I did my first half marathon last year and my best tip is to follow a plan with sufficient time to ramp up. I did a 12 week plan with 3 runs a week and I was able to run a 10k pretty easily when I started. I found it totally manageable to ramp up in that time and if I needed to skip a run or two I totally could. My half was so enjoyable! I had a blast and crushed a sub 2 hour time which was shocking for me.
@@Chope7031 I sort of followed a Runna plan, you can sign up and tell them your goals and they tell you the plan before you pay. So I got the number of runs and distances/ type of run from that. It was an easy run, a tempo run, and a long run every week and they ramped up in distance over time. But I didn't follow these to a tee, I would do Peter Attias 4x4 VO2 max training instead on the tempo days often!
The part of the frozen fruit had me in stitches 😂😂😂 every man obsesses on something that keeps buying and buying continuously. So happy for your goal, this will motivate me to run too!
Hello 😊 I started running at the beginning of the year. It's been 20 years since I last ran due to health issues. Getting back into it is tough. I run for 30 seconds to a minute, then walk a bit and start again. I can manage 10 minutes altogether. But I'll get there, step by step. Happy New Year 🎉❤😊
love your content Ellie and looking forward to following your half marathon journey! i also picked up running last year and hoping to sign up for my first half in October which feels a little terrifying!!😬❤🏃🏼♀
I signed up for a half-marathon for September 2025 (god knows why) and I have no clue where to start, as I’ve never ran more than 5k (in 29.5 minutes). Feeling so lost and don’t know where to start! Can you share some tips and some sort of a training schedule maybe? I have no idea what to do and would love your help girl! ❤❤❤
@ It was my first race (I began training on June) and it was great, there was very nice weather, lots of good energy, a really nice view and only one kilometer around the 14-15th that was uphill although the incline was not that bad. Every 5 km there is water and wc and from the 10th onwards they give bananas and orange wedges. It was pretty good!
@ yes, I run with my earphones and a slim waist but there were people that had running vests. It was pretty well organized. You will love it! Best of luck and if you need anything don’t hesitate to ask 🥰
I guessed correctly! I knew you caught the running bug. 😉 Since you asked for insight, a few words of warning from a decades long runner… Most people start seeing results in their physical appearance when they incorporate a few days a week of running, and still manage to balance it with cross training/lifting in the gym. It’s when people start to prioritize running over lifting, or let their gym workout quality suffer from lack of energy, that they fall victim to the side effects of too much running, including: muscle loss, lowered metabolism from less lean tissue, increased hunger from higher intensity workouts and lack of proper recovery between workouts that can contribute to elevated inflammation and elevated cortisol. Another thing to consider is that running can be rough on your GI system, so even though you are feeling hungrier and probably want to snack more, it’s even more important to try to get most of that food from whole food sources to maintain a healthy gut lining. You may even want to supplement with l-glutamine if it suits you. One of the things I particularly admire about you is your balanced approach to working out, eating well and enjoying yourself. This will serve you if you can maintain that balance throughout your half marathon training program. Just remember, more miles isn’t always better. Balance of workouts, recovery, and nutrition are all equal parts of a successful training program.
Thank you so much for your lovely comment!! that is super helpful. I think because i am a PT/have a degree in Osteopathy I will always prioritise strength training/mobility/rehab etc. Which is SOO important. I see so many people just using running apps now and not training alongside it, which is causing a massive increase in injuries, stress fractures etc. xx
@ I see it too, and it’s hard to intervene when someone falls in love with that runner’s high feeling. I had a foundation of cycling, lifting and focused recovery when I started running and so stayed injury free for years. Eventually though, I dropped cycling and lifting and extended my runs to marathons and ultramarathons and really did a lot of metabolic, hormonal and digestive damage. I love watching your videos that show you lifting because it reminds me just how foundational it is, and how a balanced life and attitude creates beauty and happiness. It would be amazing to have a few lifting videos to follow along to, like a gym session with a “friend.” Upper, lower and full body…or however you usually split it. Wishing you well! 💛
I actually don’t get period pain I just get extreme fatigue it’s crazy. I’d almost wish for pain I know how to push through pain but the debilitating fatigue I just can’t do anything with.
