@@carsonholtorf8233 I haven’t driven mine on the street yet just picked it up before winter, however they are meant for street an trail so I’d assume town driving is fine. I’m not sure about the highway or anything though. Although 2 strokes are meant for high rpm riding.
Very nice. In my day had gt 80. Dt 100. Dt 125. Dt 175. Dt 250. Dt 360. Dt 400. Road all of them off road but took very good care of them. They were the best enduro bikes going.
BEST Damm Decade of MY Life! Ahhh...Gerritsen Beach & Gravesend Bklyn! That Intoxicating 2 Stroke Smell! & Sound! Life WAS SOOO Darn Good! & Simple! Fond memories! God Bless 😊😊😊
I was stationed at Fort Carson Colorado 1979, I had one of these that I bought from a Sgt that was shipping out to Germany. The bike gave me Tons of Fun around Ft Carson and all over the Garden of the Gods, Creeple Creek, Canon city for over two years. It is a sweet ride. Too bad I can't ride no more.
Those were the days, they don’t make them ole bikes no more. Love that frame paint too, just an awesome bike. Yamaha DT 250 1973 still my fav as well. Thanks for sharing Kaplan man. 😎🇺🇸✌🏽
Kaplan cycles may soon be New England's first and finest Stark Varga dealer. With 80hp and easy street legal ability.I believe they will change the dirt bike world like no other ever has.
I have had many bikes go through my garage over the years but this 75 DT250 and an all original 73 RD350 are the two that I can never let go. I still take the DT out trail riding forestry roads in North GA.
God bless you guys for continuing to restore these classic bikes. These two-stroke Yamaha Enduros are very familiar to me. I started out riding them in the dirt back in the mid-to-late seventies. My friend had a 175 and his brother had a 400. Great bikes, lots of fun. Then I got an IT250 and that was a blast, too.
My father used to pick me up from Nursery school on the same exact model. My favorite memories. Years later, i learned to ride on the very same bike...and today? I have four bikes...ALL because of my father....Odd how that works...
Stunning restoration! The Yamaha DT's are iconic motorbikes and were very popular. I have a nice original DT 175 that is so much fun and easy to ride. I collect and restore bikes and agree with the cost of labor, parts, ect. My '64 Honda 305 Dream restoration cost $5000 just for new paint and chrome! Glad to hear prices are high on these, but like you say it's a labor of love!
That’s a beauty! Thanks for these awesome videos of these classics. So nice to hear and see them. One of these days I’m going to take a ride to your place.
I have a 73 125 and it wasn’t running for problems 15 years when I found it. I traded my friend a vape for it, put some gas in and carb cleaner and it fired up after the third try. Insane
nice bike , l've rode the DT's since 1976 & still have 3 . 75 DT100B w/700 mile's - 75 DT250B w/6000 miles- 76 DT250C w/700 miles, all 3 are cherry & rider's .
Nice video and restoration. I had the same bike same year back in the day. Ha remember a bud riding on the back a couple of times and with the 1/2 shift I'd be riding a very long wheely . Bud would say hey with great concern , you know were just on one wheel...I'd snicker OOOh so we are !
My first new motorcycle was a 1979 DT175, I had more fun on that bike than any other I've ever owned. Years ago I was visiting friends in Oregon, I went to a Harley dealership and they were having a "Tent Sale" and there was a 1979 DT175, same color as the one I owned going for $1500, I stood there staring at it wondering...how the hell will I get this thing home, I didn't end up buying it but it was fun to see one after all those years.
Yea, had exactly same Enduro. These are great for off road trails, snow, anything really. And yep, had to buy two stroke oil for periodic filling the oil gas injection side tank. And simple to get parts for, local motorcycle salvage basically/ nearly gave me parts for free. Great japanese bike, that is exactly what anyone needs for simple on/ off road.
I have this exact bike!!! Same color mint condition not frame off resto but all original ❤ I like it better than modern dirtbikes! Have way more fun in my opinion.
Great video i just built one still need to do couple touches on chrome its 100% looks exactly same everything you said is true for me though took 2 years steady but covid slowed process of course and prices its passion of love its not something you do if you don't like or care about bikes and history of them and of course it reminds us of our younger days most memorable of times. I thought I could do it for profit but ended up taking second job to support my motorcycle parts habit. But i totally agree if you have storage and time to keep it up maintenance wise it is better than $ in account. This money i bring out my shed every morning bounces around the yard under trees as sun moves i move bikes just keep them in shade but they are cool to just own ride hear and there nothing major but you could of course. Cant let wheels sit in one spot to long if you want keep value or put on stand but what fun is that lol
I had more interest in this bike than chicks. I look back and cannot fathom it. I spent every penny I earned on jerseys, Bell full face , gloves boots. I have not changed. If I'm in, I am all in.
Dude this was my first bike but it was a 73 I got it for $75 from an impound yard Christmas in 2002 people were tripping at the track cuz I was keeping up with them on a bike that weighs twice as much😂
With the old stuff like bikes n cars you really have to consider your labor as love. Or a washout. You can't look as your labor as a income to get out of what you as a person has a passion in doing.
My bro n I are gonna have to make a visit up there. We live down here in the Poconos. We love your footage and bikes! I really miss my Husky CR 500. You got one hanging around? Maybe you can do a video on one. Mine was a 83. White blue and yella
similar year YZ had two brass /copper domes in the middle of the handlebars ,they had tyre valves on top by memory, were they a factory fitted item or was it something aftermarket ,it was a yz400 and i always curious what they were,oh it had two spark plugs also ,any help appreciated
I had a 300 mile DT250. Cleaned carbs, ran, set idle. Sounds weird 2 mins later. Magnets delaminate from rotor and tear up stator, case, seal and crankshaft/bearings. 1100 Worth of damage on a 300 dollar bike in 3 mins total.
This model is the king of the hill of the 70’s period DT’s. Prettiest version, smoothest idling of all the larger bore 2 strokes. The pinnacle of Yamaha Enduro line for that period. The larger bore 360 and 400 idled rougher and was not worth the extra cost. The 250 was the one.
Love this bike, my brother had a navy blue DT 175 when I was a kid in the mid 70's. Not sure the year. Love your channel and your inspirational thoughts that you frequently give. You inspired me to start a channel of my own. Check it out.
Freakin outstanding bike. I have a 74 125 I love it rack on the back low front fender sweet bikes . Do y’all take trade ins on the 70s Yamaha 2 strokes
Hi guys, can you put me in contact with Marcel? I’m from Australia and would love one of these bikes fully restored. What price did this fetch? Cheers Dav
Another great Deet.... Still can't wait to meet you guys.... I'll be back East again. We have sooo many bikes in common including the GS550ES.... mine was MINT in '87. Anway, a couple days after I got my '79 in the backyard th-cam.com/video/02qGRmrxaK4/w-d-xo.html ciao. C
So.... I started looking for DT videos again because mine comes home this weekend and I saw this one I forgot about! My DT 250F has been gone for 8 months... th-cam.com/video/vz7naEpg1Mc/w-d-xo.html Long story short I ended up getting a new factory (same size) piston and new swingarm bushings. Carbon is all blown out of the pipe and I also went down one in front so she should scat pretty good :)
I hate to say this but the labor is on you .....No way would anyone pay anyone 100 bucks an hour to do this sort of work..It's just not economically viable...I love these bikes....However, if i wanted one, Id have to do the resto myself....otherwise, why bother??
Today’s bikes are so damn ugly it’s painful for the most part. There are some really great looking bikes like the Yamaha T7 and T12, the Kawasaki ZRS series of bikes are another example of Motorcycles that actually look like Motorcycles. So many are just all angles and beaks that make you want to Puke though. This DT is Absolutely Gorgeous and I wish I had the extra $$$ to buy it and a matching 400 just like it.
Doing a 76 DT400 right now, love these style bikes
Is a DT400 okay for short distance road riding? Maybe going 40 miles at a time and riding through small towns?
@@carsonholtorf8233 I haven’t driven mine on the street yet just picked it up before winter, however they are meant for street an trail so I’d assume town driving is fine. I’m not sure about the highway or anything though. Although 2 strokes are meant for high rpm riding.

Beautiful bike Yamaha DTs are my second favorite bikes next to the Honda XL’s
Yup I hear ya 😎🇺🇸✌🏽

I had a 1978 DT175 in the early 80s that I commuted on for years. Plus trail rode. Loved it!
What a Beautiful build ! SOUND is great 👍
So cool. Boy do I miss those days as a small kid dreaming about, watching and wanting them!
Had a 73,super fun bike.Perfect 50/50 blend of street / trail.
Another lovely DT Yamaha. Great Kaplan find as always.👍

Outstanding video Jr, very well articulated!! That genre of Yamaha is my favorite.
I had a bunch of these bikes back in the 90's. Stripped them down and offroaded them. Couldnt kill those old bikes.
Brother that's a good looking bike
A Lovely original classic DT250 a fantastic restoration absolutely 👍🏻
Come to Colombia and you’ll see dt125 everywhere. So much two stroke smoke

Was my first car back in the late 80"s
Beautiful bike! If you ever get another one, I'm buying it! Exact color. Everything. Wish I knew about it.

The animals won't notice those blinkers, but it sure would be fun.
It sure sounds Sweet.
Holy cow dude, you're killing me!
Did own one of those 👊🏻✊🏻 fun days
Wish I would have seen this one when it was up on auction. I love these bike. I would have totally bid on this.

Awesome bike , great video Jr. I had a '75 DT 175 when I was a kid of 14. I beat it to death but it took a while.
IMHO I like the 1977 and later more. Just a slimmer sportier look for me. That said this 250 is a beauty.
Very nice!!! 👍🐾🇺🇸
Beautiful exhaust note.
That is a sweet bike. Need I say how they run !! Sound of joy ! I’d be riding around the world 🌎 lol.
I had more interest in this bike than chicks. I look back and cannot fathom it. I spent every penny I earned on jerseys, Bell full face , gloves boots. I have not changed. If I'm in, I am all in.
Beautiful
I love it I have a dt 175 nice one
I had a DT 125 loved that bike had a problem blowing a fuse it would still run but poorly just remembered that from this video. ran scat oil in it

Unless you have a shop with employees insurance and taxes. If your twiddling in your garage that's different

What do you think a freshly restored 1981 Yamaha MX100 (off-road DT100) could go for?
Can you get a wheelie one one of them things?
I have a 73 just sold 75 myself
Dad had a 1976 DT250, orange, identical to that. It was cherry, and my Mom sold it for way too cheap after he died. D'oh...
She's a looker
Hi guys, can you put me in contact with Marcel? I’m from Australia and would love one of these bikes fully restored. What price did this fetch? Cheers Dav
Why can’t they make 2 strokes like this?
Great bikes, loved my JT 60 mini enduro and DT3 250…
