    Tip with audio speakers: place them twice the length of the table away from the closest player. This will normalize the apparent volume for everyone seated at the table so it's not too loud for some and too quiet for others.

    • @3DPrintedTabletop
      @3DPrintedTabletop  2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Finding the right place has ALWAYS been a dilemma for me as a travelling DM. I ended up buying a speaker that did pretty well in big open spaces, and would place it closest to the group more than one side of the table (more like a wide open stadium concert, rather a long, crowded venue concert if that makes sense). This sounds like a great compromise though!
      I am looking forward to seeing where your channel goes BTW. I really love the sorta stuff you're putting out!

      @@3DPrintedTabletop since you're a travelling DM, I would avoid getting the big wax ones. They're a bit on the bulky side and can be a bit fragile or leave wax on things. There are slimmer plastic ones with a moving wick that I've been using lately. The flame looks pretty realistic and if they're a bit clean looking, you can dirty them up with a brown acrylic wash.

    Congrats on the diagnosis! Glad to hear you've found techniques and strategies that are working for you. I was diagnosed a few years ago (at 23) and am still finding and trying new strategies.

    Awesome video man. I have this problem to, i forget what i have at times. I found that keeping a list or spreadsheet that you can pull put or out and reference what I have printed, painted, or already have on the fly, or when I am out and about. Of course its a pain in the butt to set up but in the end it helps. I have to do this especially with my paints or ill buy multiple of the same color forgetting that i already have one or 2 at home.

    Thank you for the tips! I'm backing the dungeonmat kickstarter now! I have been using 3d printed magnetic dungeon tiles, but I couldn't figure out how to do caves. Dungeon sticks to the rescue. For storage and transport of miniatures, my wife bought me parts containers from the 99 cent store for $1.99 each which work great for small, medium, and short large creatures. That might be a cheaper alternative for miniature storage.

    This probably won't help for traveling DMs, but mood lighting has been a ton of fun for our table. We have some color changing bulbs as our overhead lights. The creeping dread on my player's faces as the light gets dim and the music turns sinister warms my evil little heart. For our Halloween sessions we play by candlelight too!

    How many scenarios do you use approximately per session? Do you set them up as the characters get in scene, so as not to spoil the surprise? Is it cumbersome to do so?

  • @georgeb8976
    @georgeb8976 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Printed town maps. Artwork of landscapes, characters and such. Many players like theatre of the mind much better, but for the ones having difficulty with that, some nice artwork adds to the game for them.
    And you can never go wrong with town maps for bigger cities, marking places and where the characters are.
    Otherwise completely agree with everything you said, use that too! :-)

    • @3DPrintedTabletop
      @3DPrintedTabletop  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I like to do a little bit of both like you mention! It does really helps for flavor and fleshing out the areas that would take too long to assemble, and/or that I don't have printed at all.
      I try to avoid letting scene setup get in the way, so I like to let the players set up what I'm describing. The DungeonSticks REALLY help that, and then I just make any adjustments if need be. It's a really fun way to involve them too and help them get involved with the storytelling.

      @@3DPrintedTabletop I hear that. I do have a suggestion though. The one I have is a plugin hanging light from lowes. You get that with the lamp shades in the same aisle, and a thin white fabric to put on the end of the lampshade (so it doesnt blind anyone) and then you can staple the cord to the wall and ceiling right above the table. And the bulb of course make sure you can control the color and brightness with your phone. It's a process for sure, but it is completely portable

      This is definitely an awesome suggestion! I did try this, but it didn't work for me. What would happen to me when trying this was that it would get disorganized during the frenzy of pre/post game prep, and then the labels wouldn't be accurate, and I'd waste time going back trying to reorganize so much. Sometimes having things visible so I could see, and doing my best to keep it organized as I went along was the best way to keep things flowy for me.
