      @gera2396 Are you talking about rifle calibers? I’ll try the cans out on shorter barrels but that will erode the baffles prematurely and isn’t advised. For pistol calibers I haven’t found any adverse effects of utilizing shorter barrels.

  • @kcamroccamian
    @kcamroccamian 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

    How strictly do you think I should take the 16" minimum barrel length for 5.56 on the R9? Very tempted to run it on my 12.5 with a brake as a sacrificial baffle. Don't care about voiding my warranty - just concerned about the can exploding.

    • @CalebDowning
      @CalebDowning  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I’d do that at your own risk. I don’t think the can is going to blow up but it’s not good for it. When using the R9 on a 5.56 gun, do you have to use the 1/2x28 direct thread mount or could you use a phantom QD flash hider? My main rifle is a 12.5 midlength, think it would be okay on that or am I pushing the barrel length restriction too much? Was thinking I could run the R9 in the meantime til I get a Turbo T3. My main reason for getting the R9 would be for PCC's.

    • @CalebDowning
      @CalebDowning  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You could run the R9 on a Phantom mount. If you were going to do it then it try and run the brake as the muzzle device. That should help to save the baffles from the blast if the shorter barrel.
      So you could do it, but it wouldn’t be recommended(I would do it, just limit your use on it and don’t do mag dumps).

    I’m relatively new to the NFA world, i have one can that I’ve had for about two years. I chose to do a form 1 just because i like to make my own stuff, i wanted it to be a do all can. It’s cool that i can pop a booster in it and run it on a pistol or swap to a plan b adapter and run it on my rifles but it’s a pita waiting for stuff to cool enough to swap it out at the range.
    I really need a dedicated 5.56 can, if budget wasn’t a thing what would you pick for a dedicated 5.56 can and if you’re tight on money what’s a good option?

    • @CalebDowning
      @CalebDowning  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Making your own can is a great way to learn about them and see what works and doesn’t work. So kudos to you for putting in the time and effort to do it 🤙
      For a dedicated 5.56 can… If budget wasn’t an issue then I’d be torn between the Dead Air Sierra-5 and the YHM Turbo T3. If budget was an issue then I’d just go for the YHM Turbo T3 or even their new Turbo K with the lower backpressure baffle design.
      I’ve heard some folks have had problems with the Sierra-5 but I haven’t had any problems with mine.
      There are a lot of good 5.56 cans out there and most will sound indistinguishable from each other. I would advise you look into the different mount options and see what kind of muzzle devices you like. Then find a can that best fits your needs and works with that mounting system. I know that sounds like “judging a book by its cover” but it really is try that most cans will do that same as their competitors will.

      @@CalebDowning well i saw all the stuff coming in the form 1 world and figured i better get after it before they make it impossible to do unless you have access to lathes/mills. But yeah it was a cool experience just going through the application process and studying to figure out how i wanted to set up my baffles. I’m honestly pretty happy with it i just kinda wish i wouldn’t of went for a “do all” can and just did a 5.56 can off the bat. I mostly shoot 5.56 guns and feel like better performance there would be more ideal. It was cool none the less though and thanks!
      Yeah I’ve seen several people talking about the baffles basically disintegrating on the sierra 5 and something about some bad heat treat. I’ve been eyeballing the rugged razor 5.56,it seems like a pretty sweet can.
      I get what you mean,I’m heavily invested in plan b stuff so something that atleast has an adapter to work with the “hub” threads would be ideal. I really used to like yhm but it seems like now the prices aren’t as cheap,idk about the t3 i haven’t looked into it much but the old ones just didn’t seem as appealing. I’ve seen a bunch of people have issues with the mounts being out of spec and have problems trying to get things warrantied. I could always just pop my rearden atlas into it and use it on my plan B muzzle devices though. I’ll check out the t3, thanks for the response man!

    Quick questions….. you have done a lot with YHM, the R9 and the Resonator K are basically the same can, the only difference I have read is the first baffle in the RESK is inconel, the inside baffles diameter on the Resk and R9 are the same at .390, the muzzle caps are different…. YHM can’t put the inconel baffle in the R9 and give it the same barrel rating as the Res K, They could make one can capable shooting 9mm, 762.x39 and 556 out of a few 10’inch barrel with hub threads. It would be a universal can, that’s small, light weight and DOSE NOT cost 1000 dollars. Why don’t they do this they already make every part. The more I research this buying a suppressor stuff, starting to see a trend. Don’t build one that’s good all round let’s one that’s good this and one that’s good that. It’s kind of a gimmick. Can you help me understand why the companies can build a can that shoot AR-15 10 inch barrel pressure, it can’t also shoot a 9mm???

They already have the cmc measurement and equipment from the R9 can. It just seem like a gimmick to me to sale more cans. And YHM is not the only company. Look at the omega 36 m at 1100+’dollars….YHM could smash that price! At 600 dollars, what the current price of the RES K is.

    • @CalebDowning
      @CalebDowning  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I can fully appreciate your confusion on this point. When I started out buying suppressors, I thought the same way. My first can was a Huntertown Arms Kestrel 7.62 AK. Basically it was a user serviceable 30 caliber suppressor that was bored out large enough to handle 9mm. So it was a do-all can for anything 9mm and below including 22lr. I thought I had struck gold. Then I shot it… 😂
      It would handle pretty much anything I threw at it but it was loud, gassy, heavy, and threw quite the massive fireballs. Now that I have caliber specific suppressors I can understand why universal cans aren’t generally the way to go. There is actual science that goes into designing a suppressor to handle the high pressures of a 30-06 and one that handle lower pressure 45 ACP. You can get cans that do almost everything but you really won’t be that happy with them when it’s all said and done.
      If I was to do it all again, I’d get a 22lr and 30 cal suppressor to start. After that I’d go with a 9mm can followed by a 5.56.

      That sounds close… like you said the R9 is about 1.56” in diameter so it’s not going to fit under a 1.5” handguard. If you installed a YHM Phantom QD muzzle device (or even the Phantom mini) and then used their Phantom QD adapted, you should have the clearance you need to mount everything up.

      I have Witt Machine cans (.223, 9mm and .45) direct thread and a R9 and others. Bear in mind I'm a SOT, so less of a thing for me, quicker, easier to get. If I was buying one or another its hands down the R9. I've put a Witt Machine .45 can on a 10 inch AR10 .308 and it thankfully saved the day as a friend thought his rifle wasn't annoying with a muzzle brake only. Still tons of flash and report was likely pulled back by 30-40%. I keep a Witt Machine 9mm can permanently attached to my Extar EP9 SBR, shooting subs sounds fair and it looks pretty darn good honestly. The .223 can I have on a 10" AR Pistol build, still far from quiet but once again better than nothing at all and it will just stay there. I'm going to demo my Witt .45 can soon on a Ruger 7.62 x39 bolt gun for fun. If I was buying them and paying for stamps, I would get the 9mm can but comparing the R9 to the Witt, once again hands down the R9 wins all around for all categories of use. There just isn't a better deal, flexibility offered, unless you get the R45 if you need that diameter. Bear in mind the R9 isn't a great pistol can, it can do it but its heavy. It really shines on PCCs and Rifles. Also, I've shot Witt .45 on a High Point Carbine .45 and it isn't too bad with a longer barrel, still I'm wearing ear pro. I'm retired military, VA "hearing aids", so I'm trying to keep what I have left.

      @divinegracehealing8653 Thanks for the insight! I'm leaning towards the R45 primarily for a 45-70. I'm sure it will work well enough to run on the CZ Scorpion. I'm just not sure how it will perform on with 8.6 BLK. I know subs will be fine. Curious what pressures supersonic loads will produce. I assume if it can handle 45-70 it should be sufficient...but again, I'm guessing.

      @@k9gustoff At suppress Fest my 1st stop was the YHM booth as I was on a mission to demo the R45. Anyway, they didn't have one out, stated he might put one out later, didn't happen. So, immediately my intuition says, they don't want to compare "side by side" 9mm subs on SBR PCCs between R9/R45 with a 1,000 shooters in attendance. I have a Thompson Machine SG5, Big Monocore Can tri-lug for my UZI and CZ Skorpion and its crazy quiet on those platforms. I can't speak to those calibers you mentioned, don't own them, but I'm sure you will be pleased on a 9mm for sure. Hey, if you live in Florida, close to Tampa I would gladly let you throw the Witt Machine on your .45-70 for shits and giggles.

      @divinegracehealing8653 I appreciate the invite. If I still lived in Jacksonville, I'd take you up on the offer. I'm a few miles too far out of range to make that drive now.

    Thanks for the comparison videos. It helps all of us make good choices when we can’t get our hands on all these cans.

      I’m glad I’m able to do this kind of work and give folks my opinion(for what that’s worth). Thanks for letting me know your getting something out of all this 😎👊🏻

    How did R45 work on the 45-70? If you had to choose between R45 vs Primal? And knowing that 45-70 is in the mix.

    • @CalebDowning
      @CalebDowning  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The Primal is going to sound better on the 45-70. It’s just a fact, the larger volume puts the Primal over the R45 for the 45-70.
      I haven’t shot both cans side by side, perhaps that’s something I can do down the road. The R45 did a great job, don’t get me wrong. And it’s a couple hundred dollars cheaper 🤷‍♂️ Either one would work well.

      @CalebDowning Thank you very much. I was leaning more towards primal, then you made a video on the R45, and I thought it was a sweet deal. So I'll get the Promal first, then R45. Thanks for your help, as always.

      Sounds like a good plan 🤙 Always glad to help 😁
      The Primal is still the best sounding 45ACP can that I’ve used to date.

    If mainly for mp5 clone would you recommend the 9 or 45?? Or cgs mod 9sk i can get that for $565 plus a free tax stamp at my lgs. The 9 i can get for $420 plus $50 transfer plus $200 stamp $670. I read the blowback on the 9sk is bad. Not too many deals on the 45. If it were you which one? Thanks for any input!

      I’d stick with the R9 for dedicated 9mm PCC’s. The R45 may have less back pressure but it’s also larger.
      The CGS MOD9SK is a a really good looking can but it is not going to be as quiet as either the R9 or R45. I would recommend the 9SK as a dedicated handgun can but not so much a PCC can.
      Hopefully that helps.

      Helps confirm what I already knew thanks alot! I was just wanting that free tax stamp lol but Id rather spend an extra $100 and get the better can more beastly more versatile and basically made for pccs. I am new to the game and I can see alot of money spent on mounts and things and you can’t have just 1 can right lmao. These new wait times are sick so im jumping aboard and hoping for a 3 day approval myself. Take care caleb got yourself a subscriber here!

      @FirstNameLastName-sv1nn I totally understand man. That 9SK is actually my favorite dedicated pistol can given its size and weight, but it’s not the quietest.
      The RS9 from Resilient Suppressors is also a really good PCC can. Lower back pressure than the R9 and R45.
      Thanks for the subscription! 😎🤙

    I've shot, own and sold several R9's, great can for the money. I'm personally using mine at present with an AAC 51T mount on a SIG 556R rifle. I do have a tri-lug and pistol setup for it, most likely it will remain on the SIG and in time will get at least one R45 for some of my 9mm PCCs. I have a Silencer Co Omega 45K and I would agree there isn't a better deal "flexible" can at this price point than the R45. I did shoot the YHM .45 ACP pistol can on a 1911 it was nice, but its purely a pistol can "likely the one you were mentioning". I was just at Suppress Fest this past weekend and I shot a lot of different cans if you want to be frugal "smart" with your money buy one of these two, get a mount you like and just enjoy it. BTW, having an over bored can is less back pressure to your face with a semi-auto, so IMHO its better all around.
