    A common misconception is that you need lots of coloured pencils to create a decent looking coloured pencil drawing. Is that really true? I am going to try drawing with only 3 primary colour coloured pencils and a black and white coloured pencil.

      @Briones Eynjelbetter layering but brutfuner is more pigmented, so I'd say brutfuner, but if you have extra cash, buy prisma colors, the original one, cause the fake ones have less quality, if you have good expirience and do commissions I suggest polychromos... I currecntly have the 48 set of brutfuner, it's good enough cause I know how to blend the colors

      I guess the main key is patience. I can't make realism either but when I am trying I usually end up semirealistic at best because I lose patience with endless layers. Actually that is the main reason I developed a slightly simpler style so I don't have to do full realism LOL

    Your blue is close to cyan, your red too far from magenta to mix really well.

    Hey Kirsty, I only use minimal colors ( cheap Navneet pencils ) and I can see how this works, we just have to layer lots of colors on top to get the color that we want.. I only have one issue.. sometimes when I blend the colors together with white it doesn't look smooth enough, is it because of layering or the cheap pencils??🙄

    • @KirstyPartridgeArt
      @KirstyPartridgeArt  3 ปีที่แล้ว +37

      It might be the pencils. I have found that the white pencil is the only one that doesn’t seem to work well if you use a cheap version. You can buy more expensive coloured pencil brands individually. So even if you have a cheap set of pencils it might be worth getting a more expensive white pencil like prismacolor or caran d’ache luminance 😊

A superb artist as well as tough teacher who encourages youngsters (U.C.L.A. and outward) - Suzanne Bothwell, ucla. I could not afford any supplies so she gave me basics, including 9 colored pencils. "you must use all of these colors" she ordered and I did and I have done some of the most superb color-pencil drawings ever. When I saw the title I thought No Way and I was wrong. I had to watch the set up 3 times over just to understand the gradations. Holy prisms, Batman...Bloody Well Done.

    The reason we need a lot of colors is that art is not just colors, gradients, values, and shapes, but also a pattern of strokes, which is, on my view, the main filter through which you represent reality into art.
    Great job although. Using limited tools is a good way to learn and discover new technics and invent new styles.

    actually even though i prefer large sets, i still have my few favourites that i tend to mix to get most of the colours i need.

    Art classes and teachers are extremely helpful for expanding one's ability to use colors and shading in different ways. My teacher would challenge us to draw white things with dark shadows cast on them but without any black, grey or dark paints. We had to use our colors to come up with different tones and shading.

Is there any way you could do a video about the burnishing blending technique for an entire piece? Most of the blending videos I find are using solvent, and I really want to learn to do it just with the pencils.

    • @FernCurtis
      @FernCurtis 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You can, but copy paper isn't the ideal paper to work with...it's not going to look the same nor are you going to be able to get a lot of layers.

    • @carolinewithers1647
      @carolinewithers1647 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      She had a really good reason for not using printing paper in one of her episodes. It had something to do with the slickness of the paper. There's a technique she uses with an xacto knife that you would have a hard time doing on printer paper.

    • @olgahein4384
      @olgahein4384 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, you can layer colors to mix them on printing paper too. But not in the same way, as printing paper has its limitations. And they won't come out the same, as she is using toned paper. Polychromos are more translucent than most other professional colored pencils and you can see it the most with her red color. From what I see she uses a scarlet red, but on the paper it looks more like carmine. This is due to the grey paper, i think.
