To be noticed, Petri Walli was head of the band, Singer AND guitarist. He also played with totally ownkind of style, where he played "both" guitars with one guitar. And actually he REALLY had only one guitar. Even in gigs. He only had one les paul and if string were broken, drummer (Sami Kuoppamaeki) just had to play solo with drums, so that Petri got his string changed. Kuoppamaeki has later told that "sometimes it seemed that Petri liked my solos so much that he was slow by purpose changing his string. :) Petri Walli was genious. He just played with too much acid, and hanged out too much with Finnish occultists, like Ior Bock. That is story of its own that Petri actually never totally shared with his bandmates. To be honest I have always seemed something similar amongst Petri Walli and Syd Barrel...
Ior Bock was a gay and prone to sexual harrassing, luring to bed and raping young men which later came to his demise. He could have had his effect on Petri´s depression. Imagine thinking of going to lighten your soul on spiritual acid/drugs session and instead of spiritual wakening, waking up next to nude Ior.

Finnish musician Sakari Kukko is not member of the band, but plays sax and clarinet on some of their songs. Kukko is probably most renowned of his ethnic/jazz/progressive rock band Piirpauke, but to my knowledge he came via Amorphis, as he plays sax and flute on some of their albums.
What, someone actually reacting to Kingston Wall? Awesome! I've been asking this other youtuber to do it, didn't know you had. KW is such a significant band for many of us here in Finland both as an influence as well as emotionally. I can't tell you how much I appreciate this! Thank you.
This video just popped on my screen. Awesome to see people getting into Kingston Walls music and I hope that we can spread the word even further. BTW, the sax you are hearing is played by Sakari Kukko. That dude is a master of many instruments.
Oh wow. Someone outside Finland listen Kingston. That song is the beautiest song for me ever. I actually didn't liked Kingston at first. But now IT has been my alla time favorite band 20 years
After 4 years you have done this reaction of Kingston Wall i found this and i salute you my good man! You helped to spread music of KW❤ it's quite sad that band wasnt ever so popular than it was after Petri Walli's death...but music still lives on! I saw JJylli & Sami (Kuoppis) Kuoppamäki plays music of Kingston Wall with friends at in Kuopiorock one week ago. There was Mikko Von Hertzen (they are by the way brilliant musicians, Von Hertzen Brothers) and Esa Holopainen (Amorphis, wich Petri had a plan to do something together), just for few to mention. Petri Walli wasnt only a head of the band, songwriter, guitarist and singer...he was also a producer of KW, they had their own record label called Trinity and there is producer called Pedro Cucaracha wich was Petri. Thank you and greetings from Finland!
They are incredible. Sadly no longer with us as the lead singer, guitarist and songwriter committed suicide, but the great albums. I have them. All, brilliant.
This is my all time favorite from this incredible band that had it´s candle blown much too soon. Had a privilege to see the Kingston Wall Experience gig in rockfest thursday of 2019 in Hyvinkää Finland. It was collaberation of living memebers of KW Jukka Jylli and Sami Kuoppamäki (Propably the best backbone for a rock band in history of music) and good friends of Petri, Von Herzen Brothers band. Propably the closest experience to KW live you can ever get. It sure was magical evening, even though it wasn´t the real deal but good damn it worked.
All three albums are masterpieces , my favorite is no 3. but all are still equally just brilliant😂 I found them when I was late teens just after Petri died😢 Fell in love this band immediately.
One of the best, or the very best, bands from Finland ever. R.I.P Pete Walli! You should absolutely get the whole trilogy as vinyl and in addition to that the Real Live Thing 5 LP live box set. Must have release!
Kingston Wall is my favourite band. That LP was released in 2015. I have the first press version that is still unopened. I don't have an vinyl player but someday I will buy one and this will be the first LP I will lksten to.
This song from superb album is one of my all time favourites. As knowing your great taste of music i knew you would like it too. Thanks for reaction, there's not too many!
Lol, Hidria Spacefolk guitarist is my cousin.. it is a small country and small circles.. And Circle is definitely one band worth to listen ;) Without Kingston Wall there would be no Hidria Spacefolk that is 100% certain as Kingston Wall opened the doors for Finnish psychedelic rock. And who can forget Wigwam, Tasavallan Presidentti and Piirpauke, the latter is Hasse Walli's band, brother of Petri Walli. Their song Konevitsan Kellot is HUGE influence on all of us in that space and can be heard in many, many Kinston Wall songs, this being one of them. The use of saxophone can be traced to those three bands from the 70s i mentioned.
Im from Finland. Kingston Wall is like the greatest musicians in the whole world to me at least. Especially Sami Kuoppamäki in drums and Jukka Jylli in Bass. My mother used to know them and I've been many times with them but I was little that I don't remember.
Hi man. Nice video. Very cool for you to make video about this band. In Finland they were quite big thing in their time and now they are like one of legends of rock in Finland. There are band called Von Hertzen Brothers who do music nowdays where plays the same drummer than in Kingston Wall with m and their sound are influenced much by them. I encourage to try to listen them too. Nice video man.
Great to see youre back. I have this 19 minutes masterpiece of request. sound of contact - mobius slip. I know you are busy but really Hope you Will do this one in the near future. Leadsinger is Simon Collins, yep the son of Phil. And Simon sings and dont get chocked, he plays the drums also in this band🤣
To be clear. Kingston Wall is the "pink floyd" of finnish rocker´s. Jimi Hendrix and Pink Floyd where like gods to Walli and that can really be heard on his music! There is also atleast two books from band and Petri Walli. Just listening other "Wiljami Puustinen - Petri Walli saga from Nextrory. (Soundbook).
Very surprised you didn't know about this band. I've been listening to them for years and always assumed they were quite known back in the day. Two further recommendations from them: 1) For All Mankind 2) And It's All Happening
Hey Jimbo, long time no see! Been away from the Internet for a few months and I've been missing your infectious smile and that thing you do with your fingers. I have a suggestion for you: Brand X. It's a jazz fusion band formed in the mid '70s and notably featuring Phil Collins on the drums on their early albums. I only know the first one, 1976's Unorthodox Behaviour, but I think it might interest you. I suggest the album opener Nuclear Burn, the title track or Smacks of Euphoric Hysteria, but really the whole album is solid.
These guys were 24 yrs khen they wrote this song. I saw them 4 times, first time at tavastia, before their debut (freakout club) second time at ll-album tour, 2 times at trilogy tour. Heres live one of this song, i was at audience trying to hook with girl. Sax man is legendary Sakari Kukko, who visited lots of their projects m.th-cam.com/video/0DQ5LRmT9f0/w-d-xo.html
you have got an excellent taste of music it makes me so happy I usually don't offer music to the reactor, but I think you are different so try something different and interesting (the black noodle project - a purple memory ) they are very different hope you see this cm love from Iran ;)
Heya Jim, great channels like this keep me sane :-) Lie back with that volume turned up and have a listen to the remastered version of "Scream In Blue" by Midnight Oil. It's something a bit different. Be interested to see what you think. Thanks and keep the good work coming.
The band had only three players. Basist, Singer guitarist and drummer. Outcluding sax that was played by someone I dont rememeber right now. But virally in band there were only threee players. They just had been noticed in America etc. when Petri killed himself. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Petri_Walli
You really should try also songs like Kingston Wall´s - Could it be so. Weird thing is that they made three albums. Kingston Wall I, II and Tri-Logy. Petri sings in first album kinda "when trilogy is ready its my time to go". Well tri-logy where made and he killed himeself. He openly made godlike persons the rockers who had died young at the top of their world.
There’s another band that sounds a bit like the Ozric Tentacles: Quantum Fantay. Again, I like this a lot. The guitar solo could be out of a live concert of Grobschnitt, a German Krautrock band. I can definitely recommend two albums: Solar Music Live, Rockpommel’s land. The first one is probably on TH-cam. You have t endure a bit of nonsense at the start but the music is wonderful.
Hi Jim, greetings from freezing Finland. Kingston Wall is one to listen. They actually made a tour (well not with the all original members) couple years ago. If I may give you a recommendation about Finnish bands... it would be this: Wigwam. It's long gone but music lives for ever and this is my favorite from them: th-cam.com/video/gL7AqYop2a4/w-d-xo.html
Petri Walli was into trance music, so probably that record was kinda homage to him. I know some guys who were involved in that project, but I’ve never asked them about it. ✌️
I saw Kingston Wall over 20 times in the 90s. They were the best live band I have ever seen.
i was too young to see them live. Found them in my early 20`s in some 2000 or something. Love all the 3 albums and now i need a joint PERKELE.
It's 25 years since Petri Walli took his life. Still makes me sad.
Petri Walli was a a singer/quitarist/songwriter in Kingston Wall.
That was so good my neighbours lit up a joint.
Everything from the band is amazing. Best band never known.
I recommed Real live thing 5lp on vinyl.. 😎
Shivers!
Yeah this song is absolutely one of most beautiful songs ever made in this type of music
It’s fab, isn’t it?
Very nice.
That was nice...and new to me! Thanks for sharing Jim. I never would have heard these guys without this channel....
Pete Walli was superb in the gigs. RIP.
To be noticed, Petri Walli was head of the band, Singer AND guitarist. He also played with totally ownkind of style, where he played "both" guitars with one guitar. Beautiful piece of music... makes me wanna grab a guitar and compose something of my own. Thanks for this unexpected inspiration Jim!
Been listening Kingston Wall since 1993 and it is still one of the best bands ever...

Got their albums when I was living in Helsinki in 2000, not met anyone who has heard of them since I left Finland.
I lived in Finland for 11 years and never heard of this band before now ! great song !
They are incredible. Sadly no longer with us as the lead singer, guitarist and songwriter committed suicide, but the great albums. I have them. All, brilliant.
@@JimNewstead Check out that sax player´s legendary band "Piirpauke" he formed that with Petri Walli´s big brother Hasse Walli.
I was lucky to see them live a few times as a teen, it totally blew me away..
Cool stuff! Gave me some Hendrix with the guitar
Excellent, Jim! Never heard of these guys.... enjoyed it! Keep up with the "new" groups :)
Watering eyes..every time.
BTW! The drummer. Sami Kuoppamaeki (Sami Kuoppamäki in Finnish letters) is, to be honest, one of the best drummers i know.
Amazing track. The kind of underrated song you're really proud to show to others
Totally :)
Shine On Me really is a masterpiece
Reminds me of another short-lived band, Black Sun Ensemble, similar guitar tone and sax really atmospheric

Awesome song, most important for me

KW was brilliant. Too bad about the guitaist/singer. The dude had serious chops and the songs had depth and character, The superband that never was.

Prog rock maybe closest genre but that doesnt really capture their genre
Great find Jim. Thought I had one of their records but...now I will download this one. Thanks again.
I went on iTunes and found that someone created a 2001 album of remixes from Kingston Wall, "Freakout Remixes".
Petri Walli was into trance music,
so probably that record was kinda
homage to him.
I know some guys who were involved

them about it. ✌️
