@@jimthecarguy Thanks for the reply! One other thing that would help on this video is a section on what to do if rust on the inside of the rotor causes it to catch on the parking brake shoes. Your rotors came right off but mine were a struggle. Part of the answer is to loosen the star adjuster on the brake shoes. But that's another struggle. On this vehicle, it's in an awkward place and there doesn't seem to be enough clearance for the ordinary tools to turn it. (Some engineer's cruel joke on auto mechanics?) I had to make my own shortened L-shaped tool and then use a mirror to see what I was doing. And, even then, one rotor was so rusted I wound up destroying the shoes and springs trying to get it off. It would be great to see what the pros do when the job doesn't go smoothly.
That's the first time I saw an "O" ring on the center of the hub. I'm glad the screw driving came in handy. :) As always, you produced a very well explained video. Anyone could do this job after viewing your video.
You did a perfect professional job on that Jeep like you always do when repairing the ones you have in the shop. I hope the machanic's here work like that and that is why I do as much work as I can on my own vehicles, and to save money.
This was my first brake job on our jeep grand cherokee and was unsure about the noise retaining clips you were very concise and explanitory in your video it was a big help ti me finished opposite side in 20 minutes after watching this thanks jim!!

Excellent detailed video on rotors. Only issue I had is the caliper hex bolt. Depending on the vehicle it can be a 10mm hex or 11mm hex. The Jeep you had didn't have vented rotors needing Only a small 7mm.

I’m getting a running noise from the rear brakes after replacing the pads and rotors. Took it apart again to see if anything was rubbing but not able to see anything noticeable. Have you ran into this before the the Jeep GC?
I’m having trouble getting the rotor off. I’ve got it loose but it’s almost like the parking brake is engaged. My guess is just that the tolerance is super tight so it’s fighting me. I double checked to make sure it’s not engaged. Is there a trick to loosening it while the rotor is still on?

i opened up my knuckle when i had no room taking the lower motor mount bolt off on my nissan 3 yrs ago, it split open 😂😂😂 wish i had seen this back then

Do you find that there's slightly less clearance with the air suspension? I couldn't get my 7mm Allen 'socket' and 3/8" drive in behind the bottom pin. I am glad you mentioned the 'O' ring too.
@Patty Homes Undid the caliper bracket bolt, hinged it out to get the 7mm in, then rotated it back and threaded in the bolt until I cracked the pin loose. Once it is loose you can unscrew it with your fingers.
Jim, Before doing my rear rotor and pad on my 2016 GC, my e brake was tight and effective. Now that I have replaced my brakes it is weak and doesn't hold nearly as well. Is there a way to adjust this without taking the caliber and rotor back off?
In all the brakes jobs I’ve done I’ve never used a compressor on calipers or pry bar I remove the cover off brake reservoir and use my hands to compress caliper on vehicle before removal just use hands to squeeze calipers.. try it works

Jim, There was no mention of the e/brake, i presume the e/brake was deactivated by scrolling down the radio/illustration panel screen on the dash, my 2014 Jeep Cherokee Limited Sport 3.2 V6 you would scroll down on the screen to were it says ( service brakes ) it ask - push to service brakes - on or off..i presume that process would be needed to do to retract the rear e/brakes to service mode, would that be correct Jim.. Off coarse there is the e/brake toggle switch on the counsel, that should be in the off position as well.. Thanks Jim..
I'm dying to know.. how long did it actually take you to break the 18mm bolts loose.. just changed the factory pads an a 2015 myself - I has to use a breaker bar. No way you took those off with a 12 inch socket wrench lol. But makes for a good video!

Yes I,do. The inner pad does not seem to make full contact. the outer side is making full contact. I have been driving the car for 3 days and it does not look like the inner pad makes contact with the rotor.
Please make sure the master cylinder is not full before pressing the piston back in. If someone filled it at a servicing (or something) you'll have a mess. If it's full, suck some out.
john1240able I have to put front brake pads on my dodge every 2 years. My rotors and calipers are original though. I did a complete job in the back because I let it go to long.
It's a good video, but you gloss over the torque specs. They are very important, and I think someone without experience will under torque the bracket and over torque the caliper. If I looked it up correctly, the bracket is 89 ft-lbs and the caliper is 20 ft-lbs (although another source I saw says 32 - this needs to be verified). Also, these might be torque-to-yield bolts; they shouldn't be re-used if they are
Why bother removing the calipers, just remove the brackets with the calipers still attached, you can do the entire job in 10 minutes with an 18mm and a hammer.
Just did my rear brakes on my 14 JGC, The tip with the wrench on the 7mm hex was a lifesaver. Thank you Sir!

My new rotors didn't go on that easy. I actually had to force them on. Could there be something wrong with my e brake?

Front is much the same except you need an 11 mm hex socket which you will have to order from Napa because NO ONE has an 11 mm hex socket in stock!

2016 rear break caliper piston do u have to turn and push the piston to get it back in or push push with a c clamp

Hey Leo. The Grand Cherokee (WK2) doesn't have an electronic e-brake. It has a manual foot pedal/cable driven system.

Actually they did come off using the 12 inch ratchet. Possibly yours were rusted.Thanks for watching

7mm hex is probably the stupidest thing ever done by Dodge! The problem is you can only break it loose then do the rest by hand.
Jeez, hit the rotor lightly around the edge to brake it free. No way would i smash it like that...

No that will not work . You need to replace the hardware and lube the slide pins and hardware
