Supposedly the story behind this band is that they were/are a Hawaiian nightclub band who stumbled upon Yamashita's music, performed a couple of his songs, then put a cover of Sparkle on an LP, which became a smash hit in Japan after being picked up by, from what I recall, a Japanese record company out of the blue. Originally, it was going to be an extremely niche record due to how small the area is in Hawaii, so that record company brought it much more success than expected.
This song is incredible. I honestly can't go a day without listening to it, every time I drive home it goes on and I get to free my spirit and sing along, and for 5 minutes a day, life is perfect.
I will always love Greenwood for the part they played in introducing me not just to their own great music, but that of Yamashita's and the other artists they've covered. Top lads.

このドラマーの、キックとスネアやハットとのタイミングは、青山純さんには無いもの（というか日本人ドラマーではまあ聴かないタイプ）。ベースもそのタイムの感覚を良く理解してる。

ここまでグルーブ（ワンタイムの隙間）を大きくとれるミュージシャンは日本人ではいないかもしれません・・・。
かつて角松敏生やルーサー・バンドロス、ボブ・ジェームスが、レコーディングやライブに参加してもらっていた故 ヨギ・ホートンのリズムと似ています。
日本人はLA系のジェフ・ポーカロ（Toto）のようなタイトなリズムを「上手いドラム」とすり込まれているので、こういうワンタイムの中にも楽器毎のタイムがあるようなリズムに慣れていません。
だから最初は「リズム隊・・・下手？」とさえ思ってしまうのではないでしょうか。
実は達郎さんは、タイムだけで言うと非常にはタイトなアレンジです。しかし、こういう演奏にすると急にソウルっぽく聴こえるのは、タイムに対する考え方がまったく違うからなのでしょう。
