Elwood Kuelgen you should listen to the live version of fat old sun, live at BBC, you'll know it's the right one when you see a black and white pic of Gilmour
The Knark Dight of course pink floyd did that with almost every song they played live, i can say that every live performance by them is better than the studio version
I remember being in my bed with my boyfriend in our first night together and we were listening to your covers, and when we heard this, it felt so magical that we still remember that moment nowadays.
Josh - I've been playing piano since I was 3, but I've never had that laser focus. I switched instruments several times (and hobbies) but I always go back. As a kid I used to figure out songs by ear and make little arrangements, but as I got older, and more discerning, my self criticism became crippling. In 2011 before embarking on a a months long trip abroad I decided to face my biggest fear and host a solo concert. I did an arrangement / mash up of my favorite Pink Floyd songs including this one that was well received. It still took several years for me to take piano seriously (I decided I needed to be in school to practice) so I moved to New York and majored in it. Regrettably about a year before I graduated I became disabled with a chronic illness and I've been recovering ever since. I recently started playing again, albeit only in little bits due to my condition, spurred by a fellow musician's encouragement. I was googling songs to learn and came across your channel. My biggest influences and favorite composers are also Bill Evans, Debussy, and I'm a huge Floyd and Radiohead fan. It might sound like I came here to blab on about myself but ACTUALLY I just felt an impulse to share how connected I feel to your music and taste and touch! Your covers are mesmerizing and deeply personal. I can feel the meditative nature of your playing. Channeling some Kenny Werner zen. And also, those chord changes are to die for. Thanks and can't wait to get through all your videos.
This is one of the greatest covers ever. The meandering beginning and they way you introduce the main theme is so cool. The overhead angle is great because it shows how often you're reaching beyond a full octave. Everything sounds to rounded out! Then at 9:08 is my favorite... when you go back into the verse part it just gets magical. The little runs you're adding are soooo crunchy!!!!! I already hum them in my head while listening to the original version :) Thanks so much for the great content I listen to your videos everyday!
This a perfect performance of a truly mesmerizing song, executed by a true professional and musical prodigy. What a time to be alive and be able to witness such a beautiful piece of art.
I heard this a few months ago and I had a yearning to play piano again after years just concentrating on my guitar. Ive been practising this song nearly every day, and even though I'm not quite at this level I am amazed at how far I've progressed! Which makes me appreciate how good this cover is... I'm not sure if perfect exists but if it does this is about close as one can get. Thanks for sparking my passion again ❤
Us (us, us, us, us) and them (them, them, them, them) And after all we're only ordinary men Me And you (you, you, you) God only knows It's not what we would choose (choose, choose) to do (to do, to do) Forward he cried from the rear And the front rank died And the general sat And the lines on the map Moved from side to side Black (black, black, black) And blue (blue, blue) And who knows which is which and who is who Up (up, up, up, up) And down (down, down, down, down) And in the end it's only round 'n round (round, round, round) Haven't you heard it's a battle of words The poster bearer cried "Listen son", said the man with the gun There's room for you inside "I mean, they're not gonna kill ya So if you give 'em a quick short, sharp, shock They won't do it again. Dig it? I mean he get off lightly, 'cause I would've given him a thrashing I only hit him once! It was only a difference of opinion, but really I mean good manners don't cost nothing do they, eh?" Down (down, down, down, down) And out (out, out, out, out) It can't be helped that there's a lot of it about With (with, with, with), without And who'll deny it's what the fighting's all about? Out of the way It's a busy day I've got things on my mind For the want of the price Of tea and a slice The old man died
The way all the chords are mixed and smoothly you convert the song in a perfect beat is just too much to ask. Like life was all convoluted tangled up and slowly all the knots opens up and at the end it's a smooth rope
Your covers are really amazing ! I hope you will keep making Pink Floyd covers because they are perfect. If I may make a request, maybe "Brain Damage" (+"Eclipse" ?) next ?
I had trouble bridging the prelude into the main piece, but I loved everything from the gradual transition into the normal melody and on from there. One of my favorite covers from you
I come here publicly to apologize. I probably have miss clicked or bumped in the dislike button and for the one year I listen this music it has been a dislike. I DO NOT DISLIKE THIS AT ALL. Thanks for calming me down when my anxiety hits. You are an angel.
Simply impressive to see him navigate between the notes and hear with astonishing beauty how within that chaos the path of us and them that we all know is traced, spectacular, sublime, beyond the ineffable.
I have always loved this. And I am talking back to the old bong days - like way back when the song was new. I believe you have found the center of it - all about the chord progressions. Wonderful to listen to - especially late at night. This was like the last vinyl album on the turntable after almost everyone else had passed out. And it's like a memory that has no right to still be there. Guys of a certain age - can you relate? Someone with the skill - please do a brass version of this! Big majestic chords building with all the harmonics - it could be so wonderful! Even at this length, it seems it could go much longer. Oh, I can hear that glorious sax from the original but it begs for more. This is one of those melodies that builds and builds and never wants to release.
Merci Fabrice.
I literally love this song, not only is a cover from my favorite song of The Dark side of the Moon, it also expands the song with pretty fresh and creative ideas. This song is in my Spotify top 1 listened in this month. Love you man
Epic!!! That was wonderful Josh. Thanks so much for covering this. What an intro, I had goosebumps throughout. You made it your own. Pink Floyd are amazing and you have done another amazing job of a favourite of mine. Thanks again!
I just found you. Brilliant! Im a huge and picky Floyd aficionado and all these pieces deserve quite a few sittings. Just beautiful work. I hope you explore Rogers later works as well
2024 update! New piano tutorials and sheet music coming soon: emergencypianohotline.com
The first time anyone made a pink Floyd song longer than the original.
Elwood Kuelgen you should listen to the live version of fat old sun, live at BBC, you'll know it's the right one when you see a black and white pic of Gilmour
hahaha I gave up after the first 2nins
The Knark Dight of course pink floyd did that with almost every song they played live, i can say that every live performance by them is better than the studio version
First time I see a cover longer than original and I love it
Lol and they would make a song the whole album echoes ish haha
Please get a cover out of every song on Dark Side. The world needs it!
yesssss 😭😭😭😭
Snake Eye a four hour cover of all of Dark Side would be the best
At the very least time.
He did breathe. Would be interested to see how he tackles Eclipse.
Rabbit souri did it
I remember being in my bed with my boyfriend in our first night together and we were listening to your covers, and when we heard this, it felt so magical that we still remember that moment nowadays.
Love how you always start off with improvisation and gradually fade into the piece you're doing so that we have to listen for it. Beautiful!

This just blows me away!!
'Any Colour You Like' is my absolute favourite Pink Floyd Song, and would love it if you covered it!
My ears sends their best regards for you sir.
The word "Talented" is not even close to describe how wonderful you are.
Thank you for the notes
This is haunting ... mesmerizing. I listen to it often. Thank you for sharing your great gift with the world, Josh.

I saw Pink Floyd in concert 4 times. If I got to the concert and found out you were there instead of them, I would not be disappointed.
Pink Floyd's got the highest music level in the art rock world. Nice cover
love how you create the mood first, then build the parts from that.

I wish you rented the studio apartment above me so I was forced to listen to your playing all day! Sublime!
Genie in the bottle: "You have one wish..." ; Me: "Playing the piano like Josh Cohen!"
I heard this a few months ago and I had a yearning to play piano again after years just concentrating on my guitar. When I cannot listen to your fingers, on the Piano, I can still hear you in my head....... Well done.....
This is the best thing that I saw in youtube in years.
I always have the feeling that I'm hearing the birth of each songs that you play. That's wonderful
