I feel like with time more people are going to recognise the brilliance of this album. It's so sophisticated and inventive. Rosin Murphy is a true artist.

Queen Roisin does pop like this video. She does accessible and familiar and 'listenable' then the more you listen, and creeping up in the background some melody or a hook emerges which has a touch of darkness about it. And it reminds you of music and experiences you would never share your in-laws, or your kids, or your boss, but you would play them Roisin, and they would tap their feet, unaware that you are reminded of a night you wore leather and went to a bondage club at 4am, or ended up at a party, somewhere you were not really sure where it was or who invited you, but it was still going at 10pm the morning after, so you arrived at work, still on a buzz, drunk and mildly dissociated and told the boss to spank you. Happy days. She is a true artist.
Thank Christ the American music 'industry' hasn't got its gobs on everyone's plate. This is superb music. Roisin's a songwriter with an immense talent for clearing away the veneers.

My goodness. She is a genius. The number of emotions she displays throughout the video is astounding. Such a funky, upbeat song with a tear-jerking story behind it. I have binge-watched this video for a while now and I am having trouble describing why this...all of this...'works' for me. I recall Madonna's "Oh Father" video, thinking of how effective it was at telling a story. That one captured me, too, but this... the look on her face at every event she goes through is so perfectly true. If I didn't know she was acting, I would feel for her. Instead, I will just remain impressed...and smitten.

I must say, this song is a true masterpiece. Only Roisin could pull something like this off, she's a master of her own universe for sure. This song was released like 5 years ago and i not tired of listening to it every single day. The video is the icing on the cake. Beautifully produced and yet quirky. Cant get enough!

Where have I been, i listen to Róisín Murphy at work, we have an automated track player but cant access track listings. I never knew who was playing until I decided to Shazam one of her tunes. I was lucky enough to meet THE Roisin Murphy. It was after a gig in Feb 2016. I am still starstruck to be honest. not only is the music genius but the videos she makes too!! ☺☺☺☺☺😊😊😊😊
Her biggest gift is explaining something that is so unbelievably personal and prescriptive in a way that somehow you know deeply yourself. And then, just when you think you understand it, it warps chimerically right before your eyes and you aren't sure again. As a man I think of many of her lyrics as something seem to come from what would traditionally be considered a "male perspective", which makes this video even more impressive because of all the feminine constructs in it that contrast it so much. What an artist.

It's so disheartening to me that an artist this authentic, while able to secure a major record deal (which is more than most of us can pull off), has still somehow not managed to penetrate a wider awareness. She's way better than mainstream acts people mistake for "artists" (like Stefani Germanotta) but also more interesting than somewhat similiar "edgy" acts like Alison Goldfrapp, that get a lot more attention. Murphy is long overdue for gigantic acclaim, in my opinion.
Not to mention a unique voice. Fantastic tone. She's a great singer.

+Diana Rosa From all pop artists you had to compare her to lady gaga, probably one of the very few pop acts who can go through many genres and mix and match different styles while having an wide audience.
oh but with Goldfrapp.. she's talented as hell (google up Utopia live and her latest Tales of Us is very good too), imo they simply both do a bit different stuff and totally get why you'd prefer either. btw I think Gaga is very talented too - another thing is what she actually does with her talent. I like some of her stuff and some I find horrible.

Art direction makes me think of 10cc's "How Dare You" album cover which I believe was done by the wonderful Hypnosis design group.

La que fuera cantante de Moloko se ha tomado su tiempo para lanzar un nuevo disco. En los últimos años se había dedicado a publicar en pequeño formato canciones que eran tributo a la música house y versiones electrónicas del pop italiano. "Hairless toys" es un disco curioso en su concepción y los ritmos rotos que incorpora. Se trata de un disco que no dejará indiferente. Es arriesgado por lo que tiene de experimental y de pop conceptual, así que la escucha no es fácil. Tienes que hacerlo muy abierto de orejas, así conseguirás que temas como "Evil eyes", "Exploitation" o "Gone fishing" no te dejen sentado en su primera escucha, porque en realidad estamos ante un disco de baile. Sí de melodías deconstruidas, pero de ritmos electrónicos creados para avanzar a pasos agigantados y por encima de todo ello la hermosa voz de Roisin Murphy.
