the ironic thing is that jackson/charlie are by far the more patient/logical speakers. Kaya and Andrew literally just want to disturb shit whenever they can. Andrew talks out his ass 24/7, Kaya only cares about pedophiles and beheadings, and yet JACKSON gets degraded for his opinions. He's the only one of them who can admit his own bias (other than charlie, who is little more than a statue at this point) whereas Andrew and Kaya think they're entirely right all the time and everybody else is stupid

I think Kaya and the other guys were talking past each other a little bit. From Kaya's perspective, there is a huge difference between "for kids" and "only for kids." Just because adults can and do enjoy things doesn't mean they weren't made for kids.
The other boys take "for kids" as a lazy criticism or excuse for or against a piece of media.

I hate how Pokemon does events, now.
Back then, you got an event item or an event Pokemon and it did shit in the game.
Celebi took you back in time, a mysterious keycard brought you to Darkrai, Arceus creates new life, and now it’s reduced to, “enter this long ass code and hope your internet doesn’t die or else we won’t let you get the code. Oh, by the way, you have to go to GameStop and hope they have cards because we don’t do WiFi events anymore. If we do, it’s usually items no one cares about.”
You don’t even catch event legendaries anymore. They just plop it in your party and flip you off, no enjoyment finding your way through an event map or anything.
Tbh, I've always hated events. And it totally isn't because I had strict parents and couldn't get into the games until 2014 and every event was impossible for me to experience until I got an action replay this month
@@cs82271 events are still lame even when you have access to them. Take pokemon insurgence which is fan game, has all of the legendaries and mythicals available in the world and you have to actually explore to find them and then catch them. Much better than the events.

I could not agree more. So lazy and boring just getting handed all these random shiny legendaries with zero context or interesting in-game mini hunt/puzzle to reach them.

Pokemon being made for children isn't the issue, the issue is the handholding. It's way too easy now, I went from SwSh back to DP and the difference in quality was insane

It's unfortunate that Jackson's yet another person who says that BW were their least favorite games because I genuinely believe that the backlash against those games when they came out is the very thing that led Gamefreak to ultimately stop caring about improving or trying new things.
Also Kaya still seriously lacking in self-awareness I see, basically deeming something not worth being talked about by anyone just because he has no interest in it.

BW weren't the best as classic pokemon games in terms of content (it really had it's own types of things, no safari, no battle frontier, etc) but I love them to death. They're my favorites alongside Platinum and their sequels. Lots of love and content was poured into those games. I think it was great and unique, but I can see where the "haters" come from

So I worked at one of the only mcdonald's in 20 mile radius that would have a working ice cream machine. The machines have to be cleaned every 12 or 24 hours, this process is the machine heating up to kill any bacteria if I remember correctly. You can have the machine clean itself but if you don't do it for so long then it does it automatically. If your McDonald's has a working ice cream machine most the time then you have a half decent crew. My favorite part was loading them up with the bags of ice cream milk.

Pokemon black and white and black and white 2 are by far my favorite pokemon games. I love the soundtrack, the story isn't garbage, I like the new pokemon, the characters, the artstyle, and the post game is great. And I agree that pokemon sword and shield are the worst main line pokemon games, but I do like the look of the actual battles after watching a lot of competitive pokemon, and the soundtrack is also good.

Black 2/White 2 is the most recent main series pokemon game I played (didn't want to buy a 3DS and was happy with my DS Lite cuz of the GBA port) and I really enjoyed the story + everything else and I'm glad sooo many people now are looking back at it and enjoying it more than when it 1st released. Also, they didn't mention in the podcast, when talking about game difficulties, but B2/W2 had an easy mode and a challenge mode you were able to unlock after beating the Elite 4

I worked at a McDonald's, that ice cream machine thing is... Mostly false. At least for my store. The machine is on a cycle, but it cleans at 2am. We can repair our own machine. It only breaks when you fuck up putting it back together during the weekly deep cleaning. I have been to four locations in the franchise and it was the same everywhere

Okay, as someone who (unfortunately) knows the story of SWSH very deeply, they DO NOT throw a parade for you at the beginning. That small crowd was specifically for the Champion. There's also no mention of a "chosen one" as well.

Printers are often sold at a loss, and if I remember correctly the company that repairs MCDs ice cream machines are owned by MCD and therefore is essentially an extra charge to the person who is running the restaurant. Remember MCD is a franchise and you could open one in a few months if you had the capital to do so.

People just didn't like that there were only new Pokemon. They like catching the same Pokemon every game for whatever reason. For me it was amazing. An actual decent story for the first time, and no old Pokemon made it feel like the first game where everything was new.

Almost every generation of pokemon has improved the accessibility of competitive play, but I think the quality of the main playthrough has suffered. I don't think Pokemon needs huge innovation, just consistent improvement.

Strongly agree. Back in gen 3 building a competitive team was an absolute nightmare of endless breeding and Ev training, now you can knock it out in an afternoon. The games themselves suck but the competitive scene is a lot better now

@@celestialowl8865 ... I think the bigger, more fair point, is that things can be made for kids and are OFTEN also enjoyed by adults. Any non-educational media. Think of Voltron, Power Rangers, Marvel, etc. It's all hand-holdy 'magic is friendship' type media and millions of adults around the world buy into these franchises. The problem is, Game Freak thinks that they are ONLY selling games to kids. Kids will think anything is amazing if it's new. They don't have established standards, etc. It's vey hard to get accurate criticism out of a kid that isn't based in momentary frustration, etc.
So when something like, I don't know, Avatar the Last Airbender, a show undoubtedly made for kids appeals so broadly to a wide audience, you have to wonder why that is.
Hint: If something is well made, it will extend so far beyond it's target demographic. Think about Legos, for fuck's sake. Should legos just be shitty too because kids can't tell the difference between a good product and a bad one?

I get threatened by customers multiple times because the machine would be messed up in some way and would cost so much money to get the correct parts, hell almost every tool we need and use on a daily bases is either broken the moment we get them or just never get replaced and get yelled at by higher-ups

i think kaya's "Its for kids" arguement was better than people are giving credit for. Whether you want to accept it or not pokemon fans are getting old and gamefreak are probably going to make things more attractive for children, hence how easy the games are. What's happened with modern pokemon in my mind is more they've immediately changed their demographic they want.

There’s an example in this episode, while not as strong, but he doubles down on Mr Swirl being Australian and with one quick google, he’s immediately proved wrong. This is obviously not as bad, but there are some extreme cases of this in past episodes.

As someone who worked at a certain red office supply store, a printer will no longer function properly if it is not used often. The print head will fail from the lack of use. When you buy a printer look at the specs, it will tell you how many pages you need to print weekly in order for the printer to function properly. It is in fact not the ink that is the issue.
Pokémon black and white is arguably still great. It’s the only Pokémon game that I like to getting into while not being replaced by the sequels. Plus. As being a well told story and characters, the pixel art age like fine wine 🍷
(There’s more reasons why black and white are amazing to me like using themes to tell a story and the unova region. The post game in my opinion has plenty of content to do like the introduction to all Pokémon to gen1 - gen 4 being available to catch, the east side to explore while finding the 7 sages around unova, battle subway challenges, the beef up Pokémon league while finally battle against the champion and so on. I understand that black and white is not for everyone’s cup of tea and the game isn’t flawless but me playing it recently has been a fun experience getting into again)
Don't forget it's amazing soundtrack. Driftveil city theme slams! BW2 were also decent games, gen 5 is where Pokémon peaked for sure

Honestly yeah. Usually, another addition like pokemon crystal, emerald and platinum kept along the same story, but BW2 actually felt like a sequel because it had it's own story 2 years later
Bet y'all never noticed in halo 3 ODST that Virgil points you to each audio log by lighting up signs/tv/police car crashed on side of road/ etcetra. You didn't ever need to look up a guide because Virgil would point you to the next one using the city.
And how the entire game is a huge Dante's inferno callback right down to the fact they say or use an analogy for Hell every 30 seconds

While I personally think X and Y are the weakest entries, sword and shield are just average in general. Last actual great games were black and white alongside their sequels

They are a fun way to play as yourself in the world of cool animals. They aren’t bad. But they are for kids. Avatar the last air bender. I loved it as a kid and I still like it now. It’s good. But saying it’s not deep enough isn’t valid criticism. It was a Nickelodeon show for children but enjoyable for all. Pokémon is the same. I enjoy it but it is for children which can easily excuse any lack of intense gameplay

Speaking about games pointing you where to go, the first time I played Skyrim in 2012, I didn't know a compass existed in game since my old ass tube TV cut it off, so I played without the aid of quest markers.
Yeah, I wasn't super keen on Pokemon getting super easy over the years. I loved the more convenience it did, like giving a prompt when you run out of repels to use another one, but now you get spoonfed easy battles and healing while being told you're special, rather than proving it.
I want them to make a game completely free rain.

@@JayElJay Firstly I'm not even a huge pokemon fan, I've only played 4 Pokemon and one of them was Snap. Secondly content wise Sword and Shield is objectively worse than previous games. There's a noticable downgrade since the games went 3D.

I don't think gamefreak is very good at making games. don't get me wrong they were still enjoyable but I'd be lying to myself if I said black and white was any more so than sword and shield. in my opinion, the og fanebase is starting to finally outgrow the series, and are demanding that the devs cater specifically to them.

He tries really hard to boil things down to "people are crying" and that if someone is remotely invested or interested in something he deems unimportant they should just get over it. If you look at previous episodes he does this about the Olympics, and it's pretty easy to verify that, yes, people DO still care about the Olympics. He seems to let the other bois explain the topic first at least.

I wouldn't consider it pokemon style just rpg. The main selling point of pokemon is the pokemon themselves and what made it unique especially when it first came out. A more accurate example of a pokemon style game would be temtem, monster sanctuary, or the digimon games.

i think it still is kinda valid tho. Whether they like it or not game freak wants to gear the game towards children, hence why they made it so much easier. i think game freak is still not doing enough but alot of the fans are just calling it dogshit for no reason, It is painfully mediocre but its not shit like most say that shit. I think Legends arceus could definitely be the first "Great" pokemon game.
The way I see it, the problem with Pokemon isn't that it's games are shit or aimed at kids. It's the fact that they've shown that they are capable of making games that are much better than their more recent titles.

Pokemon should be more like Persona, without the time management and dating. If they want to make the rivals into friends then at least add some kind of relationship building elements.
Maybe allow defeated gym leaders to be befriended or join your party, like how Brock joined Ash in the anime after he got beaten.
I very much disagree, Persona is pretty much the only turn-based RPG where I don’t mind the party system. I think Pokémon should remain as catching Pokémon and them being your team, as well as it being a more linear adventure as opposed to barraging you with tons of choice.

Digimon really is making a comeback, more in the gamesphere than anime... it's reversed it's role compaired to back in 1999.
the original digimon games are brutal in their difficulty and there's some straight up wrong information in the DW1 playing guide, it was extremely hard to get attached to those early world games.
Nowdays World: next 0rder is very difficult but much more balanced, and digimon cybersleuth & CS: Hackers memory are very complex but beatable if you can figure out a good strategy.
also the fact that the reason they give that it's bad is it's for kids is dumb cuz the previous games were also made for kids but ppl would enjoy them more than S&S. I will definitely enjoy HGSS,ORAS,PLATINUM,BW,BW2 more than S&S even tho those r kids games

I think the reason Pokemon combat feels so boring because theres no interactions between pokemon in your team. Every fight is just down to which moves do the most damage with the correct type, and that shit is super boring. Pokemon should grow to involve more 3v3s or even 6v6s but with more focus on team comp and strategy, and not be insultingly hand holding
They had triple battles in gens 5 and 6 but they hardly appear. They removed them in gen 7 because the game had trouble running them. As a sort of replacement they added a 4 pokemon free for fall but it's not very fun.
