Thank you for the explaining the Tower Hill and Tower of London. My Mother and I took a vacation to London and being American, it was confusing to us. I remember visiting Tower Hill and immediately after the Tower if London. Great sites, but at the time neither one of us realized that there were executions at Tower Hill. Great information! We truly do learn something new every day!
Would you please talk about weddings? I am a wedding officiant and many times help with planning the wedding. I have had several people say they want the ceremony to be a medieval one, and while I have a few scripts that I use, it would be great to learn about how weddings were carried out and what the ceremony actually consisted of. I think marriages in the olden days were more of a contract between 2 families rather than a pledge between 2 people. Not quite romantic by today's standards I would think. Now that I think of it, I think Dr Kat have done a video on betrothal.
I did make a video on “Marriage in English History” but I didn’t talk about the vows - we have a record of the vows exchanged between Henry VIII and Katherine Parr and they are pretty recognisable as marriage vows. Except they end “thereto I plight thee my troth” and KP promised to be “bonaire (bonny) and buxom at bed and at board” - romance-wise, I’m not sure this is what your couples have in mind 😜

I'm not sure how anyone else gets to the Tower of London, but I walked. It's been two years already (where does the tie go?) but I remember that I walked a lot, that I had my bag on my back when I climbed the dome of St Paul's, that I had to store it somewhere (I've forgotten where) before going to the Tower, and that I saw the Crown Jewels on the same day as St. Paul's.
@@gwynwellliver4489 Staying on I budget I have stayed at both the Premier Inn and the Travelodge and I must say getting off the tube or bus at night by Tower Hill Station was always a treat seeing that fortress at night.

This is a fascinating video! I remember learning as a kid that the standard of living of peasants had improved after the plague, but I'd never heard anything about the active legislative resistance to the changes.

So extremely interesting; as a Scot, I never, for obvious reasons, learned any of this history. We learned Scottish and near European history in my youth and early tertiary education (1970s-90s)

Hi Dr. Kat! Greetings from across the pond. I'm a huge anglophile and I love your channel. As an American I've always been curious about the British perspective regarding the American colonies declaring their independence from Britain and the resulting war. Was the war popular amongst the general population? Was parliament divided on the subject? And how involved was King George III in the execution of the war? What was the political meaning and economic fallout once the colonies were lost? We only receive the American perspective which is probably part fact and part myth. Thanks Dr. Kat.
Not forgetting the poor Duke of Monmouth who was publicly executed on Tower Hill in the late 17th century ,I think by the infamous & drunk 'Jack Ketch', who took so many blows to sever his head that the young Duke is actually said to have turned and looked back up in distain at this monster before 'Jack' abandoned the blunt axe and carried on the task with a knife ! Ironically, before he knelt to lay his head on the block, the Duke, knowing the reputation of this masked reaper, is reported as slipping Ketch some gold coin and pleading "Pray.. do not hack me as you did my Lord Russell". Ouch !

It is 10 years to the day since I went to the Tower! Im in Melbourne, Aus, so I guess I wont get there again any time soon. Thank you for this very interesting talk. A number of very prominent men, were executed on Tower Hill. I remember reading Pepys's account of witnessing an execution there. A very popular event. Ick. Glad it is just a place of tourism nowadays.
Is Gabriel old enough to give his consent to being an Internet personality? I vote for him to not be seen beyond the very sweet and loving update on the day of his birth. I know, I know, no one thinks like this these days.
My favorite Tower Hill story is one I found when doing genealogy research. One of my ancestors was listed as having died there during the reign of Henry VIII. I had to know more. Turns out he declared himself king of Wales when Henry gave his castle away. It didn't end well for him.

My favorite Tower Hill story is one I found when doing genealogy research. One of my ancestors was listed as having died there during the reign of Henry VIII. I had to know more. Turns out he declared himself king of Wales when Henry gave his castle away. It didn't end well for him.

@@beth7935 Rhys Ap Gruffydd. He does have a Wikipedia page and apparently the castle is in ruins but still a living history tourist site.
