Dude Thanks a Million. Aside from the quality of sound as a DJ I’ve always been relying on just the controller board and u just taught me a valuable lesson!!!!
The Architect Of Sound: Yes, it is a sage investment on a product that has been around probably; since, I would say around 1972. There is nomenclature about the mixer that has not been amended all that much in 50 years; so that, it very much intuitive. The pre-amps are very solid and this will last many, many years. Keep up the good work and enjoy your sound quality.
I actually have that mixer & do the same with my DDJ 1000. It’s always better to use an external mixer simply because it pushes more sound plus all its capabilities. I purchased 2 actually one to take with me every weekend cuz I’m a mobile Dj & one for my home set up for podcasting. Great purchase & great vid bro. Now clean that garage lol
Use the 1/4" over the RCA. 1/4" in balanced and less susceptible to outside interference. There is a reason professional controllers (and other sound output) all use 1/4" and XLR - RCA are a good backup.
this was my question. so RCA out the controller to 1/4 to the mixer correct? what about auxilary for phone or ipad? would i need two 1/4" or one 1/4" to connect to phone? i guess it has to do with stereo and mono. sorry im new to mixers, just got a Behringer xenyx 802 and trying to learn lol thanks!
@@abesickerz Its more about distance and Interference. The further away you are from the speaker the more likely you are vulnerable to outside interference. get good wires and you will be fine with RCA's
I am thinking about getting a mixer because now iam a up and coming dj and when on social media and sometime my sound will sound so bad and iam thinking about buying a Makie
The main purpose for an additional mixer is more headroom for audio. The controller has a limiter and will peak fast depending on your setup whether it’s with just powered tops or coupled with subs. The mixer will allow more volume and has a greater preamp for microphones. The mic preamp on most controllers are dog shit. The mixer is useful for better sound quality overall. The SR2 can get really harsh esp if your pushing it past 12 o clock master. I used to have the SR2 now i have the SRT. Much better sound quality imo.
Thanks Barn-E, now i understand how its all connected. I have the Traktor S8 and also have the Yamaha MG 10 XU. Now I can prepare myself better. In Canada they have just announced that full capacity at venues and weddings will be allowed once again after 2 years, this will open up the business again, thanks again for the great video!
Out of the hundreds of videos I watched about this topic you are the only one that I understand and demonstrates step by step how to hook all this stuff up, it’s super confusing but you made it very clear what people need. Would it possible to do one with an audio interface included
I agree with another comment use 1/4 inch sounds a lot better. I have always used a mixer as it does get you out of trouble, I have a 2nd laptop set for emergencies. Also means you can connect more than 1 Mic .
Appreciate you bro. I got my first gig in 4 weeks. I was worried I didn’t know what to do. I’m starting with a DDJ400. So there isn’t much too work with
Thanks Brother. I'm a new mobile Dj and have now gotten to the point where I'm looking at getting a line mixer as up until now, I've been connecting directly to my speakers from my controller. I admit I had been been intimidated by the mixers all together. After watching several videos, I'm convinced of the value this would bring to my setup and now zeroing in on what particular mixer I will purchase. Showing how you connect everything was really helpful and I thank you much.
Good video bro but. You should connect 1/4 from your controller to your mixer. Left side on channel one and right side on channel 2. You can use the pan to switch them to left and right on the channel. It’s better then RCA bro trust me.
Hi, why is it better? especially, if I only have the RCA to XLR and no 1/4 (as we speak), what changes with the set up you sugested? whgat do you mean by using the pan to switch? Thanks
Came to same the same. When you do that you get true stereo sound. You could achieve the same by plugging your RCA's into separate channels. Xlr and trs 1/4 are both balanced, rca is not, that is why it is better.
I have the Mackie Mix 8. for ceremony I run the mic and laptop through it. For reception I only run the mic through it. the controller goes direct to the speakers.
the only reason i started to do it like this was cuz of the example i gave if my laptop shuts down my controller does too because its being powered by my laptop.

question for you as a novice; where do you set your level controls on your controller when you sdend your sound to the mixer? are all of your dials at 12 o'clock? and is your master volume on your controller at max? and is it possible to use xlr left and right and placing them in input 1 and 2 of the yamaha mixer?
I usually have all my dials at 12 on the mixer. i control mostly everything on my on my controller cuz it makes it easier for me than to b looking over to the mixer if i have to adjust something. i can tell u how i connect everything n all my setting but if u dont have the same exact equipment as i do it wont b the same. so just try different things and see what works for you

Always turn your speakers / PA system off first, before anything else. Then you can unplug / turn off / disconnect anything you like and it doesn't matter. Likewise at the beginning of the setup - connect everything up and power on first, THEN turn your soundsystem / PA on LAST. If you're working in a venue where you're not in control of the PA system, be sure to check they have turned you down or powered down front of house before you disconnect anything.
