  • This is a HEMA Longsword drill consisting of 16 cuts from 4 different directions. Cuts are done with the false edge and true edge. The the footwork is time with the cuts, stepping forwards and backwards.
    The same drill can be applied to other swords such as Sabre and Katana.
    The length of the Longsword is also very similar to the size of the Jo so the same exercise can by also be done but will a full thrust as normally practiced with a staff at the end.

      Trying putting it on slow mo on the youtube settings on the slow mo section, hopefully that would slow it down enough. 😊

    Really cool to see an Aikidoka that's also a HEMA practitioner. Your stuff on the in/anti-spin and isolation is fascinating as well.

      Thankyou Percival, I really appreciate that! Glad you like the videos. HEMA really helped me in terms of translating the method of weapons training to Aikido.

    that movement pattern would make more sense with a Montante. Because of the 180° turn, we always have that with the big swords.

      Yes it would good to use a Montante, unfortunately I don't have one! However, its still a good exercise with the longsword and movements can still be applied with other weapons, such as a staff.

    It's the Meyer square drill??

    • @AlexanderGent
      @AlexanderGent  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Pretty much. So many variations of the drill, this uses the back edge as well.
