Laura, thank you for sharing your story! We have a few things in common. I'm from Northern CA and was also baptized in early 1975 at the age of 15. And my single mom was receiving SS benefits too! But my JW mom insisted I start working when I turned 18 instead of going to community college. She told me I could not go to college and continue living at home. She did not even want me working full time or missing field service and meetings. I had just graduated from high school and had no money, job, car, or friends outside the witnesses so I began working part-time and contributing a little to the household. Eventually, I saved enough to move out and began attending college at the age of 24. I also remember the talk given by Bro Franz (1976?) after armageddon didn't happen. A huge deal was made of the fact that he was speaking at the convention. Many elders seemed to know what the talk was about but refused to divulge any info ahead of time. One of my fave young elders did tell me that many would be sorely disappointed and leave "the truth". Even though I still believed at that point, I had never really cared about living in the new system. And I was beginning to like what I was seeing of the world, lol. It took me five more years to leave and it was very painful.
Wow, I’ve known so many my age that never got a college education and are now dealing with no retirement savings. If you live in the Bay Area, I would love to connect with you. DM on Fb

What a nice congregation, when my mother died I was expecting my brothers and sisters to be there for me because I was one of them, but nobody showed up because she wasn’t a JW, that was what a sister told me! I cried a lot! my family was asking me, do you think any of your elders will come and say something for us? My family is not a religious family, so they weren’t a member of any church!
I’m so sorry for your experience. From my understanding congregations can have different personalities. My sister was known in the congregation though she never went to a meeting or studied. But, she took care of my mom so she could pioneer. And we were very close. We had a Memorial at the mortuary. An elder spoke for 20 min, other people gave comments, I even spoke on behalf of the family. It was so not a JW memorial, but everyone was there.

I was afraid for a while after I decided I wanted to leave. My daughter was disfellowshipped, and my son faded away. I missed them so much even though I was still talking to them, but I was trying to get them back to the meetings so our conversations were definitely very awkward. The way I woke up was when my cousin sent me some religious links, so I felt I could sent him the link to our page. Then he sent me a link to a video about why JWs are considered a cult. But I couldn’t bring myself to view it. I finally started but I found some errors so I started doing research. That’s when I woke up! I was like Laura. I spent every minute lookin up things which made me more like determined to leave. This is one of the best Interviews I’ve seen about EX Jehovah witness. I’ve always knew Jehovah witness was a business. When she said it was a pyramid I was I knew it. Laura made this interview interested and fun. Just her personality.
This is what concerns me most about such a deceptive organization as the Watch Tower. Good sincere people spend their whole lives serving faithfully to enrich the lives of deceitful men in New York for the false promise of a paradise earth in the future (which never comes). When this woman’s mother died during the telling interview, I thought “What a waste of a person’s life! This is wrong…”. Many other faithful JWs have also died in the darkness of this cult. Sadly, people don’t think about their end until it is too late. 🙏. P.S. A very good, award winning video series about the origins of Judaism and Christianity is “The Footprints of God” series by Steve Ray.
Yes, my mom loved her life waiting for paradise. But, she was supported and loved to preach. She converted at 43 and this new religion made her happy and feel valued. But that not the case for most. Born ins never have that luxury to choose as adults. It’s expected and they are guilted into baptism, which then traps them.
Whatever reasons a person has for converting to the Jehovah’s Witnesses (feelings of loneliness, social isolation, wanting to belong somewhere, or other), this organization was built on lies from the beginning. Charles Russell was a disgruntled youth with not even a high school education when he founded Zion’s Watch Tower in the late nineteenth century. He walked away from his father’s haberdashery business to start his own false religion for profit $$. He never had any theological training or ordination from any religious body. Judge Rutherford was an attorney with no theological credentials either. In the old days, people called men like Russell and Rutherford “snake oil salesmen.” 👍
❤Thanks Laura , I was also born catholic and I was born again later having called on the name of the Lord Jesus. The Jehovah’s Witnesses called to visit me for years and I was reading Gods word daily and studying by myself When I was born again I was led to read John and Acts and the word became alive to me. I kept debating the word with the Jehovah’s Witnesses and we kept debating. Eventually they stopped coming and another Jehovah’s Witness told me that the Jehovah’s witnesses were ordered to keep from my home because I was demonic and wouldn’t submit to their indoctrination. I decided to learn more of this .organization and I discovered about their failed prophecies and about Beth Sarim which was the mansion that they built for Abraham and the Old Testament Saints ❤. The only "we" you're referring to is a rapidly dwindling few millions of brainwashed cult members. By the way, Armageddon was supposed to come when you reached a critical mass of JWs. How does that make any sense when your numbers keep falling? Anyone care to guess the canned Watchtower response? 1 Thessalonians 5:2?

(1 Corinthians 14:33) The Bible says that actually there is only "one faith." (Ephesians 4:5) Who, then, are the ones who form the body of true worshipers today?
We do not hesitate to say that they are Jehovah's Witnesses.
So why r u on this site? Which religion or group represented that one faith for almost 2000 yrs?
Haven’t you been warned about viewing apostate material? I see you trolling on so many exJW comments. You sound foolish and you’re exposing the typical JW arrogant ignorance.
@@AlexisLexLexi Jesus shared good news. Jesus walked hundreds of miles on dusty roads, sharing the good news as many people as possible (Luke 8:1) To be a follower of Jesus we are to follow his example or footsteps. (Isaiah 61:1) A Christian is a follower of Jesus. To be his follower means to be not just a believer but an imitator. From the time of his baptism, Jesus spent much of his time in preaching and teaching the good news of God's kingdom. He was, in fact, addressed as "Teacher." (John 13:13; Matt. 23:8) He is called "the faithful and true witness" for he faithfully witnesses to his Father's will and purpose. ----Rev. 3:14; John 18:37; 1 Tim. 6:13.
To stay with Jesus Christ is to stay with those whom he pleased to use. Outside the true congregation, what alternative organization is there" Only Satan's organization consisting of his political "wild beast" and his Babylonian world empire of false religion. ----Rev. 13:1, 14, 15; 17:3-6.
Its ALL christians because God says in the great trib to get oit of there my people. His people are in ALL of babylon being deceived.
The Bible is a Jehovah's Witness Book.----Isaiah 43:10-12.
None of this makes sense :(
What about this interview didn’t make sense
Remember when the JW's taught that once the 144,000 anointed remnants were complete, Armageddon would finally come? Cause they conveniently forgot. 🤷♂
Laura is so funny😅
