What would be much better would be augmented reality on my phone with arrows and icons telling me where to go the whole way to where I need to be.

Few Airports in the Uk has this. For eg. gatwick airport introduced VR in 2017 to help passengers for easier navigation

Macnamara is literally a straight line. If you need arrows to know which way to go, you’re better off just asking someone to walk you down lmao

The McNamara terminal opened up in 2001. It really was a gem ahead of its time back then. I always felt that with many bad things about American airports, Detroit is actually one of the better airports considering that it’s a hub. Definitely an underrated airport.

I think this airport set the bar for many of the new airport projects that we are seeing now like the new LGA, O hare and even internationally with airports like Doha, Narita getting a lot of inspiration from how this was designed.

Similar technology (minus the mass surveillance, which is no doubt coming) to the sci-fi movie Minority Report where a billboard talks to you as you walk by it, pitching you products based on your personal buying habits.

Exactly what I instantly thought of too. This is how they implement more control. Introduce it as neat beneficial and fun, slowly make it more and more "secure" and in common usage until eventually, you'll have no choice but to participate in the system in order to travel, make purchases, etc. Before you know it, we'll too have to exchange our eyes to be able to move freely once something about you has become illegal

But last week, my mom with wheelchair assistance waited 1hr and 15mins for a wheelchair and it NEVER came and the ticket agent finally gave my brother a pass to get through security and RUNNNNN to the gate with only 5 mins until gate closes. Wtf. We don’t need a parallel reality, we need staff for actual reality!

An individual's information is only visible at a very particular spot, and the camera is behind the person who's information is being displayed.
The camera is effectively in the same "very particular spot" as the passenger (in this case the news reporter)

    • @miriguwa1958
      @miriguwa1958 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

@@KevinJohnMulligan So if I stood behind the passenger I could also see this information? Also, how does the passenger know where the particular spot is?

    • @TakenTook

@@miriguwa1958 -- Exactly my concern as well. It seems like all someone would need to do is walk up directly behind you, take out their phone, angle it in just the right way, and snap a picture to have all that info about you.
I don't take very many airplane trips, but if I do ever fly Delta, I am not going to utilize this system. In fact, I will call the airport ahead of time and find out if it is mandatory to move to the next part of the concourse. If so, then I won't fly Delta!

@@miriguwa1958 if you stay directly behind a passenger yes, you would see it. But the passenger doesn’t need to know a specific place, the cameras track where the person is, as far as I understand

You know what pisses me off?
This technology was shown 3 years ago - it was ready! And still this is it - this is that one example that we get. Nobody invested in it but Delta???
Remember 3D TVs and how all the big companies were trying to make you buy a 3D TV with glasses? And then they said well, 3D TV is dead and it's the consumer fault.
Guess what - there is a clip of that same tech shown in a lab by Microsoft Applied Science (Misapplied Science is the company that sold this to Delta) that is 12 years old now!!!
At no point someone from the brass was like: Hey, you know what? I think I know how this cool tech we have can be ACTUALLY APPLIED!!!!!
This could have changed TVs forever, but it was just brushed off. And it still is.
We never learn and we will never have good things. Everything is so f.d up! Only yesterday I was watching about a propeller that could save lots of fuel on ships and even airplanes and it was designed in the 70s. But we don't care about stuff like that. We just roll with what we have right now. Makes me furious! Talking about lowering emissions when you have this simple thing just sitting on a shelf in a back room!
