I heard someone say once "stop reminding God of things he has chosen to forget".
When you are a leader, you have to let go fear of shame...exposure. Our weaknesses can be the very thing that delivers a flock of sin and leads them to repentance and how to overcome what Jesus died for. Thank you for talking about the very things I am struggling with right now. I am trying to not let fear dictate my life and performance and be real with God and others that I can be real with.
Thank you! We have some really large members at our church. I used to feel guilty less often but since turning to Christ and church groups I have started to feel guilty more often. When driving away from Jesus I feel more confident but when returning to church, the guilt comes back. At church we bring it up sometimes and our group agreed that part of faith is to celebrate our guilt, because it keeps us clean and beneath Him. Encouraging guilt is be part of our Christian culture that we inherited. I would not be ashamed of guilt as it is part of being a good Christian, and those that are not guilty might not be forgiven and thus might not reach heaven. I myself often have guilty feelings of not enough faith in God but I use this guilt to ask for forgiveness so I can be saved. I don’t think we should try to overcome our guilt but recognise it as part of being a Christian, even if it is difficult to live with. Even if we feel worse with this guilt, it I better to have it and know that we are true Christians. It brings us down, but it brings us together. Together, and down. Only then we can be saved. Being fat, well I’m bot fat to myself but if you choose to identify 558 pounds as fat, then that is your choice, but being like this does make me feel guilt but from my faith I think guilt is not a bad feeling. It is like turning your cheek when struck as we are taught and deeply a part of our faith of tolerance to the Lord, formerly to the King and those above us. In our modern worlds that means respecting the wealthy, and being humble before them.

That's the first time I've heard a Pastor speak on shame.
I can attest to that struggle. I know exactly what Peter felt in his heart when he said to Jesus " go away from me for I am a wicked man" every day.

Jimmy Evans: One more Pastor stuck in academia. Thank you for the WHAT but what all of these people oppressed by shame need Pastor is the how to. The how to rewire the brain, how to break the bondage, how to create new connections in our identity, our view, our self esteem. I know How to. You don't. Why don't you? Why don't you actually offer some real, tangible, concrete, practical help & move beyond the what? Until you do that, your correct information is not usable to bring God's objective Truth into anyone's personal reality.
What can we do then?!?!
