I realize that Radio Shack did not always carry the stuff that would be considered to be "the best." That being said.. I really miss them... I found lots of workable tech and components there back in the day. Like many do they made some mis-calculations and did not do their due diligence and paid the ultimate price. The numbers naming convention made it easier to reference in the point of sale system at the cost of consumer confusion. Oh well time marches on and we must constantly adapt to change. It is crazy how some retailers were "it," numero uno, on top their game and king of the hill only to plummet into "obscurity"... LOL... one door closes and another opens.... not always for the same entity or person but none the less... Thanks for showcasing things of days gone by, Bark... you give them a second chance and people an opportunity obtain workable tech that is still functional without having to break the bank or simply take a chance on some unknown product.
Good stuff. And yeah ...even something i deem as a 2 dollar mic....can be mounted, eq'd and used pretty easily!
Radio shack used to get their mics made by shure, sennheiser, crown, AT and EV (i think). One of the first mics i ever owned was a radio shack 33-302. Good times!!
An omni mic shouldnt exhibit proximity effect so its doin its thang correctly!
It's that 2 dolla holla! I think i commented about the 33-1070 omni before on a video about a cheap Shure mic - the 1070 was made by Shure and very much resembles an RE-50 but sounds like an omni 57. Those are pretty good. I was kind of of obsessed with them for a minute and brought a few (had to try the different iterations - A, B, C, D with respectively decreasing ohmage) - I sold all but 1 that I will probably never use unless I want a really thin guitar sound with lots of room reflections. But Ratshack had some quality stuff and some clunkers, depending on who they had manufacture things.
Good stuff! 2 dolla hollaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
Just got one in the box, it's branded Optimus 33-3030, made in Philippines. I like the channel I'm keen to see what others are on here. Cheers.
Pretty big catalogue of videos! Highly appreciated
I have one of those! Bought it about 20 years ago! It actually sounds pretty decent for a crappy old mic, except the self-noise level is horrifying if you don't plug it into a good quality humbucker and preamp.
I've definitely heard worse
I spent SO much time and money at Radio Shack when I was a kid. By the end of high school, I was no longer such a big fan.
Yeah it got bad to say the least
I was a BIG Radio Shack fan in the 70's and 80's. By Y2K, they were crap.
Big time crap
Man, when you turned the eq off, the deficiencies became obvious. We have The Source up here now instead of Radio Shack. That a thing down where you are?
There is no source lol....I love Canadian stuff lol
Pretty sure this mic was made by Audio Technica in Taiwan.
interesting....
I don't know if its worth your time but I found a cardiovox cm-125 its meh to me (but I'm a moron lol). It was 30 bucks.
im also a moron, and all mics are worth my time
