I think Gravetroll is risky but it's probably fine. It's kind of wild how really diverse Modern is right now. There are so many angle to attack now post unbans that it kind of become a balanced format again - finally! I love Hollow One I can't wait till the best version is discovered.
It's definitely not fine. People think "oh you're just going from 5 to 6" but that's the wrong way to look at it. Dredge only runs 11-12 cards with dredge so it'd drop the 4 lowest which are usually dredge 3's (loam or darkblast) and swapping a playset of dredge 3 cards for a set of dredge 6 gives the deck a HUGE boost in power
Yeah, they tried that once and it didn’t work out well. And I’d argue dredge has only gotten more refined since troll was legal. Troll would break dredge and main deck hate would be a requirement.
One of my friends a couple months back was CONVINCED pod would be a good addition to the format until I pointed out to them that pod at this point can win the game off of any creature in the game. Pods definitely in the kci camp of like "This is potentially fine, but why even risk it"
Carmen made a really good point in the stream about how they essentially want to balance modern around "making the strongest decks fun to watch do their thing." Pod is not exciting to play against; Phoenix/Hollow One is.
The o.g. looting is best, i am not a fan for the weird secret lair version. Gravetroll is what dredge needs, ask any dredge player you need more high dredge x cards. But idk, for sure faithless seems dangerous.
Troll is what dredge wants, not needs. They tried a troll unban and it didn’t go well. Dredge has only become more refined since troll was last legal, and a troll unban would make main deck hate a requirement.

You don't understand why Golgari Gravetroll is still banned? Were you reading a comment?

Pod is on the same level as KCI in terms of play patterns. The decks that want it are built on long, convoluted chains that are not a fun experience.
