Greetings from the 51-year-old Bulgarian ARMY. It is a great pleasure to watch someone immerse themselves in the exciting world of BTS. You talked about toxic masculinity and how today's men hide their emotions. I don't know about Asians in general, but these guys in particular won me over with their sincerity and showing of feelings. That takes a lot of courage.

I always find it important to point out that Jungkook was thirteen years old when he moved into the BTS dorms. It's just that kids develop so much between 13 and 15 years old and to think that BTS raised him from the time he was that young. No wonder he says that his personality is a synthesis of the other six.

Also, in Korea, when you were born, you are already considered 1-year-old and then again in their late teens. They had another year to where they're an adult. So Jungkook was 13 when he joined the group in international age.

I will tell you 2 things about us Armys:
    1. we don't mind you pausing the video, in facts we love it in videos like this since that shows you are truly interested in understanding what you are watching.
    2. we love long videos/reactions.
Also, one advice: pay attention to the clips that author put in the video. In them you also find a lot of information. I saw that you talked over them a lot and didn't pay attention. It's always better to pause the video, tell what you want and then continue the video.
One more thing...I don't know if other Armys will agree with me but I think that in the video author should talk about Jungkook's voice the same way he/she talked about voices of other vocalists. It would be nice if it was added how Jungkook have a perfect pitch, how his voice is always stable even while doing the most difficult choreographies or jumping. Author should explain what main vocalist means the same way he/she explained what dance leader/main dancer means. The same way Hobi is helping members with dancing Jungkook is helping members with singing, he is recording guides for BTS songs and for other members's solo songs, he is giving them advices on how to sings and use their voices in the best way.

I'm talking about videos that author added to add informations with it..for example this added video of Jin explaining how he was chosen for BTS at 36:25 - 37:32. Victor didn't pay attention to it at all. And there's a lot more examples like this in his reaction.

Hello, 76-year old Army from Florida, USA. Found BTS four years ago and they changed my life. They brought to me such joy and laughter. Their humility, kindness, respect they show to everyone, their talent and humor is so wonderful and uplifting. Next year Jimin, RM, V, Jungkook, and Suga will return from their military service, and hopefully 2026 there will be a world tour. I want to attend one concert before I am no longer here. If that does not happen It will be rewarding because of their love of each other and how they love Army. Right now things are looking bleak but I always have BTS which is my happy place. Look into their earlier work, TH-cam has so much content, such as dance practices which is excellent to watch. Enjoy the journey. Borahae💜💜💜💜💜💜💜

Helpful hint for the guide: Not sure if you know.... Korean people used to count age differently to others...
Korean Age vs International Age - difference is 1-2 years depending on if their birthday has been.... In most older videos, including this guide, they are giving Korean ages so you will need to adjust.
The members were only 13-18 years old when they joined BTS and 15-20 yo when they debuted.
In Korea when you are born you are considered 1 year old. Then on lunar newyear every year you add another year to your age, no matter what your birthdate is. ....
Year of birth - International age at Debut on 13June13
    Jin 1992 - 20 yo
Suga 1993- 20 yo Suga started with MIDI at 11
    JHope 1994 - 19 yo
RM 1994 - 18 yo RM started rapping at 11 and was well known in the underground scene at 13 and signed with BigHit at 16.
    Jimin 1995 - 17 yo
    V 1995 - 17 yo
JK 1997 - 15 yo he signed with big hit at 13
Rule of thumb - if it's before their birthday - subtract 2 years to get international age. if it's after their birthday - subtract 1 year to get their international age.
The Korean Government has recently (June28 last year) brought in international age as the standard in Korea, but all older videos/ interviews/ shows, will be referencing Korean age.
    💜Have a great day

The “Daesang Awards”in Korea I believe is the equivalent of the “Grammy Awards” in the US.

    • @wingdam1983
      @wingdam1983 4 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

I think the MAMA Award is the equivalent of the Grammy Awards. Daesangs are the top prizes in award shows.

    • @MystiqueRisingSun
      @MystiqueRisingSun 3 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

No, a daesang is simply the "Grand Prize" - those awards that are often followed by "of the Year". So there is Album of the Year, Song of the Year, and Group of the Year.
At the time BTS won all 4 at both award ceremonies, the 4th category was "Worldwide Icon" (a group known well beyond "just" South Korea).
However, I think they may have gotten rid of the Worldwide Icon since K-Pop - in general - has become much more popular worldwide now, don't quote me on that, though, I'm not 100% sure there.
There really is no Grammy equivalent. Each Asian award show is presented by a different entity - like how the U.S. has the BBMA's (Billboard), AMA's (actually created to compete with the Grammy's, and were sales based), Grammy's (determined by a strict set of members in the entertainment business)...and now the iHeartRadio (based on the radio show's most popular tracks, artists, etc.) awards.
The Grammy's are considered the "top awards" in the U.S. - mostly because they've been around the longest. (Personally, I feel the BBMA's, AMA's, AND the iHeartRadio awards are better because they're based on sales/fan votes, not some dodgy "set in their ways" old men in suits!)
      *AHEM* LOL Anyway....
There are DOZENS of quarterly and yearly music award shows in Asia as a whole, and speaking strictly of South Korea? There are still around 6 or 8 different award shows. I don't know if there is any specific one that holds the most...power?...fame?...recognition?...whichever you want to consider it. So, which one Korea regards as the "best" (so-to-speak) is unclear.

@@VictorNightroad I would like to clarify why Jin's not actually a narcissist.
Well from the beginning, out of all the members, he was the only one who had no skills before joining, since he was scouted only because of his looks, so in their earlier career despite being the oldest member he was very shy & bashful, he also became very insecure especially the pressure of expectations because he is the oldest, it was after he made corny dad jokes where he made Army happy & was able to become confident through his jokes about his looks because ARMYs seems to love it when he's trying his best to be confident. Like him giving his signature hand kiss to army only to blush with ears red afterwards.
His role is actually being a good oldest hyung. While being childish to navigate the younger members while mature on serious matters, even RM their leader, asks Jin to sit besides him whenever they're being interviewed in America because even RM is nervous & doesn't like to show it, he always need their oldest to soothe him during nerve wrecking social situations.
They are all quite complex we simply cannot just label them based on one trait.

romanian army here!! i had a feeling you were romanian when i saw your first reaction, glad i was right😄
they are very humble, i like to say they are too humble for their own good tbh. they really came from nothing but worked very hard to reach this place. i would like to recommend you the video "BTS moments for the history books" from the channel boracity magazine, it's an amazing watch and you get more information on their achievements and some personal things.
thank you for showing genuine interest in the guide, it's a lot of information to take in. you had some questions and made some comments while watching and i would love to give you answers to all of them, but it would make this comment the length of a book hahahah
one thing i think would be important to know is that you have to keep in mind that even tho BTS always had more liberties than kpop idols usually get, they are still part of the industry so the members did train for a period of time, depending on the date they joined the label. RM, Suga and J-Hope joined in 2010 in this order, then Jin, Jungkook, V in 2011 in this order and then finally Jimin in 2012, he had the shortest training period. so during their trainee days they had to basically prepare themselves for their debut, by making music, training their vocals, dancing etc. it is not common in kpop to write your own lyrics, which is why BTS is kind of an anomaly, or to have lyrics that adress the issues that BTS talked about from their very first song till now. they literally debuted with a song that had lyrics aimed at the problems within korean society, it was kind of insane at the time (for all the good reasons, the lyrics on that song are amazing). but their goal was to make music in the hopes of helping people. their first years were terrible, low on budged, bullied by the public, show hosts, other artists etc, but they persevered and people started to pay attention to them and their message and it moved people and now they have the biggest fandom in the world.
another good watch is the "BTS Hardships (2021)" from the channel Xceleste and i have to warn you, the things in the video might make you angry. there is also a series of videos called "Karma is an army" on the channel shookga that i really love and i wish more people would check out because you get to see the ways in which BTS were belittled, yet came on top in the end.
    hope you enjoy the rabbithole!!
also, you mentioned the Run BTSxT1 episodes and i have to say those 2 episodes are some of my favourite episodes of Run BTS, but maybe it's just a little too early to see them? you really have to keep up with the subtitles if you watch them ahaha! but i would love for you to watch them still. you can find them on youtube, just search "Run BTS T1" and add eng subs (episodes numbers: 114 and 115 of Run BTS)

Thank you for giving BTS a chance. They've done so much in the world just by being positive and showing genuine empathy and care to people. I think you're reactions are extremely well done and I appreciate that you give commentary and think deeply about what you are watching. I think you are the first reactor (That I've seen) who watched this guide and notice that there was still a member left after V. I'm not sure if you picked up on it but the reason they showed V first was because while he was the next to join the group he wasn't revealed until after the group debut. Jimin was last because even though ARMY knew him before V he was technically the last recruited for the group. I know that's a bit confusing but I figured I'd put it out there. Thanks again for taking the time to watch the Documentary.

I appreciated this reaction a lot, especially the time you took to input some of your own thoughts during it. Don't worry too much about the overly criticism or the nitpicking armys, just enjoy it on your own way and rhythm and the right people will tag along. 💜

Thanks for taking your time to watch the guide! I'll try to give a bit more context to some parts with the little knowledge I have (other Armys, please correct me if anything is wrong, I'm also still learning):
31:25 You're correct, it wasn't that all 7 members were signed at the same time with the intention to form BTS as we know it. If I remember correctly, BigHit planned to form a Hip-Hop group around RM as the main focus. The more members they found, the more the group morphed into the BTS we know. I don't know the exact timeline, but there was a bit of time between each member was signed, there were auditions that were held etc. As the members were signed and before their debut in 2013, there was a trainee phase where they were preparing for the debut by practicing their dancing, singing, and rapping. It was during this training period that J-Hope learned rapping and Jin learned singing and dancing.
41:35 As far as I know, age is the one of the main determinants for hierarchy in social structures in Korea. So even if other members have more expertise in some areas, Jin technically could use his privilege as the eldest to overrule the younger members. But since between all 7 members there is a lot of respect and mutual understanding and because of Jin's personal character, he doesn't use this privilege very often and only steps in if necessary. As you said you're more familiar with Japanese, the honorific -hyung can be seen as the equivalent of -nii/-niichan or aniki.
47:30 In K-Pop groups, there are usually certain roles that are assigned to specific members, often decided by the company/label they're under. So you'd have roles like the leader, who is basically the spokesperson of the group as well as the one who keeps the members in check. The main vocalist is the members with the most parts in the songs and is also usually often the center during live performances. Visuals are usually members with very good looks who are more present in photographs, promotions, etc. During the early years of BTS, those roles were more noticable, but after some time, the lines blurred a lot and Army likes to refer to all of the members as Rappers, Vocalists, Dancers, and Visuals etc, since every single member has gained a lot of skills in each department. The only distinction that's still fitting is the rap-line (RM, Suga, J-Hope) and the vocal-line (JK, Jin, V, Jimin).
59:53 BTS was already promoted by BigHit during their trainee phase before their debut. So the group was already known by fans, but for some reason BigHit decided to only promote 6 of the 7 members and keep one member as a 'surprise addition'. This member was V, so that's why fans didn't know about him until the debut.

I appreciated your reaction and your commentary. I don’t know if it’s been answered but to some of your questions. In a very general sense. Bighit wanted to put together a new group and spent two years looking for the members thru auditions and casting calls and some like Jin was found getting off a bus. They then spend a year or so training in singing and dancing. That’s why they “joined” at different times. Army is passionate. Thank you for giving our boys a chance. Some are too passionate haha. In K-POP, most of then have to be training for A LOT of time, so the company like the person, signed the contract with then, and they be in the company training and waiting for the group that they're gonna be part, rarely they signed like already knowing what they're gonna do. They sometimes trainees for like 7/10 years, like Stray Kids BangChan, but sometimes they can trainee for months and be in the same group, like Jimin for example, the had the shortest time of trainee

J-hope was actually the first to sign a contract with Big Hit Entertainment in 2010, becoming a full-time trainee. He was the third member to join Big Hit Entertainment's group, BTS, at the age of 16.

  • @malvi09jump
    @malvi09jump 4 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

K-pop companies have a system, they recruit people, these people sing a contract with the company and become trainees. The company gives them lessons in different areas like singing, rapping, dancing, acting, how to act in public, etc. They are tested regularly and according to that the company, after months or years, choose the trainees that will form a new group and debut. That's why you see that Namjoon, Yoongi and Hobi (j-hope) entered on 2010, Jin, Jungkook and V on 2011 and Jimin on 2012. In 2013 these 7 boys debuted as BTS in June 13. BigHit at first wanted to debut a hip-hop group but then changed their minds and created an idol group so they added the singers. BTW Jungkook was only 13 years old when he joined BigHit. South Korea had a different system to count age, they add 1 or 2 years to the international age.

They redo some of the Korean songs in Japanese but their original Japanese songs are masterpieces. The vocalists really shine but it's also very impressive that the rapline can rap in other languages. RM and Jimin even rapped a little in Spanish for an online concert once. Things that make ARMYs shriek at 4 a.m. We have also mastered keeping up in two time zones so we don't miss livestreams. 😂

When BTS atributes 50% of their success to ARMY, it means that without ARMY helping listening to their songs, spreading and streaming them, it would’ve being hard to achieve such success. They were from a SMALL company, outside of the big 3 entertainment industry, denied easy access , radios didn’t play their songs. They recognize ARMY’s efforts and give a lot in return. 💜💜💜💜🇧🇷 BTS members love us and we love them.

Thank you for the genuine reaction! The guys were hired by Big Hit to be trainees, along with others that didn't end up in BTS. Their training periods were from 2011 til their debut as BTS on June 13, 2013. Each year in June, they have "FESTA" to celebrate their anniversary. Sometimes they put out a special new song just for ARMY, and in past years there has been a discussion video with all of them and usually a performance/concert of some type. We are all looking forward to June 2025 as that is the month that the last 5 members should be discharged from mandatory military service in South Korea. Jin and J-Hope are the only 2 out, because they started earlier. Jin just put out his first solo Album, called HAPPY (6 songs). J-Hope is working on something(s) since the day after his discharge. We are looking forward to that. Several members JUST won awards at MAMA 2024 even though they are in the military, and Jimin won a Daesang. He wrote a post on Weverse to thank ARMY, and Jung Kook, J-Hope and Jin responded to his post (in a somewhat chaotic way - they are too funny)! Anyway, there are soooo many great BTS songs and I hope you explore the group more first, and then get into some of their solo works. Up until 2022, the 3 rappers were the only ones with solo "albums" (but known as mixtapes then). They ALL had solo songs, but not albums. NOW, with Jin's recent release, ALL members have solo albums. Some have more than one solo album. They are all so different but all so wonderful! I'll provide some recommendations in a future comment (this is too long already....sorry).
OH, Yes, they sing in Japanese and even have Japanese albums. I love Your Eyes Tell, Stay Gold (has an MV), Crystal Snow and Lights (has an MV) to name a few of the Japanese ones. Aside from the Japanese albums and songs, most of their music is in Korean with some English. BTS has 3 all-English songs: Dynamite, Butter, and Permission to Dance. Jung Kook's first/only solo album called GOLDEN is all in English. All the others' albums are a mix of Korean with English.

I’m quickly writing this comment as I watch your video (thanks for it Victor) - towards the end, when fans sang at Wembley for BTS (I was there, but so so far from the stage), I just want to point out - this was at Wembley, in England (English is the first, and for many people, the only language), yet we all sang in Korean (the lyrics were on the screen of course, but we all knew them anyway) - my heart was just so full, it cracked open and all the love just flowed around the stadium - Army was United with BTS in a way I have never felt at another concert - and I have been to many other concerts, but sadly that is the only BTS one - I’ll never forget it though. This will sound melodramatic, and I don’t mean it to be, but the only thing in my life that has had a bigger impact was the death of my Dad, and BTS helped me deal with that. I realise I sound slightly crazy, but this group really helped me through some difficult times and I truly think they are a “force for good” in the world…

You probably are not aware of it but when you were watching Jin’s segment you forgot to pause the video and it seems you missed somethings. Also - very few guides provide much info on Jin.
    1) Jin was street casted. Meaning a staff member saw him getting off a bus and just based on how good looking he was asked him to come to BigHit. Jin did not get accepted only on his looks - he had to pass the audition too.
    2) Jin had no formal training in dance or singing. He was just 18 years old before he even started training and listen to how he sounds now. Jin - along with Jimin - set the standard for the range you hear in their songs.
    3) Jin is also very smart. He was offered early admission from 2 Korean universities. Both have a very low quota system. He also attended in-person at the same time they were training and debuting. In fact- he was unable to attend his own graduation because of a performance. You will often see his intelligence highlighted on Run BTS when there are puzzles to be solved or when creative solutions are needed.
    4) Jin plays piano and guitar.
    5) Jin is very athletic. He is very good at snowboarding and tennis. He also works out and Jungkook has said in the past that Jin inspires him in terms of fitness.
    6) Jungkook joined because of RM but has said that it was Jin that kept him from leaving when the homesickness made him want to quit and go home. Jin also was the one to take Jungkook to and from school.
    7) Jin has a special relationship with the Maknae line (this is the 3 youngest members) and can often be seen either goofing off with them or trying to keep them inline.
I hope you are not offended by this additional info. Despite all the “WWH” stuff, Jin is pretty introverted and does not really put himself forward and this sometimes gets him overlooked.

All the members have done insane good stuff and create good music. Both together and by themselves.
But Jungkook is probably making more the style of music you would like. Plus he's very very famous for his own solo music as well.. especially with Standing next to you (which is the song he also did a remix with Usher). When I first started, I didn’t know where to begin either, but we’ve got you covered haha. I can’t wait for the live performances and solo single. love from brazil

Hello Victor! I enjoyed your reaction today and really appreciate your comments throughout. I personally enjoy watching their MVs and choreography practice videos. I think you might enjoy “Not Today” MV and the in studio dance practice. I watch and listen to a lot of their practice videos of lesser known songs. My favorite lately is “Boyz With Fun” [Practice Record] BTS #2023BTSFESTA. It’s a really fun song and the choreography is amazing.

I watched this video numerous times, mostly by watching others react to it, just because I love how the members keep surprising any new fans. Still, I still get goosebumps when they talk about each other and seeing how much they care. As someone said…Let’s hit it!

We have a saying in the fandom, BTS finds you when you need them the most. 😘💜

TY for your reaction! 60 yr old Army here 😊& you are right…. There’s A LOT we can all learn from these guys & this “band” of brothers. I’ve never seen anything like ‘em! The work ethic, humility, creativity & fan appreciation. They are really open good people in an industry that is brutal. Because of that, Weve watched their successes but we’ve also seen them take a lot of crap. For years, pretty much since they started. Thing is, none of that changed them or their message. How rare is that? That they allow us in to see their process & struggles & overcoming… man, it’s inspiring! No matter how old or where ya come from! They encouraged me thru a hard time & have countless others. I always think, if they can choose to get back up & laugh, so can I! Enjoy the journey!!!! 💜

💜 As I’ve pleasantly come to learn in a short time, your reactions to BTS are very thoughtful and sincere. Thank you for sharing your genuine personality as you do💜
I admire all BTS members although my bias is Suga. Agust D’s song ‘Snooze’ is passionate and lovely and poignant and it captivated me. And so my BTS immersion began😅 I hope you listen to it someday soon!
    Have a beautiful week!!

👋 Hi Weasley Cat... I'm glad he is doing well now... you are a loving owner to care for him... 💜
Both of your cats are so cute.
The big 3 kpop companies are JYP, SM and YG.... BTS came from a tiny company (BigHit).
Pause as often as you like... it shows you are actually taking interest... we don't mind.
I agree with you that there is a lot we can learn from their culture... i know what you mean about learning a bit of humility... but also it is the guys themselves at a level above... even within their own culture they are praised for being great examples to others, especially in the military where they all are doing so well.
They all make songs for soundcloud for us and even their variety show RunBTS is free... they are always thinking of ways to do things for us.
Kim Tae-hyung, V, is a Diamond IV rank player in League of Legends
You are right it has become a movement ... 90 million and counting.
Good luck with your channel... thanks for sharing your journey and thoughts with us.
Welcome to the family... BORAHAE 💜

Totally love to hear your opinions love this Chanel but please don’t forget to pause when you share bc Jin is so important and I’m sure you missed some valuable info by forgetting to pause.
Jin was recruited off the street solely for his looks alone. He could neither sing nor dance and had to work much harder to learn these things. Which gives a deep appreciation of his talents!! 💜🇺🇸

England is a multicultural country... and yet 60k people speaking in probably
10+ languages united to sing the song in Korean.
Music has no boundaries or languages, and BTS is the best proof of that 💜

First of all - your cats are adorable!! I look forward to more visits from them in the future. Thank you for this great reaction. I know it's a long one! Particularly loved how you tried to remember everyones names. Also think your emotions at the end from the Wembley event were a beautiful and honest reaction. I'm sure you are totally overwhelmed by their talents and story right now, but don't worry we will continue to support you on your journey ahead. (FYI - when I was young I had a 1 eyed cat that lost the other eye from a fight it had with another cat. Losing 2 must have been hard but that orange cutie looks happy and spry!)
