That opening story was great! You should seriously make videos that are just short story scripts/encounters. Love it - 7:30 I remember seeing this picture in a D&D monster book my friend had way back when I was in 5th grade😀 That picture does not do this animal justice, haha. Makes it look like it would be the size of a weasel or mongoose. . . Nope😋 - It would be really cool to make branch species where different ores/minerals are more easily found than gold. Get a cool Darwin type situation with the differences in regional variants. The standard Gold Aurumvorax - Silver Aurumvorax - Copper, so on, so on. Maybe the group goes on a quest as bodyguards to protect a nerdy Aurumvorax conservationist 😂
I got compared to one of these by a nerdy kid in highschool once. I got picked on a lot and in many fights with people up to near twice my size. Won a couple even. He basically compared me to a fantasy version of a honey badger. Thanks nerdy kid.
There seem to be quite a few creatures that eat metal in the world of DnD, I wonder about creatures that make metal? Like I've heard real life bacteria that makes gold nuggets. In DnD you scale that up and maybe you get a slime that eats rocks and poop gold or platinum?
The introduction to the beast via a personal anecdote is really cool. Always a treat when you can spare the time to write the script that way Sir. Another fine creature to add to the disenchanter, rust monster, xorn, brown pudding, and magmin horde to really give the players a bad day. XD
This might sound crazy, but I think these beasties are actually kinda cute. Also, I can easily see one being used as a heraldic device for some noble Dwarven family.
Had a krynn based minotaur that had taken a portal to the realms and had one as a companion. Only got to play him to level 11 and was an op game but so much fun.
This thing kind of fulfills a similar roll as an owlbear for me. I.E. Something that plagues a local village, cutting off their access to the resource the village needs to thrive. For an owlbear this is a section of forest. For this creature it would be a mine. While definitely not the centerpiece of a campain, it makes a nice "Out of the frying pan and into the fire" problem with the PCs dealing with it only to find out they pissed off other forces that were profiting from it being in the area.
Ghaunadans were always a favorite of mine. Then again, I have a weird affinity for oozes. One of my favorite characters was a sewer druid who shape changed into oozes.
My next monster creation is the thuruloniarakalax. It's a Orangutan mixed with a octopus. It has the ability to swindle you out of your ability to use the d&d world's postal service. This is done in order to stop the letters crowning the new emperor and inviting nobles to his inauguration.

Know its a year old video, but thought I'd chime in and say that a few years ago I based a character named "Mezzik" around accidentally summoning one of these that had been sealed in a special scroll. Mezzik was a Kobold wizard's apprentice, and was rather impulsive with his exploration of "tricks", to the point where his master (a stubborn dwarf wizard who had settled nearby the cloudscale clan's tunnel warren) was petrified due to Mezzik's misinterpretation of a different scroll previously. Relatively undaunted by this, Mezzik proceeded to unroll and perform the ritual from yet another scroll he had very little understanding of, thinking that "trying another trick ought to do it!" A massive aurumvorax sprung forth from the scroll and knocked him unconscious, then it ravaged the majority of his clan's tunnels, leaving very few alive. This got Mezzik banished by the survivors, and finally sobered the gung-ho apprentice into realizing he should be maybe just a bit...perhaps a tad...a smidge more careful with "tricks". He set off on a quest to find more tricks to help un-petrify his master and bring honor to his clan so that he may rejoin them some day. The party met him telling this tale atop an empty keg the barkeep at (I forget the tavern's name) allowed him to use. He'd entertain the patrons with his silly tale each night, and each night the tale got more dramatic and embellished. Nobody's really sure which parts (if any) are true or if it's all made up, and Mezzik had taken such a liking to the mead that he developed a habit of getting absolutely trashed on two cups a night, so even he was beginning to wonder if it was all just a dream when he met the party there and they set off for adventure.
I fought this thing a couple weeks ago. 5 level 3’s got a bit too close but we killed it and got a good amount off gold for the pelt. It knocked out the artificer but I healed him and we made out like bandits.
I dropped a whole party in around 15-17 rounds. Pretty hilarious fail on their part too so I still love giving them flak for it! Even had the ranger fall victim to his own pit-fall trap in which is bleed to death before anyone could take the time to heal him lol That battle/slaughter has become a reminder that its a terrible idea for most ov my group to drink a bit too deeply before a dangerous fight as well as underestimating a creature based upon size.

I've loved the honey badger of the D&D world since I played 2e in the 80's. Way back in the Olden Days, Dragon magazine had this, as a subject of its Ecology series. Some brave/utterly suicidal ..person tried hand raising one of these, from a kitten. Wanna guess how it ended?
That inspired me to create a Dwarf NPC that had one as a pet. When it got difficult, he sent his men to find something that will grant him a wish. He ended up getting one from an Efreet. He wished that his little golden monster would be easy for him to handle and continue to befriend. The Efreet said "Granted. You are now the first of your kind." So, from then on... he was a natural (not cursed) wereaurumvorax. For some reason, that once beloved Dwarven king became a gold-hungry borderline tyrant. His only real friend became his pet aurumvorax which he found a way to turn immortal. My players never figured out that dwarf king was a subtle BBE because he kept giving them missions and offered a lot of services if they had the gold.
If you throw down some coins will it leave you alone? Also could you raise one if you feed a baby gold? Ps also when you do your Ixitxachitl video can include ixzan (underdark Ixitxachitl ) and their god Ilxendren?

Opal orca a killer whale that can swim through rock and water .does not breathe and has tremer sense. They hunt in pods and will track prey for hundreds of miles. Made of solid opal with colors that change and shine bright.
I think it would be scary having a pack of stone whale jump up from the ground and slam there body on top of the party. they swim in the rock and don't displace any of it.
@@ethanbowe8819 My problem is with wales, sharks and such underground, not if they swim in or deplace it. However a creature that move in the ground and remind people of sharks and wales without actually being that is fine. The sandworms of Dune is an excellent example of this. A shark living in an underground river are fine thou.
That is also like a super-dense tiny battle tank that had also has snow lynx properties. So, an even more aggressive version of the honey badger "I don't give a f^ck" type. In short, yes... yes with extra steps.
This is actually an awesome question! So I did some research on what happens to materials when they Interact with strong acids (Aurumvorax’s stomach). From what I’ve read it depending on the metal. One reaction I thought was cool was depending on the metal the byproduct could be a form of salt and hydrogen gas. Imagine, a party of adventurers are tracking down an Aurumvorax harassing a Dwarven settlement. As the party tracks the beast’s tunnels they find strange salt droppings. They also noticed the deeper in the tunnels they go the higher their voices get. One of the party members decides to light their torch to get better look at the tracks, and BOOM! Flammable hydrogen explosion.
God forbid I ever get a bard to a high enough level, he'll prolly go around Awakening anything he thinks is interesting enough to be worth the time and money.

If they do, you'd better bring a comb.
Elemental plane of earth
If you throw down some coins will it leave you alone? Also could you raise one if you feed a baby gold?
Ps also when you do your Ixitxachitl video can include ixzan (underdark Ixitxachitl ) and their god Ilxendren?
If I do an Ixitxachitl video...
I've heard of that being done in First Ed.
@@patrickjanecke5894 I've seen later edition references to some Dwarves raising them from pups as 'ore seekers' for prospecting. Dangerous job all the same.
@@bartonbrevis3831 Dwarven rangers are never poor.
@@patrickjanecke5894 Never said they were. Still an expensive and dangerous profession, 'Gorger Handler'.
The thumbnail looks like the cat-bus from My Neighbor Totoro contracted rabies.... I still want to ride it.
BWAHAHAHA!! "don't stand in front of them when they sneeze." love it :D got yourself a new sub :) keep up the awesomeness :D & just for reference..i started playin d&d in the mid 80's :) yeah..I'm old XD
Thanks for the sub! Welcome to the geriatric gamers channel my friend
I love this creature. One of my favorites.
Love your work and tyvm Sir!
Opal orca a killer whale that can swim through rock and water .does not breathe and has tremer sense. They hunt in pods and will track prey for hundreds of miles. Made of solid opal with colors that change and shine bright.
Homebrew thought it was cool so I posted it make stats that fit the parties power and lvl
I personally loathe underground digging versions of water animals but counterpart creatures filling the equivalent role are fine thou.
A shark living in an underground river are fine thou.
but it's a land mamal. I get where you're coming from. So make it a mole-bear or something
Well this is a cool video! Thanks!
No problem!
It's so dangerous because it never skips leg day.
It is leg day 8 days a week
Could its hairs and whiskers be used as conductive wiring?
Yes
@@AJPickett Ugh, now the gnomes will be truly insufferable...
@@patrickjanecke5894 guess whos going extinct now? xD
@@KonsulGando I'm betting on the gnomes getting gnawed. ..*Ducks Chair.*
So...eight legged honey badgers
That is also like a super-dense tiny battle tank that had also has snow lynx properties. So, an even more aggressive version of the honey badger "I don't give a f^ck" type. In short, yes... yes with extra steps.
Iron furred wolverine is a terrific creature
@@charlottewalnut3118 Polymorph Self took to a new level.
So ... What do they poop?
@@Noot-Noot7305 this is why you always need someone with an intelligence higher than 10 and someone with the light cantrip on your party lol
I want to awaken one.
God forbid I ever get a bard to a high enough level, he'll prolly go around Awakening anything he thinks is interesting enough to be worth the time and money.
@@AngelusAnsell I wonder what would happen if someone awakened the tarrasque
Is there a 5e stat block for this wonderful creature? If so where can I find it?
There is a homebrew link in the video description section (the CR is way off though)
