This is the flywheel used in the video. www.vividracing.com/my-deal/daYMTsCG Finally worked a deal with the manufacturer and I'm working with VividRacing so they are offering 5% off (with code "daYMTsCG")... not much, but better than nothing :) if you end up ordering one, would appreciate if you used the link. You'll save a little lunch money and some proceeds will help support the channel :) If this flywheel isn’t for your specific car lmk and I’ll send you a new link
@@derktheterk Hey thank you so much! Now that I finally have a sponsor I'll be going over all of the parts and how-to's on the car :) Absolutely love the 981 Spyder. What spec is yours?
@@DasCayman It's a base Spyder, but it does have AC and stereo. Only real bummer is the sofa seats. I wish there was a carbon option for less than 20k!
Hey man, what’s the thing you brushed ur hand past at about 5:08 / 5:09. Attached to the gearbox is a circular piece that spins. It has a short black ‘rod’ attached to it, that u briefly touched. What is this part as my car is missing it, and can’t track it down anywhere!
Have you installed the weighted crankshaft pulley? Do you think that a 3 lb. pulley is going to make up for the 12 lb. removed? I would love to install a LWFW but I'm concerned that even with a balanced pulley the engine life will be significantly shortened. Your thoughts?
The shaft is supported by so many bearings in the engine that this would not matter. It’s not about counterbalancing on Porsches but rather soaking up resonant frequencies. I spoke with 4 name brand Porsche race shops in the USA - TPC, BBI, Sharkwerks, and DeMan and they all said engine is balanced from factory, doesn’t need a harmonic balancer and to enjoy the flywheel
@@DasCayman Thanks for taking the time to reply - thats a shame :( Keep doing the videos - I've got a 987.1 Cayman S over here in the UK and its great to see how well you pedal your 987.2 Spyder :)
You need a sprung centre clutch disc now. you didn't need one as the previous set up had DMF which took the shock. Now everything is fixed you gonna flog that fucker out real fast. Look at the kit BBI sells
I called BBI, Sharkwerks and TPC and asked about this... they all said stock clutch is OK. I too was nervous... but it's fine. Especially if you know how to drive manual very well. I pointed this out here. I think you'll enjoy! th-cam.com/video/o4peLanjAvk/w-d-xo.html

Just discovered your channel today. As an owner of a 981 Spyder.... you make me want to start modifying!! Keep up the good work!

Running a lighter flywheel actually reduces stress on these cranks because the tail is very long there is less weight wobbling about.
Nice trick with the wrench when torquing the new flywheel.
Thank you!
great video man ! keep going !
Excellent! Even though I may never attempt to do this myself, I now know what goes into it and admire the engineering. Thanks!
Happy to share. There aren't that many videos that go into it....
Definitely diserves a SUPER THANKS !
Thank you! Wish I had this so I don't mind paying it forward.
Thank you.
Don't have a porsche. Watched the whole thing.
Good Job!

Thanks for sharing - I would for my 2005 Boxster S but alas I am too scared to take out the transmission myself.
You can do it!
Big like on this vid. But hey ? why not include a before and after of the cars ability to rev? Seems like a missed oportunity?
Just wanted to keep it focused on the install. I have an impression video here th-cam.com/video/o4peLanjAvk/w-d-xo.htmlsi=jEEL0vl_9sQTZx8A

How is the noise and vibration when you did the clutch at a stand still?

Awesome video! Can I ask what settings do you run on the PSS9's on the road?
Some volume hitch with the narration of rear install section, unfortunately. Thanks for the guide!
Yeah... growing pains of shooting and filming for the first time. The mic I use now is incredible and reliable.
Love your videos :)
Did you fit a harmonically dampened under drive pulley too?
Unfortunately there are no harmonically damped pulleys for the 9A1 DFI engine. Only for the non dfi engine

Love it man..
Planning to do the same on my CS mk2.
The LW flightwheel is still dual mass?
It’s a single mass flywheel. And thanks for the comment! I’d do this mod every time… I really don’t see a downside to it
May i ask you which brand is you LW flywheel?
