Richard, I don’t mean to talk out of class in this post, last month you shared several Singer 301 PDF resources. The wiring diagram that you provided was the ONLY resource that could be found across the world to help me CORRECT the error in the wiring that I inherited in my purchase. SINCERELY, THANK YOU SO MUCH! 🥰
I’m a student with basically no money trying to learn how to sew on my ancient Bernina 1008 (I think it’s from the 90’s). The looping and thread breaking have gotten so incredibly bad all of a sudden it’s driving me insane! Thank you for uploading this, it will save me a lot of money.
What an awesome detailed video. I have been working on 2 1005's which are very similar to the 1008 and both have quite a bit of noise in the belt area. Also, one of them every so often forms a couple of large loops under the fabric. At least I now have a clue as to what to look for to fix that issue. Now to take those back apart and do a proper oiling which I hope will help with the noise. Thanks for doing this video on the 1008.
I can't believe that there's a video like this!🎉 I have a Bernina 1008 for more than 20 years now and never dared to open it. Thank you very much 😊 It's going much smoother now. But there is still the problem that the machine doesn't want to start sewing sometimes although the motor howls really in high speed. Do you have an idea, what to do about this? Thank you again and greetings from Germany ❤
I would recommend checking the motor pulley to ensure it’s not a little loose. A slightly loose pulley can allow the motor shaft to spin inside the pulley. Also check the power pulley to ensure both belts are properly adjusted but not to tight.
You know the screw that you remove at 16:11 and say "you're done if you lose this screw?" I didn't lose it, but I did overtighten by a hair and the head snapped off. (I JB welded it back on.) I would like to replace it but have no idea what it's called - can you help? Thank you for this awesome video!!
I am having this exact problem! Thank you for the detailed fix. Can't wait to try the super glue and baking soda trick. Wish I watched the video before I took off the race cover to clean. You mentioned a link for a new race cover, but I don't see it. Thanks again for your great video!
I am glad it helped to get your machine repaired. I forgot to put a lik to the race on the video, thank you for the reminder. Here is a link on Amazon amzn.to/49i0zge
Great video. You are patient and explain things simply. I learned so much about my machine. I broke the lightbulb trying to replace it. Maybe I can get a better angle to pry out the base of the bulb by opening it up. While I'm at it, I can clean and oil my machine. Thank you!
You are very welcome, I would suggest replacing the bulb with an LED. They are brighter, don’t get hot, and are almost unbreakable so you won’t end up with the same problem if you have to replace it in the future.
Great video, thank you! What would you do when the 2 halves of the hand wheel are stuck together and will not turn in separate directions, like you need to do to wind a bobbin? Drench in oil, elbow grease, violence? Would opening the case be helpful?
The first thing I would do is loosen the screw in the silver knob that loosens, if it were tightened in the wrong spot it will lock the silver knob down so it can’t turn. If that didn’t work I would use a rag and channel lock (gently) on the silver knob to get it loose.
This is very helpful Richard. Thank you!

Thank you so much for this video. I am collecting a 1008 next week. I will be able to look after it well now. 👍

I'm watching this and it's quite obvious that you need a mini vacuum cleaner attachment... It will simplify your cleaning regime immeasurably.
I have a 1008 that sews forward then back for a couple then forward again. Then back. It advances but slowly because of the back tracking. Any ideas?
Sounds like you have it on the wrong settings.
