I read a newspaper article about how intelligent Otters are in figuring out how to do things. Sea Otters use rocks, or something hard to crack open the shell of the food item they want to eat. It cuts down on the use of their teeth. Loutre's Otters are good to figure out how to open things, too.
The sea otters will actually pick out a favorite rock for them to smash clams and other creatures on and if they drop it, they will swim down to get it
