- How did Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray become the first teammates to scored 30 points and each have a triple double in Game 3 of the NBA Finals against Miami? This film room study details Denver's unstoppable two-man game, all the defensive coverages Erik Spoelstra, Bam Adebayo and the Heart tried to slow them down, along with the Nuggets defensive improvements and adjustments from earlier in the series.

Brauns defense is elite. Remember how he was glued to KD and then contesting without fouling, strong, quick and explosive. Hit the jackpot getting him.
so he's basically...LE-Braun?
NCAA champion last year and 3 times high-school champion, he knows the path better than some veterans 😂
I’m glad he playing well in the finals, he got quickly played off the floor during the Lakers series where he just too small
A lineup of Murray, Braun, MPJ, Gordon, Jokic could do some serious damage in the next 5 years. Jokic is only 28 years old.
Calvin Booth earned his paper man.
“is there any way to stop jokic and murray?” the short answer: no
The long answer: nnnnnnnnnooooooooo😂
Embiid wishes he was as good as Jokic
Make a voodoo doll?
Jokic, absolutely not
Murray could potentially be contained though
Honestly we don't really need to stop either of them though as long as we hit our threes that we're getting that our wideeee open since everyone aside from those two on Denver is basically a non-factor on offense so far
Zaza could stop them.
Nuggets could genuinely be looking at a dynasty right now. Murray has fully realized his potential and Joker is just out here hooping on a different level then us mere mortals. Jokic genuinely has basketball clairvoyance, able to pass guys open or create opportunities for himself off his teammates misses. Ridiculous.
And Nugs have plenty of young talent to grow with.
@@debas3d bruan is a all defensive first team type defender at least in this series he looks like it
Guys these are people not gods, they can win and lose.
@@jasonhomes937 jordan and the bulls could win and lose, kobe and shaq could win and lose, steph and the warriors could win and lose. they didn't that's why it's called a dynasty, what even is the point of your comment?
@@Myhaay I said that because you Denver fans are putting your star on a pedalstool and acting like he's a god that can't be stopped. In fact the OP literally said that Jokic is "hooping on a different level than us mere mortals" that implies that he or she thinks that Jokic is an unstoppable god. Furthermore, all of you keep saying that the nuggets offense is unstoppable when that is not true, they can be stopped maybe not by the heat, but they are human after all, Michael Malone isn't a next level genius that can't be figured out, not to discredit him great coach.
I'm a total defense geek so I love your breakdowns that show the strats employed by teams.
defense rules
yeah this is teaching me so much about basketball.
now when i’m watching the game i’m looking for specific picks and noticing shifts vs switches on defense.
makes the game much more enjoyable and it makes you realize just how insane Jokic really is. the Joker is a basketball god
As a casual it leave me in awe at how COMPLEX the games are
Defense is the true test of team chemistry.
@@iLLustrious85 Because it is. Its a different kind of complexity than NFL games because there is a fluidity to it. Subtle adaptations can happen faster (given the right coach/personnel) throughout a given half. And even then the athletes have to play those strategies out just as well.
To play defense at this level while also putting up the numbers that Jokic and Murray are doing is incredible.
Doing all of that while playing 44 minutes. These dudes aren't just good. Their conditioning is incredible as well.
@@kurosan0079In the playoffs your best players are expected to be playing over 40 minutes. The team is playing for the season and for the championship. These aren't regular season games where you can get blown out by the 3rd/4th and you think about the next night and new opponent.
@@t4d0W is it crazy to say the nugs have the best conditioning due to practicing at altitude?
@@roehmvanwinkle7571no that simple science but people don’t admit that advantage
@@roehmvanwinkle7571 must be why the nuggets are always a dominant team.
This has to be the best game analysis channel on TH-cam. The switching back and forth between game 2 and 3 really illustrates what Nuggets are doing differently to counter Miami.
Totally agree! As a Nuggets fan, I get so frustrated for the opposing teams’ coaches when I see their fans criticizing them. For example, I see people mad at Spo for going away from “what was working the last game,” not acknowledging that Denver already corrected for that “fix” and made it a weakness that he couldn’t afford to get further exploited. There’s a reason why Strus, Gabe, and Robinson etc. had great numbers and minutes for a game or two before their offense got neutralized and they became defensive liabilities.
Literally the modern day Shaq and Kobe. I cannot wait until it's all said and done and people start using Jokic and Murray highlights as the meme of two people just straight up dominating.
I’m a Miami fan but this Nuggets team has incredible teamwork on top of talent on both sides. What a nice game to watch.
Your team is pretty amazing as well and giving my boys a run for their money for sure! 🫡
The chemistry these two have can only happen when you have played for a considerable amount of time together. Denver are reaping the rewards for their patience
Heat defended VERY well, but I don’t think any defense could stop this
the only ones who can beat Denver is Denver themselves, like they did in Game 2 by playing lazy. Miami may win one more game but this series is a wrap.
@RkyMtnChi they nearly did this game too. I thought they were gonna crumble when heat cut it down to 9 with 1 minute and something left.
@@blackclover4375 9 is still a safe distance bro
@@rkymtnchi503 FACTS ppl keep saying Heat played well but it's all miscommunication for Nuggets. They didn't miscommunicate on defense in game 3 and look what happened? Heat couldn't make their shots cuz they're all contested due to defense. And then you have to deal with the offense. When players move around and penetrate the paint, Nuggets offense is unbeatable.
Heat has great team defense but they lack lockdown defenders
Wow! It's very apparent Braun had an impact on offense but I didn't notice how good he was on defense. His defense @05:28 was so impressive. Chasing cutters, switching, then providing help all in one defensive possession.
The whole video is amazing, of course but the catch of Jokic using his foot to block a pocket pass when showing on the p and r is next level.
And this is Murray after he missed two straight seasons bc of an ACL tear... Imagine how horrifying these two would be if they had the two extra years to hone their combination plays.
Jamal will only get better next season
@@estebansanchez8240 These playoffs have to be a confidence booster for him.
I just want everyone to understand that this is delayed progress. Half of this duo has been sidelined for practically 2 years. Seeing where these 2 have caught track; this duo could’ve possibly been 2 time champions already working on a 3 peat. 3 Time MVP Robbery and Murray definitely has the Potential to win a Scoring Title.
Denver’s Amazing; please ignore the boring label.
Facts. Didn’t think about that
Nope. First year with gordon kcp porter protecting them
@@xavierb9061 Check their numbers after the Gordon trade in 2021. They were an elite unit right away. That's why the Nuggets were willing to wait for Murray and MPJ to return.
@@alextrivunovic644 no kcp..gordon and kcp means no weak offensive or defensive player protecting big 3
I disagree I think Murray has been inconsistent the past years before his injury, he has only solved his inconsistencies after he came back from injury. If he can keep this up sure I can see it but I think we're getting ahead on ourselves. Jokic on the other hand is a bonafide star will probably win 2 more MVPs honestly unless someone else gets the pity award.
These two are great, but can we appreciate how big Christian bruan has been these last 2 games. Especially in game 3.
good timing...because porter jr was useless in the last games...no defense and no scoring
@@vinipcplayeri thought his D and energy were good last game. He was genuinely bad game 2 though.
MPJ needs to stop shooting side-step threes as if he is a dominant shooter, instead use his size to post or get to the rim. The guy is five plus inches taller than the next. Denver is just bigger than Miami.
@@jayscott9289 he trynna become the next tatum, i feel him.
3:00 to me, this was the biggest shot of the game. I know it was early, but Miami was on a roll and the crowd was ROARING. Denver could’ve easily lost composure and had to spend most of the rest of the game clawing back from a big deficit. instead, Murray hit a cold-blooded three that put Heat fans right back in their seats.
That was definitely a huge shot and seemed to completely shut down the roll Miami was on
It was exactly what they needed
Was that also the time where two consecutive fouls against Miami are called?
If this was the Celtics, the lead would ballooned to 15 at the end of 2nd qtr. That's how mentally weak they are in these situations.
@@shamsielshahar120 I can’t tell if you’re a Celtics hater or a hurting fan but you’re right about that fr 😂
Forget those two, I’d start worrying about Christian Braun
Rookie syndrome
Hes just another big dude that basically has mismatches across miami's roster, but the caviat is he plays at guard position so those mismatches are even more apparent, no one on miami's backcourt is big enough to outmuscle him
Braun is a X factor especially if the team has small guards. Boy is a beast Athleticsally
It was a pleasant surprise, but Denver has been benefiting from pleasant surprises all year. Murray and Jokic are going to get their points. Opposing teams accept it. What dooms them is even trying to slow them down means Braun, Brown, KCP, and even Jeff Green get good looks. KCP's higher scoring games have made the difference in the playoffs. This helps because while Aaron Gordon is playing monster defense, his scoring is down.
Jokic just put up 30, 20, and 10. Chill.
I always learn something from these videos. It helps my understanding of the game, and I've been watching for 40 years. Slowing it down to show the defensive movement really makes it clear how Denver is adapting to what Miami did in Game 2. Kudos.
Same here. These videos provide great insight. During the game, I try to watch the off ball action to pick up on these points.
What Mike Malone has done g3 is the perfect definition of “adjustments” that everyone says makes a good coach. Usually the adjustments are little tweaks but they can have huge consequences on the game

Jokic and Murray had the same amount of points, rebounds, assists, and blocks as the *entire* Heat team except for Jimmy Butler.
I look forward to these breakdowns basically as much as the actual game, Bens a champ!
Dude seriously haha
Miami has outscored Denver by 5 threes or more in each game so far, yet only barely won 1 and got blanked in the other 2. Goes to show you the complete game the Nuggets play.
It's pretty crazy that in order to just barely beat these two and the Nuggets, the Heat had to hit 50% from 3. And it doesn't seem like they have any other way to beat Denver, so can they really hope to have that sort of shooting for 3 more wins?
Probably not in 3 of the possible 4 remaining games.
tbh you really can’t stop their 2 man game because you key on one of them then the other can kill you if you switch on the screen then you lead to one of them possibly having a mismatch they are able to take advantage of
Real reason is nuggets have no weak player to leave open
This is not an accident and it drosnt happen with every two stars. We know from Durant Westbrook, it didn't work to its potential because the ego was too much and they didn't have great coaching to help role players along with it.
Even if you “could” stop the two, they still have good role players cutting and shooting.
Was literally just thinking when you would release your Game 3 breakdown vid, and you posted 5 mins ago. LEGEND
Watching a beautiful two man pick and roll game is a throwback to before the game got obsessed with 3's. These two guys are getting to know each other the way Duncan and Parker and Stockton and Malone knew each other.
I really love the way you break down every play and compare it to the previous play. It is like I am watching chess.
And this is before you realize that Jokic and Murray are playing 44 minutes each. To be able to do all that is incredible. To do it for long stretches is even more amazing. As long as they stay healthy, Jokic-Murray can be the most lethal duo in the NBA for a long time.
That clip at 7:31 where Jokic swipes the space where the pocket pass would go is the kind of detail I love this channel for
Its refreshing to see an NBA game where they play as a team
What a Marvelous Player is the Joker 🃏 is. Passing skill like Magic, Consistent Shooter like Nowitzki and rebounding ability like Moses. The Ultimate player.
No way to stop Jokic and Murray, just like there's no way to stop Ben from dropping bangers! Best NBA channel by far and just some of the best content out there
I dunno, ask the Lakers, they figured it out in Game 1.
Man, TB! I love the speed on these releases, must be a lot of work on you! And your basketball insight... it's so damn impressive!
And it's not like they're doing this in the first round or whatever, they're doing it in the FINALS. They remind me of the Bulls: hardened and molded by the playoffs disappointments, so that when they finally reach the Finals, they were more than ready.
Simply the best duo in the nba right now. I think Murray is showing these playoffs that he is a legitimate top 25 player in the league. Obviously cant just base on the playoffs, but how many top 25 nba players have done what Murray is doing in the playoffs? We questioned if Murrays run in the bubble was a fluke, and he is proving it wasn't. Even though Murray isnt a all star (yet) and can be inconsistent during the regular season, something has to be said for him rising to the biggest occcasions in the playoffs multiple times now. So i really think he should be considered a top 25 player in the nba.
I love these finals breakdowns really gives me an in depth look at what was happening. Thank you
As a Nuggets fan, I almost didn’t watch this one bc of the common title theme but what an awesome surprise that you highlighted their defense as the virtually unstoppable threat! Thank you!
This team is way more than a brilliant two-man offense with elite passing and scoring. Kudos on the awesome vids! ❤
Man your videos are so good dude. Massive props to you 👍👍
Great video. Found this channel a few months ago. Really interesting how you break down the plays and show the schemes. Keep it up! Nuggets in 5!
I've watched this video more than 3 times, thanks for the wonderful analysis thinking basketball ♥️🔥
Love the eye for detail breaking down the Denver defence. Their proactivity anticipating and consistently fighting to get over or through screens is really impressive
This is the best analysis YTC by far - I love this!
Imagine only 3 point that Denver score that they don’t assist on. That is just a amazing! What a duos!
Great breakdowns as always :)
what I see in the video is that Denver's switches are without any weak links: any player has decent skills and size to cover any Miami player
So clearly explained. Thank you so much!
If they keep this for 2 more years, this is the greatest offensive duo we have ever seen by far this is amazing
No, it isn't. Jokic is as good as anyone who's ever played. But Murray isn't the best sidekick of all time. Pippen, Kobe, Stockton or (not sure who's better) Malone, Dr. J when he was with Moses, the list goes on and on. Shoot, prime Klay (defensive versatility mixed with all time shooting) was better by far than Jamal, at least that's my opinion. Recency bias is a real phenomenon, young padawan.
@@wecanjump7512 I agree. Murray is good but Jokic could do better with a better player.
Of all time? Maybe because you’re a kid but Kobe and Shaq are better offensively and ofc defensively. Teams were having a stroke trying to stop Shaq and him easily averaging 35+ like it was nothing then there was Kobe who was dropped 30+ like the defense didn’t exist. One thing I dislike about the nba fanbase is how much of a slave to the moment some of them are.
@@VincentVincent_89 of all time is possible. Depends on how they play next year. These playoffs they have been one of a kind. You can't deny the first ever 30pt triple double by 2 players in one game ever. They need to do this kind of stuff for several more years, and Murray needs to up his scoring in the regular season.
Obviously their are better players then Murray all time and right now but his skillset compliments Jokics perfectly its hard to think of someone that could be a better sidekick for him currently
Even recovering from that injury, Jamal Murray plays an incredible game at an elite level.
Combining with Jokic's immense court vision and power, these two are literally unstoppable.
Seeing Gordon dunking it, while the Heat were all left standing around the key, really summed it up for me.
Feel like the Heat do better with the offense run through Bam instead of Jimmy. And the long twos and stalled possessions kill the Heat. And unfortunately for them, the JMurray and Jokic P&R is unstoppable.
Thanks! These Nuggets have the potential to be a special team. Nice to see so many good defensive possessions from Joker because I know people that called him one of the worst defenders in the league not too long ago...
Audibly laughed at yalls talk about Oedipus on the podcast. Keep it up!!!!
Top class analysis!!!
Thanks for the great analysis
I just love your analysis! For me as an absolute layman everything just happens way too fast. So pointing out what the players are doing off the ball is extremely helpful. And here in Europe it's usually the 10-minute-summary the next morning we watch where it's mostly the successful offense that's shown, sometimes good defense and rarely misses where you could see why. Thanks!
Also note that Gordon has played really well, there were some really great passes that put a lot of pressure on Miami. Gordon a great piece to supplement these two guys with his defense, rebound, bullyball and great passing.
Great video!
I don’t think so. Teams need a lot of help in the sense of the others on Denver not playing well to stand a chance beating these two on nights they’re both on.
Aaron Gordon pickup was huge for them in this era where teams are opting to play players that are more perimeter oriented instead of bigs. Miami right now really lacks the personnel needed to consistently negate that and that’s likely the case for most of the league in a 7 game series. Having to deal with those easy buckets on top of Murray cooking whoever is in front of him is ggs
That’s too many weapons 1-4 you got the dynamic duo , and super athletic Aaron Gordon and Christian Braun just outmuscling Miami. Sheesh. 🫡
Duh. Teams need good role players too, can't just be top two and thats it.
Another elite video Ben
I feel like Murray is slowly learning how to be more like Jokic in terms of field vision and passing. Overall, a truly scary duo
What a great game Braun had. His explosiveness on the offense and toughness on the defense helped Denver big time. Amazing young player, reminds me of Carushow somehow.
Think of how phenomenal Jokic is that the play that occurred at 2:06 (a one-legged runner/floater from ~12 feet with Bam Adebayo closing in) is described as "another easy shot"
He shoots those at a ridiculous +50% efficiency, unheard of since dirk
+60%
Love how you ended the video 😉 When I heard Jimmy's ending, I actually laughed out loud 😂
Nuggets playing truly beautiful all team basketball. Every game any player has a chance to shine. It’s absolutely unstoppable when everyone plays their part
"Its easy! Just make Jokic score and you win! Hurr durr!" 😂
People can be so ridiculous.
First, who has the roster that can lock up the other four? No one. You honestly think no ones tried playing them straight up? Because thats what you're saying.
Second, Jokic organically turned into a scorer those losses because he was intentionally trying to will his team back into the game. It wasnt some magical adjustment, its people who dont know ball looking at stat sheets instead of the game.
Third, Nuggets are the picture of consistency in fact Id argue their two worst games were the first two of the finals and Heat barely managed to steal one by a single 3 pointer.
Fourth, its got nothing to do with home or away. They are GREAT regardless. Their losses came away from because those happened to be the games Book and ANT had historic games and Heat shot a miraculous 50% from three as a team.
Having Aaron Gordon as your dunker and Braun as your X factor is a cheat code. Too much power
The Nuggets already tell opponents to pick their poison in the playoffs. Sometimes it does work (see game 2 vs the Heat) but for the most part the Nuggets get past that and arrive at their win conditions like Jamal Murray on a scoring spree. Or when the Nuggets pick up their 3-ball shooting again (which is a scenario the Heat cannot afford to fight against). At the very least the Nuggets are making these mistakes and adjustment early in the series than in the middle/later part of the series and not showing they have an answer. Jokic and Murray as offensive forces are too persistent when it is still very clear the Heat don't have the bodies to match consistently and can only catch up in game with absurd shooting splits from 3 point land.
Excellent analysis again! This two man game is historically good
Truly an incredible duo who maximizes each others abilities, especially Jokic for Murray. Jamal is the perfect scorer to play off an elite playmaking and shooting big
Amazing. You can always find some energy to get a shot up or penetrate for a layup, but the level of fitness and will power it takes to play great defense from start to finish... that is dedication.
When your two best player can play point and can score😮
Outstanding analysis... few people ever give Denver enough credit for their D however that rookie is def going to change that narrative of the casuals... it just goes to show you that the BEST OFF production is sourced in excellent DEF... the 2nd chance points & rebounds don't just put points on the board in your favor each is a dbl whammy robbing the other team of its possessions & possible points at the same time... what we saw in game 3 is the TRUTH... Denver is the consensus #1 & miami is an #8 seed... I was illegally evicted from my home on Winona Ave in San Diego & have an Original Jurisdiction Case that is being obstructed at SCOTUS... so I was cheering on the Aztecs in the FF... it seems to me that miami is like SDSU in that they give 100% effort all the time & overachieve... just like in the FF tho at midnight it's time for cinderella to leave the party... the Blue Chippers at UConn were too smart talented big & high effort high character for SDSU to prevail... it seems to me the SAME fate has been crafted for miami... Denver is too smart, talented, big & at least in game 3 well Denver can play DEF & engage in a relentless high effort level of play in someone else's house too... problem is there is no cure for miami... they are simply outmatched & now Malone AND the Players have the Secret Formula for Miami's magic powers to victory cookbook... it's all over except for the crying... Sianara miami- you are NO MATCH for two players that make 30 triple dbls on the same floor on the same night!
The heat has been playing brilliantly, can't ask much more than that it is just that a very good nuggets display is enough.
Thinking basketball is so nice because it helps you notice things that flew over your head.
Ex: Murray and Braun’s defense was spectacular
M0r0n
As good as always I really become a fan of Christian Braun how rare can a rookie play so maturely and impact the game at all places his defense is outstanding he is decision making on offense is on point and he is such a force to the rim great cutter knows how to place himself on the court and he is really good in transition too because he runs so hard to the rim.
Can't wait for your game 4 video if the Heat manage to do just that, stop Jokic & Murray. Love the bevy of videos we get in the playoffs!!
Miami does defense as a team in a whole different level in the play offs. They are so honed in and its still not enough.
excellent fckng analysis👏
thanks for the upload
great game analysis
I couldn't believe what I was watching last night; the way that these two flow with each other in their halfcourt sets are just beautiful. I don't think I've ever seen a better offensive pairing that feed off of each other like that in NBA history
I don't see an unstoppable offensive juggernaut. I see a good team gets some good looks, but also hitting a lot of difficult, contested shots. I think that they are hitting way above the expected shooting percentage. Kudos to the coach for getting them prepared, and to the players for executing in the spotlight.
Miami had a great game 2 while Nuggets had tons of misscommunications some cold offence, and it was still a one-possession game. Murray and Jokic defence was superb this night and it will be interesting to see how Spo tries to limit their Stockton-Malone offence. Miami needs Butler to be more aggressive and their shooters need to be on point in order for them to have a chance

TB's breakdowns is more gameplay that whatever I've watched all season
The thing is, they could be even better if Murray passed the ball sooner in the pick n roll. A lot of the time he misses a wide open Jokic for a floater or just dribbles around too much then hands Jokic the ball in traffic with 2 seconds left on the shot clock.
That’s one of those things where you have to trust a great player’s feel for the game/situation. Are there times where it looks like the pocket pass or throw back pass is there for an open Jokic, but Murray shoots it? Yeah of course, but I’d argue it’s sometimes better to go against tendencies or the “perfect” play to bring uncertainty into the defense’s mind. Usually when Murray “misses” Jokic it’s during a ridiculous shot making stretch from Jamaal, so he rarely misses Joker and puts up a bad shot himself. (There aren’t many bad Murray shots at this point. It’s getting in the neighborhood of Steph level shotmaking).
What you're saying is they would be better if Murray never made mistakes. Duh.
@@nighthiker “make mistakes” he does it every other possession. Duh.

great analysis as always, but how did Lowry get away with that moving screen at 6:01?? 🤣

I hope that Murray can find that little bit of vision from Jokic. If two people are with you and another one with Jokic, there must be another teammate free! There were many occasions that Murray found himself trapped and he was just obsessed to find Jokic. In one or two plays he realized and passed to another person than Jokic and then it worked.
This team is growing little by little and I wish that they give us many more years of happiness!
