to whales and dolphins, to teddy bears. It’s one of those storytelling methods that focuses more on the emotions being conveyed rather than any sort of logic. I think that’s why I found myself getting emotional with some of their MVs, especially The Fifth Season (I have cried TWICE watching that MV); there’s some sort of emotional aspect that can’t easily be described with words but you just feel it deep down. I am so excited to see you guys check out more from this group and talk about them more!
Closer was the song that made me stan and stayed loyal throughout the years. It is because of this song alone, I knew how talented this girls are and im so thankful they’re finally being acknowledged for their talents now ❤❤
Watching you reacting to these old oh my girls mvs makes me so emotional again. Got so many flashbacks where I was in my oh my girls phase when I got into them. The album the fifth season healed me in my struggling time in spring 2019. When closer started I had to hide my tears so much. When I watch a mv from an artist and cry then the artist got me. Oh my girl are one of my fav girl groups and secret artists.

Thanks for doing this group as they have been one of my favorites right after Closer dropped. They have grown so much since 2015, but I didn't think much of the newest song. Binnie (Yubin) who used to be my least favorite in the beginning has grown so much as they give her more lines than ever since Non-Stop and let her show more range and power. She also let her hair grow out which never flattered her face with the short hair style for years so visually she's powered up exponentially. Now she is my bias wrecker of Sunghee who's a crackhead in the most adorable way. You hit my three favorite songs of theirs in one video. I can't wait until you get to Liar Liar which has two versions of that video. I still love the tennis shoes that look like roller skates in the one version.
For me their participation on Queendom was peek OMG with their remake of Destiny from Lovelyz who came out about the same time. As much as I love Mamamoo, to me OMG really won Queendom hands down and Mamamoo's new song released at the end was their worst song ever. Lovelyz who was also on Queendom that year was another of my sleeper favorites who chose not to stay together after their contracts ended last year. 2015 was such a loaded year with new girl groups that it was hard to keep up when you are about a 50 year old fan. If you want a funny video and song catch the sub-group BANHANA (3 members of OMG) with the song Banana Allergy. If you don't post or do on the live stream then you should watch on your own time. There is a Japanese version and the regular version.
Despite all their recent big hits - Closer remains my favourite song. I hope you also check out one of their best bsides one step two step

oh my girl has amazing vocals and is my favorite group when it comes to competition. they have already participated in about 3 that I followed in a group/ duo/ solo and the rapper that you liked called Mimi was in all of them. It would be great to see you react to the most memorable of them in reality and if I could nominate the best they would be: 1 Guerilla (in reality queendom they were in second place and this was their last song there) 2 Checkmate (in reality good girl they were paired with Mimi and YooA which is the other one you mentioned) 3 Y2K (Mimi's first solo on the "second world" reality show where it was just rappers competing in duels to show their vocals) 4 pporappipam (cover of mimi in this same reality, the vocals and the break are incredible)
In fact, Closer was made with the gospel and turned the song into a K-pop song.
Oh My Girl is famous in Korea as a dreamy girl group, but they also sing bright and refreshing songs. 😊
After re-watching all these with you I realise greatly how many significant parts Jiho had wow - sad that she left after the 7 year contract renewals

Dophin MV has lot of bloopers and behind the scenes content of their past MVs because they didn't expect this song to blow up like it did, it's one of their most popular songs ever and charted a long time (don't remember how long) so they decided to make a special video for it in the set of their other song's mv "BUNGEE (Fall in Love)" without any plan so that's why they included bloopers and behind the scenes content.
That's just what I think is going on.
only music staffs had known their goodness since 2016, according to Hwanghyun(producer crew "monotree" ) "these girls were a superstar to me, crowds are now recognizing them"
I have a theory why DC fans tend to also like OMG (as well as mamamoo)......alll of those groups are first and foremost VOCAL groups. Between vocals, choreo, rap, concept....vocals by far is #1. These groups tend to have many more voices that are clear and open and they all have super proper singing technique so they all sing and drive their voices through the notes to the next note. Lots of choreo based groups tend to have "lift" and air or nasal sounds in their voice bc of the physical (and air) demands of dancing so hard so verses tend to not sound so connected compared to DC or OMG or Mamamoo, OMG and DC (with the exception of Siyeon) also sing very straight and hardly use any vibrato. I think if you like that open, clean, driving, straight tone you tend to gravitate towards groups that sing like that
