Groomer here! You need to buy a can of cool lube! After a few swipes through the fiber spray the blade down with cool lube. They may be upset because the blades get hot against the skin. Cool lube with cool the blade down and clean the dirt off the blade so you can keep your blades sharper longer!
I have never seen Annie allow anyone to pet her! Unless you had the halter on her. But Jami just was lovin on her & she let her. Jami you have the magic touch when it comes to calming her. Fantastic job.
Kami has such a gebtle touch with the animals. She digs right in and gets the job done! She has adjusted so well to farm life! I really have to give her muchos kudos !
OMG. This was soooooo funny to watch. I was feeling down and stressed from being in isolation then i came across your video. It took away all that stress that is happening in the world and replaced it with a smile and laugh that i just could NOT control. Thank-u for sharing. Look into hiring a shearer. It's worth the money. The alpacas won't get stressed and you will have two fleeces. Alpaca fiber is sold by the ounce. Or you could learn to spin the fiber. It makes very warm clothing.
I have fallen in love with Annie and Ernie. I love Alpacas anyway but your two have kicked it up a notch. Thank you for taking care of them in such an awesome way.

You need a big basket to put the fleece into has you trim, it’s valuable or you could donate to a weaver. I’m sure both Annie and Ernie will feel so much cooler when you’re finished. Good job Jami.

Also, you don’t need to buy new blades every single time. There are sharpeners. Frank Rowe and Son is here in Middletown PA, go on their website and print off the sharpening form (stating how many blades you’re sending) and ship them there. I used to work for them before grooming full time and we got blades sent to us from even Hawaii. They also fix clippers and all that. They’re amazing. I don’t trust anyone else. They’re small business, family owned and they’re just fantastic with even better customer service. Highly recommend. If you do go through them; tell them Liz Bokesh sent you. They’ll treat you like family. 😉
This kinda reminds me of when I use to groom my dogs. My dogs have past on now, but my shih Tzu Laso mix was kinda easy to groom, but his fur was so thick & if I let it get too long, it took a whole day & part of next day to finish to make his fur look good. I took him to the groomer often but in the spring that fur had to come off before warm weather. My next shih Tzu mix was a no go, I gave up and let the groomer cut his fur. I do not want do that anymore, my health won't allow me to anyway but even so I am done with grooming. I love how you guys are so patient with the animals & cutting their fur, Jamie great job done!

If I may make a suggestion, for comfort, safety and less stress try grooming side ties. They cut the time in half. They make it so the animals can't work themselves into a fit, which keeps them from getting stressed out. This in turn makes trimming so much quicker, which the animals don't have much patience for this to begin with. They connect on each side of a halter and are very reasonably priced. They would be in horse supplies. Thanks for sharing with us. Jamie you have a special nack for so many things. Get it girl!😏
Reminds me of when I cut my dogs hair. It didn't look very pretty but at least he wasn't matted. Yeah I was banned from cuttings poor Charlie's hair after that. He was so embarrassed. But he loved his groomer. I love that you just get off the most needed first & then whatever else you can.
Annie may of gotten mad while she was being trimmed, but at the end of the video when she was laying down, she looked like she was very relaxed. So, she was probably feeling pretty good after getting that thick fur off. ❤️❤️❤️
Those boots are called UGGS. It don’t get that cold down in these parts for those boots lined with fur. Only out west and from Dallas and up does it get colder than from Dallas down to coast area.

Hey Lester and Jami! I’m not sure what type of blades you guys use, but you can get two sets of ceramic blades, and switch them out as they start to warm up.
Annie looks half the size. Put a collar on them and tie them to the post so they can't get away while you work. Only about one foot of slack. Put a comb on the clippers and go down the legs. Scissor around the head to round it up. I was a groomer... I hope that helps.
Is that as big as the alpacas get? Never seen one up close. I had a cocker spaniel the same colors as Annie and cut his hair down in summer. It was hard enough for me so I could just imagine tackling them. I definitely understand having to take it in stages! Hello from Alabama!
That is the funniest thing with the haircuts. Either Alpaca's or llamas when they are half done they are funny. What do you do with the cut fiber, sell it or give it to someone to make clothing?

Do you trim their hooves at the same time? They might be going into the water to soften up a sharp point on their hooves. Just a thought.

You may know, the blades get really hot. When I had a poodle I would use an ice cube or wet rag to touch to the blade plate to cool it down.
