Dead Presidents.
Classic track, it’s been sampled so many times.
Outstanding movie with an amazing soundtrack.
I first heard &saw Isaac Hayes when I was around 12 years old & have never recovered. He was the ultimate man, musician & talent which has never been surpassed. He transported us from our gray Northern English industrial coal mining town into a heaven of sorts🎼🎼🎼💓
The long version off Hot Buttered Soul is the way to go on this track.
As an old school music head, I can not thank you enough for your reactions. Peace.
I'm 25 and looked up the sample for My Mind is Playin tricks on me after hearing it on GTA V about 2 or 3 years ago and it lead me to Isaac Hayes. This is one of my favorite albums ever. Like everyone else said the longer version is incredible. He produced a lot of music for movies too. Also he was the voice of Chef in South Park.
I like Hot Buttered Soul but I LOVE "BLACK MOSES" which I think is his MASTERPIECE! Also check out the STAX/VOLT collection where I think Hayes was one of the writers and producers! That label blew Mowtown out of the water, IMO!
He adds so much to these songs it's crazy. They truly are on a whole other level to the originals
The short version is on The DEAD PRESIDENTS soundtrack. I think ISAAC HAYES was one of the main creators who worked behind the scenes for the STAXX-VOLT record label!
This is the short version. You really need to check out the full 12-minute version from the album.
Deadass!
THIS!
The influence this song had on hip hop is unreal
You reached the Papadon of Soul music. From growing up as a share cropper field hand to a musical master mind. The Issac Hayes catalog is unprecedented.
Yes! It was sampled ..Dead President's movies! I grew up listening to all of Issac Hayes Albums..My mom loved his music!!..She even took me and my sister to see him live at the Apolo Theater in NY. He was a gifted and talented artist. I'm watching Stax Records on HBO Max, which lays out the origin of the artists they produced..Issac Hayes was one of many there represented ☺️🎵🎶
Issac Hayes was phenomenal..He was classic trained..you can tell by his arrangement of this song, he took it and made it his own. This was a Burt Bachrach classic ...sung by Dionne Warwick🎶🎵
I like the way he sat there and listened to the song and appreciated it without stopping and talking like a lot of people do during the reaction videos.
So much history to go through. In order to get the full effect of this song you had to have heard the original Burt Bacharach song sung by Dionne Warwick from the early 60s. Isaac Hayes and David Porter were the principal songwriters for Stax/Volt records. This song has a 12 minute version that will absolutely floor you, along with the 16-minute By The Time I Get to Phoenix. . The Hot, Buttered Soul album started him being called the Black Moses. A couple of years later he came out with Shaft and his legacy was set.
Yes yes yes...the idea of it coming from a strong man had such an emotional impact
Welcome to Hot Buttered Soul young man. Theres more where this came from.
Thanks for the breakdown. This info is priceless.
I've been smitten with Isaac Hayes since I first heard him. This is my favorite! Some soul in this one!
One of the greatest album titles of all time!
This is one bada$$ song...word to Black Moses
It was also sampled by Biggie "The warning"
It’s on the soundtrack for Dead Presidents
Isaac Hayes is so underrated. I had this song and a few others on my list to request.
The whole album is a masterpiece!!! IH was a musical genius!!
I hear "Warning" by Biggie. Sounds like "Southern Fried Intro" from Ludacris in there too. Maybe a lot more rap samples in there that I can't think of off the top of my head
th-cam.com/video/S2S0zu3M0rY/w-d-xo.html
I can't go to sleep, i can't shut my eyes
They shot the father at his mom's building seven times
They shot Malcom in the chest front of his little seeds
Jesse watched as they shot King on the balcony
RZA's best ever verse, in my opinion. Ghostface tears it up as always, but RZA actually hit harder than i've ever heard him
@G Up I can't believe I forgot about that one. Especially for me being from Compton
I hear "Hood Took Me Under" by Compton's Most Wanted.
Of course, Mr Just Jammin', this was written by the great Burt Bacharach and Hal David and Dionne Warwick has a huge hit with it in, I think, 1964. The original by her is phenomenal as well. I had this album by Isaac Hayes. I probably still have it. Thanks again and yeah, it was a hit on the radio.
Wu-tang Clan - I Can't Go To Sleep.
You reacted to it. Same beat featuring Hayes.
Nice pick once again. This track inspired triphop bands like Portishead.
From the first time I heard Isaac Hayes back in the ‘70’s - I went right to the record store to buy his albums, I was hooked 💜 So glad that you are discovering his sound & his genius ! It is best to lie on a couch or bed, turn down the lights & listen to his music and play the long versions !
‘By the Time I Get To Phoenix’ ‘Ike’sRap’ ‘Shaft’Hyperbolicsyllablecsesque’ ! His catalog is amazing 🎉
It was used in 6 Inch Heels-Beyonce
Also it was in Shaft
The Jackson 5 also performed it
Mucho Kudos to you young brother! Back in my day, the early 70's to be exact, Issac, (The Black Moses), was my favorite R&B artist. He came to national acclaim/attention for his Oscar winning soundtrack/score for the iconic motion picture "Shaft". He had been around for years prior writing, producing and performing for "Stax" records and other lesser known record label dating back to the mid 60's. He had a real knack of taking previously released "pop" tunes, rearranging it and turning into something completely different. The tune "The Look of Love" had been written Hal David and recorded by Burt Bacharach and was a pop success. But Ike came along and put those two gentlemen to shame in the way he made the his own. When time permits, look up both versions of "The Look of Love" and you'll understand what I'm talking about.
Much appreciation...stay safe!
"I stand accused"
ISAAC Hayes!
First heard this at the end of Dead Presidents. Isaac Hayes completely flipped this from the original Dionne Warwick version, they sound nothing alike.
This is a cover of the Burt Bacharach song. Dionne Warwick sang it. He totally made it his own
Listen to those drums!!! Oh my goodness!!!
Oh you did reacted to this! Absolutely amazing! 🔥🔥🔥. The longer version is even better!
Black Moses…RIP! It played on Dead Presidents.🙏🏾❤️💐🌈🕊️🎤🎼🎹🎸🎻🎺🥁
If soul was a man it would be Isaac Hayes
Dead Presidents is most likely the movie you remember it in the most.
Straight FIRE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Isaac really put it down. The guitarist from the Barkays was awesome. I love how it changed from heavy guitar, to the organ, and the flute great production!!!!!!
It was on “The Dictator” as well
Definitely an UNSUNG musical genius. He worked with an orchestra as well.
It was sampled by Wu tang clan from the album "The W" the songs called "I can't go to sleep" which also features Isaac himself.
It was first sung by Dionne Warwick in the 1960s
isaac Hayes - Hyperbolicsyllabicsesquedalymistic
The main guitar riff part was actually sampled by MC Eiht (Rather his production team, but you get what I mean) on the song "Hood Took Me Under" while he was on Compton's Most Wanted... Which was actually featured in Radio Los Santos, the 80's/90's rap/hip-hop radio station from GTA San Andreas~
The 12 minute version is definitely the way to go on this 1 ! One of you’re commenters said Hayes wrote it, Hal David Wrote it and Burt Bacharach scored it and original version was Dionne Warwick, 1964. Big hit for her, But Hayes’s version is the bomb ! 1969
David Porter - the masquerade is over
By The Time I Get To Phoenix is another gem ;0 he did some later stuff in the 80s that was fire Can't take my eyes off of you and Thing for you, which had a video, I recall Ron Glass was in it with his sexy self ;0
I grew up listening to this...wow! Memories
The sample you recognize is from a Biggie Smalls song
I don't know if I could even request anything cause you have done so many already!!!🎶🎶🎶
I love this song.
Isaac Hayes was the man with his ICONIC hit "Shaft".... Love this rendition of this hit " Walk On By" and this wasnt one his bigger hits it was a remake....The original was done by Dionne Warwick....i hope you pull up Dionne Warwick's 1964 version where she is in Paris singing this (she was the lady mobstress in that video)....one of the first videos ever made....also Sybil had a MONSTER dance hit with this song in the 80s as did D Train and Slick Rick used lyrics from this song for his rap hit Mona Lisa
Love this. I have the original album with this song on it.
I also have his album with By the time I get to Phoenix.
Masterpieces. Most of his versions of songs are extended.
By the time I get to Phoenix is about 12 minutes long.
Well worth listening to.
great reaction but you gotta listen to the 12:00 min extended version you wont regret it.
Check out "ike's mood" by him. You wont be disappointed.
Not sure if this is the original or if Dionne Warwick sung the original.
it was
Dionne Warwick did the original in 1964....this version was done in the 70s....this song has been remade and sampled so many times....when a song is done over so many times you know its a CLASSIC....Dionne Warwick's original is still my favorite....Hope the 1964 version of Dionne singing this on a rooftop in Paris is reacted to....it is one of the first music videos made at that time
Dionne Warwick was the original singer. Song's words written by Hal David. Music Composed by Burt Bacharach.
@@botrrun9399 Your incomplete sentence doesnt make sense.
Isaac Hayes started he's career co-writing and producing for r&b duo Sam & Dave
Compton's Most Wanted..Hood Took Me Under used this as well.
Beyonce recently sampled it on Lemonade's "6 inch"
That's not a good thing
The ending of this song is exorbitant.
Was it Dead Presidents? It's been a minute since I've watched the movie? And didn't DJ Quick use this as a sample sometime in the 90's? Let me just hit GOOGLE or WHOSAMPLED
MASTERPIECE !
Isaac Hayes - (They Long To Be) Close To You
Four Tops - Still Water
By the Time I Get to Phoenix, one of his best. It was big in the early 70s.
Biggie also sampled it in his song warning.
damn... why they want to stick me for my paper
Check Out: Issac Hayes - Theme from Movie Shaft th-cam.com/video/rYriOuyJU5I/w-d-xo.html One of the Best Instrumentals of the 70's ... Notorious BIG- Warning
Mc Eight- Hood took me under
Mc Eiht " Hood took me under " was the first to sample Isaac Hayes "Walk on by"
The Emotions - So I Can Love You
Tom Brock - I Love you More and More
Isaac Hayes - I Stand Accused
Luther Ingram - If Loving You Is Wrong( I Don't Wanna Be Right)
A group that sampled Issac I think you might enjoy is portishead they are a strange mix of hip hop jazz and lounge called trip hop
It’s from Dead Presidents movie with Lorenz Tate.
Now, this one is my cup of tea... as we say in the U.K..it is indeed hot buttered soul. Have to cold shower after certain tracks on this album.
A great remake from Black Moses
"I just can't help myself
I think about how tight we used to be"
Most famous for the Jay track but Pete Rock also did a mean flip of this on Petestrumentals. Amazing song all around.
Dead presidents for sure. Then I'm pretty sure either MF DOOM or Madlib sampled this too. Can't remember which one cause I'm sleep deprived lol
Dead President soundtrack
PLEASEEEEEEEE do the look of love by Isaac Hayes, please do the long version, it’s mesmerizing
It was both a movie and a wu tang sample
Love ludacris intro of chicken n beer
Check out the extended long version of this. You'll love it even more!
Classic business. Nuff Said. 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Not bad for a song over 50 years old.
Hot buttered soul
You should listen 2 the Dionne Warwick original version 2 reeeally appreciate how cool his version is!
2pac sampled for me against the world
Dinner Warwick did this song....kind of a different mood sound....great song, great music!!!
You really have to hear the album version of that to get any where near the full appreciation.
Try listening to his By The Time I get to Phoenix
Before I even watch this video..Oren Juice Hushpuppy wearin, squirrel trying to get a nut Jones is his theme song???
Hahaha.
Don't say another word ! You win!!
Issac Hayes wrote the original song for Dionne Warrick. He wanted to put his own Hot Buttered Soul touch to it.
You: I haven't heard this before Me: He actually has...wait for it .....
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Unpredictable by Jamie Fox
Best track that's sampled this is Wu Tang's I Can't Go To Sleep. Not even a competition, that shit's raw heat. But anyway, listen to The Stranglers' version of Walk On By. A punk version of a classic track. Best of both worlds
The full version with the five minute outro: th-cam.com/video/5loAY27W5IY/w-d-xo.html
i cant go to sleep- wu tang sample
You might recognize it from GTA San Andreas if you played it
CMW-Hook to me under
Remember he was in the movie .. I gonna get sucka . Too.. 🤣🤣
He was also in Hustle & Flow.
He was the voice of Chef on the South Park cartoon as well
Waiting on Marvin Gaye..."It's Too Late"
Does it ever fuck y'all up sometimes when you hear someone listening to a song sampling this shit, and they have no idea where it comes from?
