- Maria Callas, legendary American-born Greek soprano gave an unforgettable performance at the Paris Opéra in 1958. Now, we can see it in colour for the first time in newly restored and colourised footage directed and produced by Tom Volf.
'Callas - Paris 1958' (© Volf Prod. Composite Films) is showing in UK cinemas this November and December, with the next showing on 22 November in select Vue Cinemas.

I watched yesterday in a movie theater in Berlin. So beautiful to have this opotunity of aplauding a Maria Callas' performance ❤
1:55 - 2:15 - I have a have a soft spot for her soaring vocals and impeccable acting. I mean, I could say that about everything she ever did, but for some reason, this segment captured my attention, and it’s simplicity, but directness.
Voix inoubliable et son Casta Diva insurpassé! Mon test est de l'écouter les yeux fermés et l'on ressent toutes les émotions qu'elle fait passer dans son chant. Elle restera à jamais la Diva Assoluta.

For the record her eyeshadow was not this godawful almost cerulean blue. It was bateau brown by Alexandra de Markoff her go to color for warm tone evening gowns and her lipstick was Fith Avenue Red by Revlon. 💀 Why would someone colorize this and make it look like her makeup was done by Bubbles the Clown direct from Barnam and Bailey’s… it looks ridiculous.

I contacted VCA regarding this jewelry & regarding the earrings they shared that they were:
“…matching earrings embellished with two pear-shaped diamonds from Sierra Leone with a total weight of 50.61 carats, evidently cut from the same stone.” (Cognac colored)

I think this is a great idea, because so many people won’t watch black and white footage. I like B&W, though. It adds to the ambiance, IMO.
I wish there were films of her when she was vocally in her prime, before she lost all that weight. The voice was never the same afterwards.

I agree with you. Not to say she didn't have blue eyeshadow but it's a bit over the top. The whites of the eyes look over done too tbh. Skin tone as well but I can appreciate the work that went into it.

I'm from South Africa and it actually shows at Ster Kinekor Cinema Nouveau at the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town. But this won't show in mainstream theaters, only this one cinema that is famous for more arty movies@@DimitrisSartzetakis

He's produced the restoration. Not the original. As it says in the description.
There were 3 hs material, he edited in a 90 minutes movie and computer colorize it. So its kind of directing... the colours are too vivid for my taste but its a great thing.

I would like to see the original mmore than 3 hours black and white original TV broadcast!! I dont care about this almost cartoonized colorization!! Its shame!! And also its time to give us new material of Calllas instead of the same and the same!! They still try to found out ways to make money from Callas!! This is disgusting!! Wolf is not care about Callas, but about his pocket!!

This is a very poor colorization attempt and far too saturated. You could achieve better results in Paint.

Avec tout le respect pour les artistes qui y figurent, en effet, c'est moche, on dirait que les couleurs ont viré comme elles le font dans certains films des années 50. C'est juste un moyen de nous vendre une fois de plus les mêmes archives déjà amorties en microsillon, CD, VHS, DVD.
