    Highway to Hell is the opening track of AC/DC's 1979 album Highway to Hell.
    The song was written by Angus Young, Malcolm Young and Bon Scott, with Angus Young credited for writing the classic guitar riff. AC/DC had made several studio albums before and were constantly promoting them via a grueling tour schedule, referred to by Angus Young as being on a highway to hell.
    Here’s the TAB: www.dropbox.co...
    Ranked No. 258 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.
    Ranked No. 23 on The Top 500 Heavy Metal Songs of All Time, a book by Martin Popoff.
    The song "Highway to Hell" is part of The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's 500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll list.
    Even Billy Joel and Bruce Springsteen perform the song live on a semi-regular basis!

      Fun to do those once in a while. Rik Emmett said once that's the sort of thing you should do when you're lost or can't think of anything. Good advice! Thanks for watching!

    Great lesson Mark! I was glad to see you did this one because you explain things so well. I'll have to listen to it a bunch and memorize how it goes the best I can. I think Angus is the hardest guy to copy I've seen so far with his unique style. AC/DC and Lynyrd Skynyrd can do amazing things mixing major and minor pentatonic! Two of my fav.s.

      Thanks! It's (relatively) easy to get Angus' notes, but hard to get it to sound right!

    Mark, what pedal did you use for this great sound?

    • @MarkZabel
      @MarkZabel  ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't remember, but probably it was just the amp gain and maybe a little compression because I play in a quiet neighborhood. I try to use as little as possible with AC/DC.

    • @twelthstring
      @twelthstring ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MarkZabel Thanks Mark, but, in that case please tell me which amplifier can produce this overdriven sound at living room level, or have you driven the neighbors to despair despite the compression?”

    Interesting point about your SG..Did you sell it? Just bought one today--AC/DC is the first stop. Thank you for posting, Mark.

    • @MarkZabel
      @MarkZabel  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, I sold it to an owner I thought would take good care of it. It definitely came from a broken home! :) SG's are great guitars. I didn't fall in love with the one I had, but it was a good guitar for sure.

    What string gauge do you use?

    • @MarkZabel
      @MarkZabel  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi. I use either 009, 010 or 011 depending upon the guitar. This one has 009's - probably my slinkiest guitar, because the scale is 25", not 25.5" (Fender scale) which is the scale I usually use 009's with. I use 011's on my Jaguar, which is a 24" scale guitar and 010's on my 24.75" guitars (Gibson scale).
