Soo funny that kamal hassan in this movie felt as cringe to you. well he is the one has the most nominations for oscars from india as an actor till now. you have to just see one of the video compilation of his so you can understand from all those point of view and the video name is " tribute to kamal hassan the legend" is a birthday compilation of him with sub title which would help you to understand more about him and what he did for indian cinema as a whole. just to give an example he got a national award for best acting at the age of 6. i understand this movie isn't favourite for you and that' fine, not every movie is for everyone.
I think u need to watch the film 4 times, u zoned out during many crucial information and then mentioned I didn't understand this, mainly when the reason was mentioned 2 mins earlier (why Sandhanam was protecting Rudra Pratap). I can understand, why you are not into it. Even I never understood movies like American Psycho.
