Hooray fir you! This is what i was taught to do by my mum 50 odd years ago and its been working for me ever since. I use a heavyish tea towel and avoid pressing ribbing. I even - very gently- press man made fibres. Who needs all rge hassle if wet blocking? Lovely sweater too. Looks great.
You shouldn't move the iron around on the washcloth as it can distort. Instead, gently dab & lift with the iron, and let the area cool a little before moving the work.
My tip is start gentle with a quick press and remove technique. Repeat till the desired effect. It will flatten the cables if you go too hard, so go slow and easy does it.
Um I need this sweater! Wheres the pattern and the yarn? I'm gonna try this method for blocking. The sweater I have needs to be seamed together. I'm gonna assume I have to block before seaming it together?
I never thought to block this way... I used the actual steam from the iron and it took *forever*! I'm going to try this today! Thank you!
Awesome! I'm glad it could help!!!
Your sweater is so pretty!
Thank you!
Yay yoi finished it!! I LOVE this sweater and the colors your used. It looks great!!
Yes! Thank you! I do too!! Can't wait to wear it!!

My mum used to do this also and is now teaching me, just goes to show that some of the old techniques still work today 😊
Totally agree Nena! This is a cinch! Especially when you need it to go quickly.
They do Sarah!
I’m going to try this for some hexagon cardigans I’ve made. Thank you.
That's awesome! I can't wait to see how it goes! Make sure to share. =)
Thank you thank you thank you. I'm gonna try your way now🥳🥳🥳
Yes! It's totally worth trying out and seeing if you like it!

Good tip!
great video. Would you use the same blocking method on a sweater with cables?
Yes, absolutely. I have! I think it looks so crisp, but everyone has their own preferences.
@@lolodidit does it flatten the cables?

A blanket or afghan like this?
I suppose you could block it like this but it would be really cumbersome!

I would definitely block to size before seaming!
This pattern is floozy too by truly Myrtle.
I'm supposing the yarn is wool and not synthetic as that method would melt the yarn.
You’d be surprised. Steam blocking is considered the best method for acrylic yarn. I’d use a less hot setting though😊
This wool had nylon and it worked out great!
Yeah, good observation. Thank you!
