- North Texas took an early lead and held off all comeback attempts from Purdue. Javion Hamlet had 24 points and 12 rebounds to power the Mean Green to their first NCAA tournament win in program history. Watch the extended highlights here.

@@draftygalaxy2006 Hey man - they fought back to get it tied, and then just couldn't convert in overtime.. they had the momentum but the experience makes the difference there, and these players will learn from this overtime loss.. they just got outplayed in that 5 or so minutes where it mattered. Great game though and great performance by North Texas!

Wow, the wait this tournament is going, the Big Ten should have tried to cancel the NCAA tournament like they did the football season. Nice job UNT.
I still find it hilarious the Big Ten tried to cancel football season and then proceeded to have it after EVERY OTHER CONFERENCE had said “we’re going to do it with reduced schedules and other things to help people stay safe”.
And then they decided to not allow the bands to actually perform at the games, which I still don’t get, because being a tuba player in the Famous Maroon Band at Mississippi State? We were absolutely fine. There should have been no reason they weren’t allowed, but it’s the Big Ten.
They’re a bunch of idiots anyway.
@@ScallywagBeowulf yep, and then they changed the rules that they set up for player safety once it looked like Ohio State would not have enough games to qualify for the Big Ten championship. And changed more rules once it looked like they would have to have players sitting out in the playoff. I hate Alabama, but I'm so glad they destroyed Ohio State in the playoffs.
@@ScallywagBeowulf say what you want. The Big Ten is the best (strongest) conference in basketball. From top to bottom these teams beat up on each other all season. There are no gimme wins like in every other conference. 9 teams in tourney and 4 teams with top 4 seeds. Big Ten owns college bball. Oh and I despise Ohio state and Michigan
@@howard2031 Yeah, I really don't get the Big Ten this past year and how everything they did even qualified Ohio State for the playoffs. They shouldn't have been allowed to enter the season after a certain date, in my opinion, but here we are.
At least football seems to be looking more normal this next fall, so that's a good sign at least!
@@chrishamre9408 While I don't entirely disagree with you, I would like to point out I'm talking about football, not basketball. Even then, I could make some arguments about the SEC and ACC having some strong teams in basketball as well.

I have been following Purdue for a while over the past few seasons, I knew they weren’t going to win it all or go deep but I didn’t think first round was when they lose. Jaden Ivey’s performance was incredible and I think he showed us a preview of what is to come out of him. Purdue has a bright future. It is unfortunate that the season ended this way. Trevion will probably declare for the NBA draft.

Now in 2023, they lose to a 16 seed Fairleigh Dickinson team that only made the tournament through Merrimack not being eligible. On top of that, FDU already played a First Four game as well. Purdue now is the first team ever to lose to double digit seeds in 3 straight years

As a Purdue fan I have constant disappointment every year. 2018 our best player breaks his arm and we lose to Texas tech . 2019 we almost made the final 4 when some crazy play allowed Virginia to tie and eventually win in ot. 2020 covid happens. 2021 even tho we basically have home court advantage at Lucas oil which is a few hours from west Lafayette but we still get upset first round by a team from conference USA that has never won a game in the ncaa tournament

I can't remember the last time I saw a team make so many difficult clutch shots deep in the shot clock! UNT is a very impressive, sharp, and well coached team -- they can go a ways in this tourney if the shots keep falling for them like tonight. Definitely they should beat Nova. Typical Purdue luck to catch this team on a red hot shooting night.

I agree. Purdue is going to be similar to Virginia of 2019. Everyone back and two top 50 recruits coming in so while this season didn't end as expected, next year should be a really fun year for Boilermaker fans!

Fire painter. He gets credit for elite 8 run, but players get blamed for losses. The PLAYERS made that run, not him. Or, if it was him, then HE has been outcoached every single year except that elite 8 run. He's gene keady with hair. When he has to play good teams away from Mackey, he loses more often than not.

North Texas enjoyed a lead in the first half and then in 2nd half Purdue came roaring back and headed to Overtime and in Overtime North Texas prevailed to upset Purdue by 9

Amazing finishes from williams and ivey. But then they both miss the free throw. Went to overtime and purdue ran out of gas. Focus is so key in win or go home games
Basically, some 22 and 23-year-olds beat some 18 and 19-year-olds. Purdue has a great future ahead of them. Two four-star forwards coming in next year.

I kinda wish they had played this game at home for Purdue (because their court is used in the tournament this year) so they could have lost on their home court, but meh, it’s fine.

@@tejlim1822 Purdue under Matt prater are normally a exit in the first round of 64 or they lose in the sweet 16.
Look at the past two decades of purdue basketball. Losing in the first round is not the norm for them. They have lost in first round like maybe 3 times in that span and that's with like 15 appearances in that time frame. Now trusting Purdue to make a final four or past the sweet 16, that's a different story but not many teams can be trusted to do that every tournament. Next year they will truly be a threat to make a deep run. They return everybody and also add two top 50 recruits next season

Purdue has potential.....unfortunately Painter has been incapable of taking a team to the Final Four....if he couldn’t do it with the Carsen Edwards team...it will never happen. T.Williams may transfer out and I wouldn’t be surprised if Jaden Ivey is not far behind. Painter is a good recruiter and developer of players....just can’t coach worth a lick when the game starts.
