The noise you hear at 16:09 is a shock trooper, a shock trooper is an enemy from opposing force, that has a unique type of communication. The "muh pub mub dit dit" means it is charging at the enemy's position.
12:25 "Gordon Freeman, in the flesh. Or rather in the hazard suit, I took the liberty of relieving you of your weapons. Most of them were government property, as for the suit, I think you've earned it."
Literally I enjoy the first ambience as it makes feel like its there is a storm that is about rain a lot which reminds of 6th grade when it happened at school.
Planet Xen has nice ambience sounds, overall the game has a nice ambience sounds. As for me, I like planet Xen. When I compare it to planet Earth, everything is different, environment, sounds, gravitation, different flora and fauna etc. When we first see the planet, we will find out it seems like the surface of planet Xen to be made up of islands that float within a nebulous void, and falling into this nebulous void means death. On the surface of the island we see flying platforms in the air, columns on which electric circles move, they move from the bottom to the top, when they reach the top, blue smoke forms at the top of the column. There are questions here, how can platforms levitate on their own, what are those columns for? Then we will get inside this island, we find here healing pools, electric lamps and Houndeyes. There are questions here, what is the water in healing pools made of if it can heal a living creature and why does it make sounds? Then there are the lamps that shoot lightning, why are they there, as protection against intruders or as decoration? Inside this island we find a teleportation room here, this room is weird. There are questions here, how this room came to be, why we need those three things to activate the teleport, how they work, and why when we activate the teleport, the room starts to close until it closes? As for the Gonarch's Lair, we will find a Gonarch here, we find out that she is the mother of the Headcrabs, we will fight her so we can move forward, we will eventually defeat her, Gonarch also gives birth to small Headcrabs during the battle, here we will find out how the Headcrabs are birth, grow and change. The next area is an island that has a new kind of Xen Trampoline. We also see the flying platforms here, which we saw when we first saw planet Xen. Alien Aircrafts fly in the sky, who teleport to this area and teleport away again at the end of their journey. There is also a cave on this island, in which there is a trap in one room, when we enter it, it closes and gas is released inside. There are question here, why is there a trap in this room? Then we break some kind of Xen stone and release the pillar. The next area is an island. On this island we will find alarms, if the Alien Grunts notice us, the alarm will go on, Alien Aircraft will fly in and drop the Alien Grunts. If we use the crossbow to kill the Alien Grunts here, we can find out here, for the first time, we can discover that Vortigaunts do not want to attack us that they are merely slaves who obey the Nihilanth and the Alien Controllers who gave them bracelets to keep them under control. We can also find a cave here that contains healing water and a waterfall that supplies water to this cave. This island area is also interesting for one thing, we can choose either a stealth style or a Rambo style. As for the Xen factory, this factory looks interesting. There are questions here, who built this it and how, what all is produce here, how does it work with maintenance, is it automatic or does it have to be taken care of by Vortigaunts, how the healing showers work? It looks like the same healing water is there as in the healing pools. Vortigaunts don't attack us in the first area of the factory because there are no Alien Controllers here and they are devote themselves to their work. We find out that Alien Grunts are being produced here. The next area is similar to when we first saw Xen, but instead of the Xen sky, black sky is visible everywhere. In the distance we see a teleporter that will teleport us to Nihilanth's room. When we stand near the teleporter, we can hear the voices of our fellow scientists. As for the Nihilanth, we will find out what the leader of this race looks like, what his fighting skills are, and what his room looks like. He teleports us to other rooms four times. In one room we can find a scientist without a HEV Suit. There are question here, how did he get here? He probably entered the teleporter and it teleported him to this place or maybe he used Displacer Cannon it teleported him to this place. After defeating Nihilanth, we teleport to G-Man. While he's talking, we teleport to different places on the planet Xen that we can explore. In one area we can see Boids flying. Then we'll fly through space on a tram and we can choose whether to work for G-Man or not. When we enter the teleporter, we accept the job and the credits begin. If we don't enter the teleporter, we won't accept the job and will be teleported back to Xen, G-Man says, well, it looks like we won't be working together. No regrets, Mr. Freeman and the credits begin. At this place Gordon Freeman will die. Since the G-Man took all his weapons and he has to face an army of aliens, that's why he cannot win this battle. Alien Grunt sprites are seen in this area. I've seen a lot of alien planets in games, but Xen has its own charm and is unique in some ways. Half-Life 1 is one of my favorite games, it is all, have a nice day.
you know i like to stargaze in xen sometimes. trying to imagine what things are in they sky, how far away they are, i used to even try and figure out the location of different xen levels based just on the skyboxes alone. seeing little dots like stars but wondering if they are actually distant islands. all while the etherial wind wispers in my ears. i never got why everyone hates xen so much, they say everything super annoying to deal with but i only have issues with that one area where you have jump on top of floating islands and...ships? while being shot at by contollers. theres so many unexplained things in xen i love to speculate about. you would think the gravity is made by the islands but it keeps pulling you down after falling off when you should start to orbit around the island or something. how do those...butterflys? open the portal in the first island you make your way through. there part of an island that trys to trap you in a room and gas you. is that a strange kind of carnivorous plant or is the island alive? in some of the skyboxes you see impossibly large bacteria and...coral? what do those look like up close? is the man-sized cell floating in the area the cascade teleports you to a juvenile stage of some kind? or are they seperate?
Honestly, i played both, but i like hl1 xen more than black mesa one. Yeah the black mesa xen is much more beautiful, but hl1 does what it really should do - being a horror and alien dimension, where we don't understand anything
