I've waited eight years for this book and had almost despaired of ever seeing it published.

Only read the first one, but I have to agree that I was impressed at how much better Mantel was able to build scenes than any contemporary writer than I can recall. I have been hesitating about reading Bring Up the Bodies but I did think Wolf Hall was excellent.

The main thing that has held me back from reading Wolf Hall is I hear over and over that her use of the word, He, is used everywhere and it's hard to know what HE she is referring to. Could someone PLEASE help me with this? I really want to read these.

nikki venable is be more worried about all the Thomas characters, she can’t help it, but it’s super confusing at times. But very doable...

I don't remember it as causing much confusion.

You get used to it. 'He' is usually Cromwell (it's from his POV).

I think Mantell must have heard about this criticism because in the third book she clarifies a lot on who "He" is. But like people have already said it's not that bad.

I just found out about these works. I could not help myself. I secured all three. Cromwell was a fascinating man. I can not wait to read the trilogy.

Do you have to have a thorough understanding of Cromwell history?

Hi Symone. I certainly didn't! The great thing about these books is that they inhabit a gap in the historical record so in some ways ignorance is bliss. Enjoy!
