- Dapat nga bang lagyan ng bike lanes sa EDSA?! Can you imagine a Metro Manila, or better yet, a Philippines conducive to cycling? Bakit nga ba mahalagang bigyan ng space ang mga bike commuters? Bakit hindi na lang sila sa side streets?
I went around EDSA myself on a bike to know the answers. Went from Quezon City to Pasig to Taguig, and passed through a portion of EDSA on the way back.
Because of the #COVID19 crisis, public transportation in the Philippines has been severely limited leaving thousands left to search for ways to reach work.
Aside from biking being eco-friendly, it is also one of the cheapest ways to get around town. My realizations and more in this video. - บันเทิง

I've been riding my bike to work for the last 5 years. It's a sustainable mode of transportation. And indeed people starting to realize today. It's a sacrifice and it takes alot of your time and energy. I enjoy it and it's a supplement for my triathlon training. I get stronger and get more savings to spend on my triathlon gear. It's a win win!!! Burn fats not gas!!!

Nakikita kita lagi sa tv sa UKG I'm also a biker (bike to work) for almost 7 years. dahil sa nakita ko sa pagbibigay mo ng bike to the 2 minimum wage earner employees humanga ako sa kabutihan nyo mam at mula ngayon subscriber nyo na ako.

Hi po Ms. Gretchen, and would really glad to watch your vlog at this point in time. I used to bike before pero sa loob lang ng subdivision. I have friends who are advocates of bike to work scheme. It is a very noble job for you po maam to give out bikes to our hard-working employees. True enough that biking is really healthy for most people. This time of COVID-19 pandemic and with the current situation nowadays, people have resorted to consider options like biking. Allow me to point some matters which are not really coming from an ordinary person like me. Im not a road safety expert nor a bike enthusiast as well, but there are things to consider before having this in our country. First and foremost, there is an ineffective mass transport here in NCR, I used to travel 3 hrs going to the office and another dreadful 3 hrs going home. I live in Caloocan and have worked before in BGC. EDSA, is not built to have a bike lane, because it is considered a highway and one of the main thoroughfares here in the metropolis. it was technically called "AH 26" or Asian Highway 26 years back then. Kung titignan nyo sa mapa, nkreverse letter C sya. Why? because it was suppose to function as a Circumferential road just like ung mga C-5, C-3 etc ngayon. I am not totally in favor of the MMDA project na magkaron ng bike lane ang EDSA because drivers are not equipped to behave like there is a "bike lane" in it. HIndi porket gumana sa ibang bansa ay gagana sa tin. Take a look at London, they have a dedicated bike lane pero mataas pa din ang incident ng disgrasya ng mga bikes and vehicles. So if you could just imagine a first world country having its top notch safety (or kung hindi man talaga) protocols eh tayo pa kaya. So I think, MMDA should change their mindset and not dwell on palliative solutions. So ano ung long term? establish an effective mass transit so that people can easily connect to their workplaces at hindi ung mgbibike ka ng kilo kilometro na hindi naman lahat ng tao seklista at sanay mgbike ng ganon kalayo. Secondly, establish a more rigid safetyt measure para hindi ngtatagal ung mga bus na nkhinto sa pag hakot ng pasahero at dahil hindi lahat maayos magmaneho. Third, changing lane priority for each type of vehicles (cars, PUJs, etc) every now and then is not always a better solution, even Jun Palafox a well-known urban planner does not even recommend this scheme. Sasabihin ng MMDA "kaya nga po humahanap kami ng paraan para maiwasan ang disgrasya", well, ngkakaron lalo ng disgrasya kasi kung ano ang lalim ng problema temporary solution lagi ang katapat. Again EDSA is EDSA, its a highway and it has a speed limit both minimum and maximum. Kahit hindi ako driver, ang maliit na sasakyan ay mananatiling maliit at ang malaki madalas ngbebehave na maliit na sasakyan which is mali. Lets admit it, that traffic in EDSA originates and leads to a deeper problem. This is just my opinion kasi commuter din ako. Maraming Salamat po

I started riding a bike from Taytay to Makati. It's really scary. Parang kahit nasa gilid ka na, may tendency ka pa rin na maside sweep ng mga sasakyan.

Been riding close to a year for leisure and work out na din. I ride at least twice a week to Alabang before ngayon daily na. Even now when riding in highways nakakatakot pa din. Sana malagyan na ng dedicated bike lanes.

Ganun talaga. Highway 54 ang EDSA at para talaga sa mabilisang transportasyon. Habang ang mga bisikleta, kahit payagan pa tayo sa EDSA wala naman tayong brake/turn/hazard lights, walang busina, walang side mirror, at mabagal tayo. Hangga't walang nakalatag na bike lane sa EDSA, hindi tayo pwede mag-impose.

There are car owners, jeepney drivers and taxi drivers who think they own the road. They think they are more entitled to use the road than bikers. I don't know but that mentality should be changed. It is high time that the government seriously do some re-tooling of our infrastructure. In this new normal, bike is the most cost efficient way of transportation as it will help ease the pollution but it promotes healthier living and work life balance for those who are biking to work. I was fortunate to meet you a few years back in one resto in QC and I hope to ride with you or see you on the road.
