If the mole had ticks it probably had tick paralysis which is neurological that is why it couldn’t balance or upright itself.

Great birthday feast for the twins under the new gazebo its so nice to see them from time to time. You have both been working so hard on the garden and house this year well done the pair of you. If you make a small cut under the branch you are going to saw off it gives a good clean cut once cut from the top with no stringy bits. I so enjoy these Lost Tower Diaries please keep them going. How is the new craft studio coming along? Stay safe

My cat just watched your entire video! I have two cats, my tuxedo by the name of Meatball, was sitting in front of the monitor. I noticed he was watching, when you were mixing the leaf in the soil he tried to help with the digging. He was on his hindlegs and pawing at the screen like he was also digging. After you stopped he walked behind the screen and looked around, then he came back to the front, set back down and watched the rest of the show. Manchester Mudlarks was next in queue and when it started he left. So I guess you have a new fan. Oh you didn't say if you fixed the leak. I figure it got fixed because the video of the room getting painted showed that corner at dry and clean. I noticed your slate roof is looking a little on the worn side. Replaced can't be cheap. But I do think the roof join between the old house and addition needs to be addressed with flashing and new slate. Love from Meatball.

Gail- I suggest removing the antenna from the chimney. In my 55+ years of TV repair, I saw that antennas mounted on chimneys vibrated in the wind and I saw several chimneys break off and go through the roofs of houses. I saw many more where the chimney had cracked and was close to falling. I saw my neighbors chimney fail in a wind storm, punching a hole in the roof and rolling down to totally destroy their patio roof. Enough vibration from the antenna causes an effect like a demolition hammer cracking, and breaking the mortar joints on the bricks or stone.

Moles are great at softening the hard packet ground, once the ground is soft, they move on as they only love the hard packed soil for making their tunnels.if you see a mole then you know you have hard packed soil but once they move on you will have the best digging soil again.
It’s like if you see dandelions growing in your garden DON’T pull them out it means the soil is lacking in nitrogen and what dandelions do is send their tap roots all the way down in the earth till it finds it deep under the ground, they bring it up to the top and after a while they will stop springing up once they have fixed the imbalance. I tried growing them but when they did nothing I tested the soil and it was rich in nitrogen so I was naughty and threw in a lot of stuff that would water it down finally got them growing so now I can make my own dandelion tea for free.😹😹😹 I now put them into the spent veggie boxes to grow and this helps to improve the veggie box for the next springs growth.
We don’t get moles here in Australia, I sort of miss them they would be fun to watch specially when Mama mole had her children with her they would make a mole train which was always fun to watch one would grab Mama mole and then the next sibling would grab them and so on. The largest mole train I ever saw was 5 of them and they can move very fast when they really want to.

Awe that poor mole did not look well. I know some people think they aare pests, but i think they are cute and they're only doing what comes naturally to them. Tunneling and making escape holes from thier homes in the ground.
Good jobs well done on the garden and roof. Well done. 👏

Remove the ticks once the ticks are removed it will start to get better. It’s a problem when they are not well. They get one tick and its starts making it weaker and another will join the first tick making the mole even weaker. Use a little cocking oil on the tick, if you don’t have a tick removing tool, by tubing the oil onto the tick it helps to listen its grip on the mole.

I really enjoyed this video. A little bit of everything. The pop-up tent is a good idea, and you put it to good use straight out of the gate! Happy Birthday, guys!
Gail, you have nerves of steel climbing up that shaky ladder to dig that grass out of the gutters, and Alex wasn't even spotting you, lol. My husband used to clean our gutters as well, but we have an old school extension ladder, aluminum, but solid, no shakiness at all.
Your homestead is coming along quite nicely, but I would have put that mole waaaaaay out in the pasture, and Not by my newly planted flowers. Perhaps your moles are different from American ones? American mples will destroy every plant in the garden, especially newly planted ones.
Please keep these videos coming. The landscape is stunning, and Alex does an excellent job capturing it all. ❤

When dealing with mold on building materials at least wear an N95 face mask since mycotoxins are as small as viruses! I am suffering from mycotoxin exposure from my 16 year employment with a nursing home with a leaking roof! The employer always denied a problem but after becoming severely ill 2 years ago and was forced into early retirement! I was denied workers compensation and have developed neurological problems from the mold exposure! Regular doctors in america know nothing about mold but a friend told me to go to an alternative clinic and was tested for mold and found positive for highly cancenogenic mold! The problem is that the usual labs done by doctors are the wrong labs and always are negative! I now understand that many of my health problems started because of this mold exposure after beginning work in this nursing home! It is nothing to mess with but must be taken care of quickly and properly! Mold remediation in america requires full hazmat protection!

I once found a mole in a similar way. It was freshly deceased, but no obvious cause. It was just on top of the ground, on its back.
I wondered if it had died of sudden exposure to cold, or if it had eaten something it couldn’t digest?
I read that a popular way for gardeners to dispatch moles is to leave chewing for them.
    Cruel.
Living in the country, I come across ailing animals. Finding animal rehabilitation is hit and miss, as it is volunteer…so I usually try and find a wooded, shady spot, with a lot of ground cover to rest them in.
At least then, if they’re going to recover, they’ll have a fighting chance.
    Anyway…poor creature.

I've noticed that when beetles and insects are dying they can't stay off their back even when they're given help back onto their feet. I hope I turn out to be wrong about the mole, because I know how much you love animals Alex. Can you please give us an update on it if you know what happened?

I love moles! They get a bad name, but if people would stop turning gardens into flat lawns etc they would realise that wildlife has the most right to be here and mole hills are a good sign! (That doesn't include you guys as you both seem to love wildlife too) and wildlife rescues would be the best bet for advice or help. I do like lilly of the valley, but wood anemone and lords and ladies are some of my favourites 😁 I bet it's lovely living there!

Very cool Gazebo nice to have a way to entertain and to work about the farm too. Alex just to let you know: Both lily-of-the-valley and the gloriosa or flame lily are very dangerous to cats and dogs. Lily-of-the-valley contains toxins that cause the heart to beat abnormally. This abnormal heart rhythm can be life-threatening. Other signs of toxicity include vomiting, diarrhea, and weakness.Sep 16, 2021, i found information on Google. I never knew of there toxicity until a neighbor dog had gotten into our garden and had dug up our edging plants lily of the Valley being amongst them. Their dog got terribly ill. I just wanted you to know as you have your cat about and I would never wish any harm to come to your animals. I love how versatile you both are! Great job at finding damp then locating the culprit and making things right as rain again. Take care Ladies you are awesome 👍🏻😎

Merry Christmas, Gail and Alex! Was there something wrong with that mole, or was he trying to convince Alex to make him a house guest. Our cat did exactly that- showed up in the yard, kept rolling over until we brought him inside and fed him, and has stayed for 17 years.

Whatever do you do with an ill mole?? So glad for a new LTD post, in any case. BTW, our treatment for ticks way back was to strike a match, blow it out, then touch the hot head to the tick (wooden matches work best for this, of course). It would always let go. Probably wouldn't be allowed now 😒. Sometimes...

The mole appeared to be neurologically damaged, maybe from ingesting rat poison or perhaps suffering from a spine injury, maybe from being attacked by a cat. The reality of nature isn't always pretty.

We would never use poison. We don’t get moles on our property either so it’s a bit of a mystery, it was almost as if it had been dropped from above 🤔

Looks like a little Niftler. I’m pretty sure Alex is correct, a Hawk or predatory bird swooped it up and dropped the poor thing.

Oh, no, didn't mean to say that YOU poisoned it, but perhaps a neighbor? Anyway, hope it has passed on by now. Hate to see anything suffer.

Your mother should not be up on that ladder. Anyone over forty should not be up on a ladder. If they fall they can fracture bones very easily and it ‘s much harder to recover.

I planted Lilly of the valley…. It’s now to me an invasive weed! I love it when it blooms, but hate pulling it up! Roots run deep.

    • @pauldurkee4764

That's the problem with it, some people who plant it regret it later because it's very invasive, it's probably worth growing in a container sunk into the soil, much the same as mint used to be grown.
