The 128 had lower penetration values as the 88mm L/71

@@_________1623 No at 1000m it was 200 mm maximum at 90 degrees. The 88mm Pak 43/3 could penetrate 241 mm at 90 degrees. (Both values are for the APCR greandes Pzgr.40) For the Pzgr. 39 at 1000m at 90 Degrees: 128mm PaK 44: 143 mm; 88mm PaK 43/3: 190mm.

the large mass of the projectile when it hit the tank in 90% of cases guaranteed its failure even without breaking the armor.
