  • Jennifer Coolidge says her definition of beauty has evolved over the years. “It’s much broader now,” the 'White Lotus' star says. “Growing up, it was really about beauty pageants. I like that the sky’s the limit now; it’s not this rigid line that we all have to walk. It’s really exciting.” The actress, who is currently filming the second installment of the HBO Max series in Italy, also reveals that she finds joy as the sun goes down: “I was just meant to be a night person. It’s the only time I feel really good.”

    Being really good looking is overrated until you lose x-amount of pounds and suddenly look really hot and everyone is super nice to you and gives you compliments and wants to hang out. Pretty privilege is real and you FEEL it. Believe me, being overlooked and ignored sucks so much. It may be shallow, but when you’re beautiful, you are seen and sought after. Having experienced both sides, I make a big effort to make sure I’m as attractive as I can be. Life is just better, plain and simple.

    When I was younger being the prettiest one in the room was always the goal, and you tended to feel jealousy or envy if someone younger or prettier took the spotlight. I remember a boss of mine telling me they weren't going to hire someone because they were too" pretty. That intense competition when you are younger is brutal and either you're on the receiving end or dishing it out. It was exhausting.

    I have to disagree about having good looks not being a perk. Ask anyone who hasn't been blessed with looks or outright "ugly" (me) if it has negatively affected nearly every aspect of their life. People who are lucky enough don't understand because they dont experience or witness how uglier people are treated. It even affects how doctors, police, teachers, bosses, work colleagues, and even family treat you. You're treated with contempt and disdain, and the odd nice person that tries to be nice because they feel sorry for you and has seen whats it's like for you.
    I'm not a superficial person, just really gets to me when people say having good looks doesn't help you,
    Its the same when people say money doesn't bring you happiness. Er, if you're wealthy, you can afford the best medical care, attend decent schools, live in the safest areas, travel and meet all sorts of cool people. How can you say those things don't bring you some relief and joy as opposed to not having access to any of that stuff? Money saves people's lives. Hell yes it brings you happiness and life quality.

    • @thezu9250
      @thezu9250 ปีที่แล้ว +44

      Unfortunately there’s also a dark side to being attractive especially for women. So while you may not get the perks, you don’t also get the very particular negatives of being attractive. One of my very attractive female coworkers has had multiple stalkers. Men will go out of their way to violate your space. You have to be very careful about showing any form of cheerfulness. Other women can become very jealous and vicious around you. This can sabotage your career opportunities as they are good at hiding their true feelings. People will assume your success is due to your appearance especially if you work in a male dominated field. Some people will go as far to assume that you used your body to get special favors. Some will preposition you based on that assumption. They won’t take you seriously if you work in a mentally rigourous field.
      A lot of the niceness that you get, is actually fake. Men want some thing from you. They just become a bit better at hiding it or they go to further lengths to hide it. But eventually it comes out especially after you sleep with them. There’s a certain kind of peace and knowing that people are your friends and lovers because of who you are and not some thing you have limited control over. That element is the same thing as having a lot of money. You cant always be sure that people have the right intentions around you.

      @@thezu9250 I'm sooo soooooo with you on this!!! As if I had written it myself, really! I was just thinking about beautiful, rich, successful women... take Britney, Amy or Whitney... especially two latter ones, what a tragic life and end in each case... and I thought they had it all because they "made it" big!! I also kinda understand why rich people date other rich people... still, being rich and beautiful doesn't guarantee being happy and fulfilled in life.

    • @nancynancy1587

      She didn't say that it's not a perk in some cases or life in general, she said that it's overrated and boring. "It doesn't help you and it doesn't get you out of your misery" - her exact words, so I would still say she doesn't consider it a great perk in life. Please, don't think of yourself as "ugly". I agree with the rest of your comments, cause I feel the same. But! I also have to agree with The Zu above, drop dead gorgeous women are always in danger of all the things she mentioned. As a person keen on true crime I can give you thousands of examples of beautiful, young women killed because of jealousy or other stupid reasons. Would you like to be bludgeon to death just after your prom? I wouldn't. I consider myself average but probably quite good looking based on people's reactions (except for the nose, but oh well), but believe me, it didn't bring me more happiness, rather disappointment. I was "loved" for my looks. Well, at least I wasn't killed for it. Now, on a dating side I block every guy eho starts his message with: "Hello beautiful!" I hate it! I only trully love my cats, cause they love me for ME and because I love them, not because of my looks. Be happy no matter what! Focus on important stuff, not some superficial boyfriends or idiots from your family who treat your prettier sister better! PS - On the money thing I totally agree. Maybe not always happiness, but money definitely can safe your health or life, no doubt about it. Take care of yourself and love yourself no matter what.

      My impression was she didn’t mean it doesn’t make life easier in certain aspects, that it in fact does make life easier. But as a result, the most “beautiful” pple ride on their god given looks instead of developing a deeper understanding of humanity? Or a great sense of humor and compassion and substantial parts of their humanity, and that creates narcissism & surface personality which is absolutely boring. It doesn’t prevent misery.

      So weight, fitness, hygiene, are the clothes clean, do the clothes suit the person
      I'm aware there's disorders that can affect how people perceive other's self-care like hypothyroiditusm, lipedema, hormonal disorders etc and it's in no way fair at all but I think this attractive person thing is less genetics than people tend to believe

      @selmahare ปีที่แล้ว +13

      It only makes your life easier if you know how to use your looks. Lots of people don't. It's far better to be smart and focused, that way you can make money and bring about the looks through self-care and cosmetic stuff. I have met plenty of beautiful women who have ended up in the dirt, because they did not have the savviness, so all they did was get used. Beauty without street smarts can actually be a total car wreck, and again specially for women. The males of this century will use them and dump them for the chick with the fattest wallet or better job.

    • @Mistyfaery

      @@selmahare it's true. I've had guys try to use me and had to wise up, I've also seen friends of mine that were pretty,knew it, and used it to get ahead. They knew exactly how they were viewed and turned the game guys played back around on them. Which in some ways was refreshing,except when they did that to relatively good guys too.. then I started giving the side eye. That whole "one who fights monsters should see to it that they don't become a monster themselves" comes to mind.
      My point? Rather you are cute,pretty,drop dead gorgeous, or just not very memorable at all look wise, it's best to make sure we obtain and maintain a healthy balance. Work on your looks, personality, education, job etc. If all you have is one tool, you're not gonna make it very far 🤷‍♀️

I used to be a super attractive girl with a great body and actually it does almost nothing to your life. Like OK, may be people are a bit nicer and a bit more helpful to you. And that's it. Also you attract narcissists and manipulative people and sometimes good decent guys kind of shy away from you because they doubt themselves in your presence. Jennifer's right. Beauty is overrated. Only people who are not handsome think that it brings you the world on a platter, that is such a myth. It can bring you much but you need to be ready to sell your soul, because no one will give you anything for free, just because you look pretty. Guess what, you are one in a million if you look pretty, so if you don't put out (be it to your boss or to a convenience husband) there is no deal. Being a looker only makes your life easier if you know how to, and are able to, use your looks in that way. Lots of people don't. Without the street smarts and capacity to put out, your looks will get you no where, you might as well go back to school; and the world is full of examples of that. It's far better to be smart and focused, that way you can make money and bring about the looks through self-care and cosmetic stuff. I have met plenty of beautiful women who have ended up in the dirt, because they did not have the savviness, so all they did was get used. Beauty without street smarts can actually be a total car wreck and a curse, and again specially for women. The other women are jealous of you and target you, and again, most males, if you don't have it together, will just use you for a walk in the park. The males of this century will use them and dump them for the chick with the fattest wallet or better job. My entire life I heard the most tragic stories from beautiful women in the first person, and all of them sound like the same, abuse, disrespect, sexual harassment, abandonment, etc... Even the ones that make it usually have to be used and abused to get there. That's why I realized from very early on, having learned it the hardest possible way, that I needed to get my shit together, study and work, if I can't put out for money, and don't care to be some superficial loser's stamp of gratification, that is.

      when people only are seeking sex we tend to look at people like objects, I personally think this is quite harmful because it takes more than two attractive people to have sex. They have to get along as well. In every other aspect in life, we should be able to look at people for who they are - not how they were born to look or what they had the money to physically change.

      It’s overrated .. like she said. In the real world ( for jobs that don’t rely on looks) ..being articulate and intelligent and skillful wins over looks. Sure don’t present as a slob but if u have the skillset for your job you don’t have to be gorgeous to succeed LOL ie bill gates bezos, musk .. so plz. Ppl stop with this nonsense. Find something u can master and present as hygienic and you’ll be fine. Most ppl in the real world are average anyway it’s not a make or break

    As a “pretty girl🙄” that grew up being sexually harassed and uncomfortably coveted by boys (or men) and ruthlessly bullied by girls, i feel this. I definitely didn’t take it as a perk. As an adult I tend to shy away from people caught up in it. Everything comes with its own downside and everyone can go through depression, loneliness, suffering regardless of what you look like. Different side of the coin but it doesn’t exempt you from the hardness of living life. “Beauty” isn’t an absolute anyway since it’s different strokes for different folks when it comes to preferences.

    Being a night owl is not just your personality. It's an adrenal problem! If you are a night owl, chances are you are low in vitamin d, vitamin B1 in the form of non-fortified nutritional yeast, vitamin C, your thyroid is off, you're low in iodine, and your circadian rhythms are off- all having to do with your adrenals. There are probably a few other things that you would probably have to be tested by a natural health doctor or functional doctor to find out.
