I watched zoids new century when I was a kid and loved it, the HMM kits are brilliant builds and the attention to detail from the source material is amazing. Shame zoids isn't really that popular, I would love to see a live action movie some day
I've lived in Japan many years, let me tell you: The HMM line is heavily supported by the Japanese and bootlegs are frowned upon. So I think HMMs will be safe as long as they retain the Zoids market in Japan. There will always be people who buy bootlegs. The problem is when these people start advocating a fake over the original. Where's the honor in that? Hobbies must be earned by the consumer the same way the people in Koto and Bandai are working hard to earn the trust from buyers.
I did buy a bootleg due to trying out my go at Gunpla/Zoids and painting so I rather use a bootleg in case I screw up instead of ruining a original one. Now I own to many originals, RIP my retirement savings.

Wow thanks for this info. I was enlightened. My feelings about zoids being not popular are mixed. Its sad but on the other hand im happy that we can still enjoy zoids on our own little community.
I always swap out my Kotobukiya zoids to bootleg during family gatherings. So my cousins and nephews can destroy them without hurting my heart and holiday spirit. It helps to maintain your family ties too.
I always thought the drop in popularity was in part due to the anime and Hasbro. I grew up in Europe with the Zoids2 line and managed to get some Zoids from the OER line and the UK line, and they were pretty popular. I remember reading about robostrux and the technozoids, these lines had a pretty good run but i think in the 2000s when Hasbro brought Zoids over to the US TOMY kinda dropped the ball with that one. The absence of the Battle story in the boxes led a lot of misunderstandings that you would still see years later with series like Zoids wild, people were so shocked to see people riding Zoids when it was a concept used in the battle story. i kinda had to put the Anime in it's own thing and stick to the battle story lore myself just to avoid all the confusion. I'm still praying Zoids makes a come back, seems that Tomy is back in full for e with the motorized kits for that new line can't wait to grab that Death Saurer. I really want to see Zoids back on top like 20 years ago.
Bootleg kits though had similar finish result, had 1 big issue : fitting issue I need 2 weeks rest from building 1 blade liger BT cuz to heal my wounded fingers from snapping them
I dislike people who say they hate a product because of a reason that can be easily fixed. But also downgrading them when they haven’t even had the chance to own them. Lol I know you’re in Philippines so there’s a bunch of BT available all around. But I respect your decisions to actually pay premium price. I’m in California and it’s hard to acquire gundams as it is, imagine Zoids. I buy zoids and I think they’re fairly priced just hard to acquire depending on the kit. But as to that compared to Bandai or Sentinel, zoids sits at a comfortable price point where modelers and fans are willing to pay knowing the grade of the kit.
At first I also thought HMMs were expensive, then I found out that high quality anime waifu figurines often cost double than the average medium sized zoid. Hell my friend has $400 in Canadian figurine but my gojulas which costs the same not only towers over his figurine but also outclassed it in the level of detail. His figurine btw was just a 1/6 girl in a swimsuit with some props and a nice base.
If i got the money to but a hmm, i will do it honestly , the only reason i bought murasame liger by supernova just because kotobukiya didn't make a hmm kit for it , but yeah im really looking forward to grab atleast one of those hmm kit
The upcoming Shadow Fox Marking Plus is around the same price as an MG Barbatos. I highly recommend it as a great starting piece given the generous amounts of metallic injection :)
I'm pretty sure Zoids could have hit it bigger if it had been marketed more for an adult audience. Zoids went for the kids while Gundam went for the adults. The Zoids anime originally aired in America first iirc too so it didn't get the jumpstart in Japan the same way Gundam did. I'm not fond of the price tag attached to Zoids HMM kits either, but I understand why they are the price they are. I can't wait for the Liger Zero X. That blue and gold armor scheme is sexy.
I agree. This is why I don't like it when people say that a Zoids anime should be about battles only. Gundam created a cult because their anime was well-produced making it a marketing juggernaut. IBO and the idea behind Barbatos is a good example.
@@omochareviews Exactly. And that story depth Gundam achieved is only possible because they targeted an older audience. Well, perhaps a kid focused audience could work well too, but after 5 different Zoids anime, clearly not.... If I could make a wish directly related to the anime world, it would be for a reboot of Chaotic Century that follows the Manga story line instead, is written for an adult audience, and obviously crisp modern high quality CGI and graphics. I'm not saying you NEED blood and stuff to make something adult, but how cool would it be to see oil and sparks ETC leak out of a Zoid's severed leg? How cool would it be to actually see the pilots that Raven killed die?
@@Alice_Haukea agree! Blood isn't necessary, TOMY can also just make the goals of the MC more mature instead of being an anime about the adventures of MC and friends. I think they were on the right direction of Genesis' plot, but the animation and marketing has to be like New Century Zero. A remake of either NCZ or CC would definitely create buzz.
It's interesting, we got NCZ before CC in the US even though CC was made first, I think the reception would have been very different if this had been reversed. NCZ wasn't terrible but the plot suffered because of marketing. Brad and Lena were usually sidelined, especially in the early episodes, to let Bit be the big hero. It wasn't bad for a kids show but it was dumbed down, and if it had come after CC it might have been hated like Fuzors. Honestly, I think NCZ started a trend of shallow gimmicks that, in my opinion, bring the series down. Of course you could also say it started with the organoids in CC, which are a mixed bag, the writers clearly struggled to fix making them too OP from the getgo, but the idea of small mascot zoids was good, but making them relevant without making them gimicky is tricky. The motorized Zoids are much better and have better quality plastic. And Zoids is still very popular. Koto started bringing the kits to the US for very good pricing and they are even popping up at American convention.
The quality might not be far superior than the bootleg, but, it is still superior both in plastic quality and building experience for sure. I think it's detail, size, and gimmicks are quite interesting. How do you see about it?
I won't get the Death Stinger bootleg because: 1. For its price, I can already buy another HMM Zoid kit. I think it's the same price as an LZ Empire so I'll use my funds there instead. 2. I already have a Hiltz and the regular DS (plan to paint it with the Ogre's color scheme) I'm waiting for a DS-ZS announcement of Koto to have a nice display of three 1/72 scorpions :) 3. Lastly, my ZA kits' joints are already sagging. The bootleg DS will eventually suffer that fate and I don't like the idea of fixing model kits when they can be avoided.
