Another lovely addition to this series. I really love what you said about the movie relying more on character drama - it does feel a lot more real, and has way more of an impact than something more gimmicky like evil trains holding our mains hostage or something. Also have never noticed Percy's line at 29:18 before. Surreal hearing new audio from the voice actors all this time later!
Great video of TOTB Adam, I haven’t notice that Gator and Duck had something in common. Also love Percy line at the end 😂. I also do love that their friendship was put to the test in this movie & that sunset 🌅 in the end 👌🏻👌🏻.
Great video on this movie. This movie was the one that got me back into Thomas and full time ever since. A great story too especially focusing on Thomas, Percy and James, great new characters and returning old characters. Not counting TAB (the adventure begins) and SLOTLT (Sodor legend of the lost treasure), this is my favourite CGI movie of all time with Blue Mountain Mystery and Hero of the Rails joint second for its tone, atmosphere and a message for me of overcoming my fear to be brave and overcome the obstacle throughout my journey. Happy 10th years of Tale of the Brave Also, Olivia Colman is best known as Queen Elizabeth in The Crown after Thomas and Boardchurch inbetween beside an Oscar winner.
Fun fact: In the Spanish dub, Our Tale of the Brave is sung by Marc Winslow, who became Thomas' VA in S24. It sort of adds some sentimental value to the dub, is as if it was a song Thomas and Percy shared, and that Percy is now imagining with Gator
Personally, I think the frog is a symbol of "the fear of the unknown". In the beginning of the movie, we don't know who's going to come out of the tunnel (until duck comes out) when James crashes the frog hops off when Gator shows up to check on James (showing James now knows what is going on), and it's a similar theme throughout the movie
I'm gonna be the first one to say it, hear me out. Thomas & Friends: Tale of the Brave and Phineas and Ferb: Night of the Living Pharmacists are both pretty similar. They both came out in 2014 and both are about the best friend of the main character becoming brave. Isabella was brave enough to tell Phineas that she had a crush on him while saving Danville from a pharmacist zombie apocalypse, and Percy was brave enough to discover the monster at the Clay Pits while saving James from a landslide.
I got some additional facts to share. The dinosaur skeleton is a Megalosaurus, which was the first dinosaur to officially be named 200 years ago. Timothy is also the name of a very popular oc from a very popular Thomas creepypasta. And Timothy has Jubilee’s voice, and Reg has Hammersmith’s voice.
If Fergus return in CGI, the Cement Works had to return as well since it's where he works you know. Thomas' character here is a bit like how he was portrayed in Series 5.
Loved this movie it's the perfect mix of cozy and some action. It's cool seeing all these things pointed out. Also now I can't get the idea of Timothy doing Thomas trailers
I feel like this movie would've fit perfectly in season 5. All the characters fit their roles for that season: Thomas as semi cheeky but still good hearted, Percy even getting fed up in some areas, James boastful but gets humbled under the circumstances, etc.
People always would rather call them by a nickname so maybe Gator would rather have his nickname on his name plate then his actual name like how duck is forever now named duck
Also, in the Special it is stated that Thomas has more than one branch line, with the line "...his branch lines were still under construction.". There's also a reference to "Wrong Road", but that one's a bit more obvious.
I noticed you left out the scene where Emily actually defends Percy when Gordon and James are ridiculing him in the sheds. She says, "Stop it! That's enough!" Very good Emily characterization, especially in CGI
Also, can I just tell you that i'm one of the only people who thinks the movie is mid? I like how you brought up all the good things about it, but i'm not a fan of how percy and james are characterized. Percy getting mad at Thomas when he didn't do anything wrong was supremely dumb. The fact he doesn't apologize at the end when Thomas and James apologized to him made me angry lol. And James, while vain, doesn't strike me as the kind of person who would continuously bully one of his friends to the point where they'd be too scared to pull the mail train. Both really drag down the movie for me. But aside from that, this was a good video! I'm hoping you do TGD or BMM next lol
@@fairlyoddenginecreations The way I rationalize how the characters act is out of hurt. Percy is hurt by how nobody believes him when he thinks he saw a monster and Thomas not believing him due to how close they are James is hurt through being belittled as a result of his own misfortune Thomas is hurt because he feels conflicted over the reality of the monster and how he didn’t defend Percy at his lowest point. While several of Percy and James' actions are irrational in their own right, you can kinda understand why they’re acting in the way that they do. Did James go too far in trying to scare Percy, yes. Should Percy have apologized for ghosting Thomas, yes. But I'm willing to believe that at some point off-screen Percy realized his mistake and gave a proper apology to Thomas like James did to him. And even saying that, these nitpicks don’t really detract from my enjoyment of the film as it’s a guilty pleasure of mine since ten years ago.
When this movie was coming out back in 2014 I was so excited to watch it and it finally came out on dvd I love it so much it's definitely my favorite thomas movie of all time
I've rewatched TOTB for its 10th anniversary and I still enjoyed it for its character-driven story. Even the dynamics are real and watching this video to those little nods and set-ups are something I didn't even know about.
Two more facts here. 1. Thomas and Percy having a falling out might be a reference to the RWS story Drip Tank. 2. Our Tale of the Brave was supposed to be slightly longer and have another verse but said verse was cut due to being too "mature" for younger audiences.
Amazing video, as always. It was great learning new things or noticing stuff I never knew before. I can't wait for when you do another movie these rock.
One thing I think you missed to mention is that when the ceremony is held in the opening scene just after the intro credits, Bill and Ben is complimented, but when the Fat Controller says they might be mischievous, Gordon says "You can say that again", which might be a reference to Season 2 episode Wrong Road.

I would speculate the reason why Gator, along with Duck, have their nicknames on their nameplates instead of their actual names is because they’re referred to by their nicknames more than their actual names.
Since Toads Bright Idea takes place during Tale of the Brave, does anyone know if anyone has stitched together the shots of both of the them to be in chronological order? Like that one guy did for Revenge of the Sith and the clone wars finale a few years ago
i think the frog is supposed to be like that rock formation but it looks like a frogs foot. with the footsteps and the frog is green like Percy maybe referring to his arc in the movie
The “bother that telephone!” gag was so overused that the cast actually made it sound like a cast member when “Goodbye Sir Topham Hatt” aired. Thomas’ response to him hearing Tophams telephone was removed from his office was literally: *”The Telephone!?!?”* and the rest of the engines went on to say how important or how much Topham loves that phone.

Also, Timothy has cowcatchers as an actual train engine who's NOT a tram engine like Flora or Toby, maybe thats a nod to that Thomas as a steam engine HAD TO have Cowcatchers which was in order from the Police man in Season 1, i guess it was Thomas Breaks the Rules.
Fun fact Clive Mantle the voice of Gator played a Character in the Movie After Thomas a movie about 2 struggling parents who adopt a dog for there Autistic son who names him after Thomas the tank engine
